U.S. Suspends Millions in Pakistani Military Aid

I'm hoping they now know where the Pakistani nuke stockpile is and are keeping an eagle eye on them 'cause that was one of the stated reasons for not doing this.

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration is suspending and, in some cases, canceling hundreds of millions of dollars of aid to the Pakistani military, in a move to chasten Pakistan for expelling American military trainers and to press its army to fight militants more effectively.

Coupled with a statement from the top American military officer last week linking Pakistan’s military spy agency to the recent murder of a Pakistani journalist, the halting or withdrawal of military equipment and other aid to Pakistan illustrates the depth of the debate inside the Obama administration over how to change the behavior of one of its key counterterrorism partners.

Altogether, about $800 million in military aid and equipment, or over one-third of the more than $2 billion in annual American security assistance to Pakistan, could be affected, three senior United States officials said.

(snip)

American officials say they would probably resume equipment deliveries and aid if relations improve and Pakistan pursues terrorists more aggressively. The cutoffs do not affect any immediate deliveries of military sales to Pakistan, like F-16 fighter jets, or nonmilitary aid, the officials said.

this has got to be the worst analysis.... didn't you read the news in December 2001? OBL was dead by that time. Also pakistan has always been used as a punching bag. the problem is that the pakistani leadership is nothing but House Niggers as described by Malcolm X. It's all a ruse. Pakistan caught the US red handed in the person Raymond Davis who was both a Xe employee as well as CIA station chief AND possessed fake papers. The US is the perpetrator of terror. There are no real targets to speak of except for the ones that the US and its real ally, India create. This is nothing but a plan to get rid of Pakistani nukes (not Israeli nukes, not Indian nukes) and if Pakistan is destroyed in the process then all the better, and what happens in the meanwhile? The Islamophobes can say that Islam is the source of terror all they want.

US: "Waaaah!  You aren't playing like we said!"  Pakistan: thumbs her nose and says, "I
don't have to do it like you said, I'm a separate entity."  US: "But I am the leader of the
world!  That's it, I'm taking my toys and
    GOING HOME!"  ;-)

My guess is that this was planned before the Bin Laden capture. Note Panetta's latest statement about the "end of Al-Qaeda". Statements like that are often a hint that they think they can get close.

Pakistan got caught with their pants down with Bin Laden. With India on one side and diminished support from the US, they have a tough decision - crack down on terror suspects, or go it alone. Meanwhile, the precedent has already been established that the US will go into Pakistan - under cover of night if necessary - to go after targets. If the intelligence is there again, you can be fairly certain that the US will send forces again. Pakistan would then have to respond as to why they had not gone after a suspect AGAIN, and their acting indignant would ring hollow.

Pakistan has allowed the situation to get to this point by aiding terror suspects, either through failure to act or active participation. They have been a dubious ally. This has been a long time coming.
