Cain wins Florida straw poll, Perry comes in second, and Bachmann…. last.

Via USA Today:

Cain carried 37% of the vote, Perry 15% and former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney 14%. Former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum was at 11%, Texas Rep. Ron Paul at 10% and former House speaker Newt Gingrich at 9%. Trailing far behind were former Utah governor Jon Huntsman and Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, at 2%.

That’s right, Perry blew it again, and Bachmann was right down there with Jon Huntsman.

Two words:

Um. I don’t recall many conservatives referring to Obama as “white and black” either. In fact, some just skipped straight to “Kenyan”, “Muslim”, “Indonesian” and “racist towards whites”.

    “Schick”?

  • Mac

Ladymayor, you may wish Republicans didn’t give a rat’s behind about Herman Cain but you’re wrong.  He’s most impressive.  His skin color doesn’t matter because his policies are impressive.  It is the libs who are racist through and through. obama is white and black, not black as they always refer to him.

    I’m with you, Luci!

  • KansasDem

I didn’t think it necessary to say, but all the reports I’ve seen are basically saying that Perry lost because of his position on immigration of brown people …………….. that hatred ;^)

How dare he suggest that educating children is a good thing, or that building a wall along our southern border is a stupid idea?

But in my experience who or what the GOP hates is totally interchangeable. Reagan had a field day with welfare queens, now it’s unions, public employees, undocumented immigrants, etc, etc.

  • HarborGuy

Thank you Laffy…you said it all for me as well.

Super duper ditto to your “This is a Florida straw poll, NOT a national race or a national poll conducted by a NEUTRAL organization.”

    Polls…where figures lie…and liars figure.

  • HarborGuy

Well…it most certainly is a negative message.

    Women’s productive rights…under attack.

    Gay and Lesbian…under attack.

    Various people of color…under attack.

The safety net of Social Security (by the way, which I and my employer pay into, ONLY…no other government dollars support this program)…under attack.

    Medicare…under attack.

Everything in America, is wrong for these new GOPBagger types…always depressing…always negative.

Where is the positive message? No taxes for the most wealthy…guns, guns, guns…war, war, war…do away with environmental protections (cough, cough), do away with amendments to the Constitution…and on and on.

I’ll stick with America the way she is now.

Hey Gotta. You make some excellent points. I was just comparing Herman Cain to Senator Obama in 2008 and noticing the similarity. No I do not think he will win. But, it was pretty cool that he beat Perry and Romney in the straw poll. It was very funny to me and I got a good laugh out of it.

  • http://thepoliticalcarnival.net/ GottaLaff

Oh, and there’s this, from a Twitter friend who read your comments: Every article says Cain won Florida because Perry was weak in the debate. In other words it was not due to Cain’s strength. He will not, cannot win.

  • http://thepoliticalcarnival.net/ GottaLaff

West isn’t running for president.Cain is running for president and has no experience at all, and he is a right wing extremist. He has to appeal to the more moderate voters as well as conservatives who are not particularly, well, inclusive. This is a Florida straw poll, not a national race or a national poll conducted by a neutral organization.I never said the GOP didn’t support ANY African Americans, I said “many Republicans.” It’s doubtful that conservatives, nationally, would vote for him for president of the United States.Nice try.

  • Sillykeysgirl

Yeah – That’s why Cain beat the  #2 guy by a two-to-one margin – because Republicans don’t give blacks the time of day.

Ever hear of Alan West?  You’re gonna have to come up with a new schick pretty soon.

  • Ladymayor

    Who’s the hater here?

  • http://thepoliticalcarnival.net/ GottaLaff

Cain being black, many Repubs won’t give him the time of day. He may have a few surprise wins here and there, but I can’t imagine conservatives embracing him.

Remember when President Obama was not polling well untill after he started to win. I think Herman Caine bears watching. I think everybody counted Senator Obama out of the game, except those of us who believed in him Then came Iowa. Yhen Hillary had to drip some tears in New Hampsire to win.

Like Obama in 2008, Herman Cain has been little noticed.. But he can say to Rick Perry, ” Do you see me now?”. Ha!

  • Chris

I need to catch up.  Who the hell is Cain?

  • HarborGuy

Absolutely! I’ve been saying the same thing for years.

It’s all about HATE for the GOP.

To me, it’s like most organized religion…they MUST have someone to hate, so they can instill fear, to control the “flock”.

    The Pizza Man? Oh please…

What losers, must there be in these “polls”? I need to see some serious polling data, ’cause this can NOT be representative of America.

President Pizza of the United States of America?

    Please….

  • KansasDem

Republicans are an odd bunch, the one thing I know about them is they love to hate.

What they decide to hate may change from time to time, but they absolutely love to hate something or someone all the time.

    They thrive on hatred!
