ClickOrlando is reporting that George Zimmerman has been taken into custody in Central Florida. Apparently there was an incident (allgedly) involving a gun with another person at his ex-in-law's home (allegedly). I say "ex" because Georgie's wife has left him and filed for divorce (not allegedly).
The story is that he got into an altercation (allegedly) with some still-unknown someone, and the police are still trying to figure out what exactly happened.
Zimmerman just can't seem to stay out of trouble. He's already been stopped twice for traffic violations, and now this. What a fine, upstanding, law-abiding guy.
UPDATE via ABC:
Zimmerman is being held at the home of a relative after the incident, which involved Shellie Zimmerman and her father Colin Morgan, police in Lake Mary, Fla., told ABC News.
"There was some kind of a domestic, we know that with his wife and father-in-law. Apparently there were some weapons involved and threats," the deputy police chief in Lake Mary told ABC News.
He was taken into investigative detention to determine whether there is cause to arrest him.
More, via Lalo Alcaraz on Twitter:
Her attorney told ABC News that George pulled a knife on her today after she discovered a firearm in the house they shared. He then pulled a gun on her and her father after a verbal altercation went bad, according to attorney Kelly Sims. @ABC
More from ClickOrlando:
"He’s in his car and he continually has his hand on his gun and he keeps saying 'step closer' and he’s just threatening all of us," Shellie Zimmerman said in the 911 call, adding that George Zimmerman was "trying to shut the garage door" on her.
"He punched my dad in the nose my dad has a mark on the nose. I saw his glasses were on the floor," Shellie Zimmerman said in the call. He then accosted my father then took my iPad out of my hands. He then smashed it and cut it with a pocketknife, and there is a Lake Mary city worker across the street that I believe saw all of it." ...
"I don’t know what he’s capable of," Shellie Zimmerman said in the call. "I’m really scared."
Shellie Zimmerman also told her dad to "get behind the car or something-I don't know if he's going to start shooting at us or something" and worried that her dad was ill, saying he "feels like he's going to have a heart attack."
Zimmerman is "no longer in investigative detention," according to police, but they did take his gun, per Martin Bashir on MSNBC.
Here is audio of Shellie's 911 call.
UPDATE: The AP is reporting that Zimmerman and his wife accused each other of being the aggressor at her father's Florida house, police say. And per a Twitter pal, Zimmerman's brother is already out there demanding that we don't jump to conclusions.
Police Chief Steve Bracknell: “They both have declined to press charges against George Zimmerman. We have no victim, no crime.” However, the state attorney must determine whether to file charges.
And per Think Progress: Under Florida law, Zimmerman’s alleged actions likely amount to “aggravated assault,” a third degree felony punishable by up to five years in prison. Additionally, if Zimmerman is convicted of this felony, he would be legally barred from owning a gun.
