AUDIO: Romney's version of meeting Navy SEAL killed in Benghazi disputed by best friend, mother: "Pathetic & comical"

The above video shows a very self-serving Mitt Romney at a campaign stop talking about former Navy SEAL Glen Doherty. He said he met Doherty at at a holiday party a few years ago. Doherty was killed during the September 11th attack on the American consulate in Benghazi.

Nothing like using a Navy SEAL's death for political gain, Willard. Exploit people much?

Just add this to Romney's endless and growing list of lies.

Especially because others remember Doherty's impression of meeting Mitt much differently, including a close friend and Doherty's own mother. Via, listen:

Elf Ellefsen, his best friend:

"A guy living life wise beyond his years. Always trying to be progressive as well as do the right thing. Always challenging himself to his greatest ability."

"He said it was very comical. Mitt Romney approached him ultimately four times, using this private gathering as a political venture to further his image. He kept introducing himself as Mitt Romney, a political figure. The same introduction, the same opening line. Glen believed it to be very insincere and stale."

"He said it was pathetic and comical to have the same person come up to you within only a half hour, have this person reintroduce himself to you, having absolutely no idea whatsoever that he just did this 20 minutes ago, and did not even recognize Glen's face."

"...This guy is using our great friend, our humble, and honorable great friend... He has become part of the soapbox routine for politics in a presidential race."

"Honestly it does make me sick. ... Glen would feel, more than anything, almost embarrassed for Romney. I think he would feel pity for him."

Romney will do or say anything to get elected. It can't get any clearer than this. Oh wait. yes it can:  Doherty's mother Barbara on Boston television station WHDH-TV:

"I don't trust Romney. He shouldn't make my son's death part of his political agenda. It's wrong to use these brave young men, who wanted freedom for all, to degrade Obama."

She has it absolutely right, it's about trust:

UPDATE: Team Romney is busted:

Asked whether Romney would continue to tell the story, a campaign aide told BuzzFeed he would not, now that he knew the mother's wishes.

Kevin Madden added, "Governor Romney was inspired by the memory of meeting Glen Doherty and shared his story and that memory. We respect the wishes of Mrs. Doherty though."

  • Romney is a phony user. He couldn't remember Glenn's name, yet had no trouble exploiting him after he died.

  • Like most of the crap generated by left wing bloggers this story is absolute crap.  It did not occur in this way and the author of it knows it.  The truth is Glenns mother did not want romney using her sons name because she is not a Romney supporter.  Romney Graciously has removed all mentions of his meeting with her son from his future speeches.  He was genuinely saddened to learn of this mans death as any of us would be.

  • I will bet Ten Thousand Dollars that he fabricated the whole damn story about meeting this courageous young man, like GWB did with distorting the truth about Jessica Lynch and Bill Tillman to score political points.  They are all a bunch of low life Charlatans who would use anything to get over on voters. Ask Bill Tillman's family what they think of Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld. Despicable!

  •  So, you believe in the fallacy of the lesser of two evils?
That's a very principled stance you've got there.

  • this guy s fucken shameless, another one that ran from the vietnam war, has the balls to include a dead military person, and lie about it.

  • 2eyes2see

Mitt lies because he knows there is no accountability for doing so.  He has lied about all his major campaign positions.  If elected his true loyalties to the corporations and the rich (and of course first and foremost his own bottom line) will be abundantly clear.  The poor and middle class will bear the burden of his policies and their naivety, perhaps in time they won't be so easily swayed by Fox news' demonization of those less fortunate, and misdirection of the blame.

Please do yourself a favor and check out the fact checkers and vote for the candidate that lies the least. (hey, they're politicians for gosh sake).

  • Mitt is becoming more & more pathetic in his desperation...
