“Loonbucket” (a term of not-endearment by his own daughter) Terry Jones has done something immensely stupid. He went ahead with plans to burn (“execute”) the Quran in order to “stop Islam,” and as a result, violence has broken out in Afghanistan.

So there you have it, he’s accomplished his goals. Angering a people to the point of deadly violence, ending lives, those were the fruits of his grand little gesture. Be proud, Pastor Lunatic. You’ve just endangered more lives, including American ones.

Gen. David Petraeus and Defense Secretary Robert Gates both warned him against doing this. Via Think Progress:

Fifteen people were killed this morning in Kabul, including ten United Nations workers, when residents enraged at Jones’ act stormed a U.N. office:

Protesters angered by the burning of a Koran by a fringe American pastor in Florida mobbed offices of the United Nations in northern Afghanistan on Friday, killing ten foreign staff members and beheading two of the victims, according to an Afghan police spokesman. Five Afghans were also killed.

The attack began when hundreds of demonstrators, some of them armed, poured out of mosques after Friday Prayer and headed to the headquarters of the United Nations in the northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif.

One Afghan official said “several hundred demonstrators were peacefully protesting the purported burning when the gathering suddenly turned violent.” This unfortunate but predictable violence is exactly what Petraeus, Gates, and others warned about.

As Think Progress notes, several on the far right bashed Petraeus for daring to issue those warnings.

Of course, it is highly unlikely the media will mention that little fact. It’s much too relevant.

UPDATE:

Eight workers for the U.N. and four Afghans were killed, said Abdul Rauof Taj, security director of Bulkh province. At least 24 people were injured, he said.

You are a damn fool, just a damn fool. If you had any education on the Muslim or anything that has to do with the Quran you would understand. It’s not siding with anyone, its the fact that if you are not Muslim you can not even touch the Quran. So burning the Quran to prove a point is far beyond idiotic. This man has no sense in his brain, and is obviously uneducated. But it’s ok. You people can say what you will and do what you will, and you are still able to wake up the next morning have your coffee, see your family, and drive to work safely. While I am over here doing the REAL job and cleaning up YOUR messes. So thank you for your actions, I really do appreciate it, its cool to watch my brothers and sisters die because of you ignorance. I already have lost 3 due to this bullshit. So no YOU NEED TO WAKE UP! Damn fools

  • Gtdirtjump71882003

the fact that you write this much, defending terry jones shows how ignorant you are. Muslims base their entire life around the quran. Much more so than any other book or anything similar to a symbol that we have here in America. So when the media shows a dumbass who wants to burn the quran because he thinks it says to kill christians…..which is not true btw, it says not to kill people of the book. like its stated earlier on this page, some muslims interpret this as those who dont believe in the quran, some dont. Anyway, because of this guy’s pride, stupidity, and blind boldness, he has put all americans, or even non-muslim believers, in even more risk than before. Now, not only do muslims who interpret the quran to kill christians want to kill christians, even those muslims who didnt neccesarily interpret the quran that way…..now because of jones’ idiocracy he has upset all muslims in the middle east because they believe in it……he burns a book, one day, and the daily avg. of american deaths go up. 1+1 still = 2 right? cause and effect, lets take it back to junior high political science.

  • Anon

he might be a idiot but he didnt kill 10 people. RELIGION did!!!!

  • Cynic

In fairness, if a culture/religion/cult thinks its OK to murder people because some idiot burned a book, then they are just plain dangerous.

I wish I didn’t have have to share a planet with either group of morons.

  • Infidel

Wow, you removed all my comments. Well, in a truly muslim manner i’d say. Shut up the opposition. That is the left’s strategy. You are pathetic, and your opinions are childish. Good Bye

  • http://thepoliticalcarnival.net/ GottaLaff

You have a very odd way of processing info. Fool? I was trying to fool
    somebody?

As for lack of originality, you’d have minimal credibility about that if
you’d stop using tired, nasty talking points.

We’re done here. Read our guidelines. No baiting. That’s your only warning.

  • Infidel

Hmm, your lack of originality clearly fools nobody.

  • http://thepoliticalcarnival.net/ GottaLaff

Your own immaturity and naivete must have fooled me.

  • Infidel

To think I am Republican just because I am against liberals is naive and immature.

