I’ve tried to avoid CPAC (Conservative Political Action Conference) to protect what’s left of my sanity. I’ve really tried. I mean, I’ve really tried. Paddy has been posting videos here and there, like the ones of Allen West and Louis Gohmert, but I couldn’t bring myself to watch them.
Instead, I took a deep breath and watched this:
Thank you, Talking Points Memo. I owe you my mental health. If only those at CPAC still had theirs.
But just when I thought I was safe, Benjy Sarlin noticed that Rick Perry got a smattering of boos (it’s hard to hear, but they’re there) when he uttered the words “growing Hispanic demographic.” I couldn’t resist clipping that part out for all to see.
Those whacky, zany, outreachy, reinvented Republicans, they sure have changed!
“Now, the popular media narrative is that this country has shifted away from conservative ideals, as evidenced by the last two presidential elections. That’s what they think, that’s what they say. That might be true if Republicans had actually nominated conservative candidates in 2008 and 2012. Might be true. But now we are told our party must shift appeal to the growing Hispanic demographic.”
