Editorial standards
These standards apply to every explainer, hub and tool on The Political Carnival.
Nonpartisan by method
We do not endorse candidates or parties. When an issue is contested, we present the strongest version of each position, in language its supporters would accept, and we separate what is known from what is argued.
Sources
Factual claims are backed by primary sources wherever possible: legislation and votes on Congress.gov, election results from state election offices and the FEC, population data from the Census Bureau, court opinions, and polling from established pollsters. Each explainer lists its sources at the end.
Review and corrections
Every explainer shows a “last reviewed” date. We re-check pages when the underlying facts change, for example after an election or a Supreme Court ruling. Corrections are noted on the page with the date of the change.
Humor
Jokes are about institutions, procedures and the absurdities of politics. We do not mock voters, and humor never replaces a fact.
How the Media Bias Chart is made
Each outlet is rated on two axes: political lean (from left to right) and reliability (how consistently it reports verifiable facts and corrects errors). The full method is published on the chart page.