  • Infidel

Ok. Who are the peaceful muslims? Where are they when stuff like this happens? I haven’t heard one denounce the killings, only the burning. Oh, I remember a peaceful muslim by the name of Muzzammil Hassan. He was one of you guys, saying that all muslims are crucified for the sins of a few. He later beheaded his wife in true Islamic fashion…
And you compare muslim extremism to christian extremism. Yes, I agree both religions have moderates and extremists. But the difference is, Timothy McVeigh is rotting right now. He was put on trial, and sentenced to death. Pretty much everyone in this country denounced his actions, and any organization he was affiliated to immediately apologized and vilified him. If there were so many moderate muslims, then maybe the middle east wouldn’t be riddled with extremism. Moderate muslims are just apathetic to extremists, and accept their “help”. Yeah, America might have it’s extremists (Jared Loughner, McVeigh, the weatherman underground) but we NEVER allowed them to take over this country. That is the difference.

  • http://thepoliticalcarnival.net/ GottaLaff

I don’t recall suggesting he go to trial. Next.

Oh, and as far as “caring about the troops”, you might remind your own party
    about that:

    http://thecable.foreignpolicy.com/posts/2011/04/05/government_shutdown_would_mean_soldiers_stop_getting_paid

  • Infidel

No, he shouldn’t be put on trial. I don’t care how dumb this guy is, ALL he did was burn a book. Although this looks like a change in the opinions of Afghans and Iraqis towards the American soldiers, it is more of an exposure. If these people actually kill because a book was burned, then we will NEVER succeed our mission in Afghanistan and Iraq. If we just shut our mouths and treated Islam with respect (which we OBVIOUSLY don’t get in return), they would react the same ways. They would maintain the same line of thought, and would succeed at silencing America. Do you want that? To be silenced? What we should really do to protect the troops is change the ROEs (Rules of Engagement) to ANY suspicion of having a weapon or a bomb will be met with deadly force. Applies to women and children. Haha you liberals wouldn’t like that, but it’s not like you care about the troops…

  • http://thepoliticalcarnival.net/ GottaLaff

We side with peaceful Muslims who shouldn’t be lumped in with extremists,
any more than most Christians shouldn’t be lumped in with white supremacist
groups or people like Tim McVeigh.

Jones caused passionate anger and resentment and was warned by his own
government to give up on his idiotic stunts. Not the brightest bulb.

  • Infidel

If you people actually think Terry Jones caused any murders….wow. These muslims were just looking for an excuse to protest and kill some “infidels”. Remember when the pastor SAID he would burn the quran on the 9/11 anniversary? He didn’t, but guess what happened anyway. Protests. Or remember the Danish cartoon controversy? A man was killed because he chose to exercise his right to freedom of speech, and creativity. But they are peaceful!! Only a few are extremist! Really? I saw a LOT of muslims protesting the Danish cartoons, and the quran burning. And if they aren’t extremist, they definitely are enablers. Extremist christians are truly condemned by moderate christians, and in this country, any terrorist (of any religion or ideology) is put in jail. You people need to wake up, stop being so politically correct and see what the true problem is here. Regardless of how dumb you think Terry Jones is, we are dealing with people who killed 12 UN workers based on the fact that someone on the other side of the world burned a book. I can’t believe you side with the muslims.

  • jensa

Next time, hope he’s more courageous and goes to Afghanistan with a Koran and a box of matches..

  • jensa

This man is no better than the fundamentalists he’s trying to offend. He is one himself and oblivious to that fact. Retard.

  • Tracepetro

I thought being a Christian was about love. Well… where is the love there Terry? You are ignorant and your followers are nothing more than another Hari Christna or Jim Jones movement. All i can say is… don’t drink the Kool aid .. the good pastor might be looking at mass suicide next!

  • Tracepetro

    Terry Jones is an idiot!

  • http://twitter.com/sandinbrick Sandy Dover

The First Amendment is really being abused by hatriots that pose as Christians. He should be arrested for endangering our Troops. He was warned, but he did not listen. That the problem I have with Fake Christians and their Tax Exempt status.

  • Sand79jack

He thought this will get him some spotlight, but all it did was make this unbearable war worse for the men and woman stuck there. Wars are bloody, and as much as I wish we should leave the mideast, this man should be brought up on charges for endangering the lives of the Troops. He just another phoney Christian. Shame on him!

  • gainesMI

This pile of excrement is supposed to be protesting in Dearborn April 22. Perhaps the city will have a cleansing ceremony once he leaves!

  • http://primaldata.blogspot.com/ PRIMALDATA

Hey how can you cry foul against a “violent and uncooperative” religion if they aren’t acting in a violent way. Has this not been the card they play EVERY time something they do for their own selfish pleasures goes wrong, “why are they hitting us, we just expressed ourselves in a manner which we thought was okay and they warned that they felt was inappropriate, but hey what about our first amendment rights”. Again you can say or do what you want, then get ready because it’s the next persons turn, and just like they couldn’t control what you did you can’t control what they do.
