"It's Arm the Rebels o'clock. Do you know where your Senator John McCain is?"

john mccain arm rebels

How many times have we been subjected to John McCain's myopic rants about arming the rebels in any given civil war or in any given area of conflict?

Rachel Maddow:

It's Arm the Rebels o'clock. Do you know where your Senator John McCain is?

Per McCain, it really doesn't matter much where or who they are, if they're rebels, just arm them. Especially if President Obama is taking a more measured approach. Grampy McDrumbeat is just itching to hand over lethal weapons of war to someone, anyone, because if fits into his whole Bomb Bomb Bomb, Bomb Bomb [insert country here] mentality: the more explosions the better. Especially if we aid and abet some of them. Blow 'em up! Kill [insert bad guys' name here]! What a blast! (Pun intended.)

weeee smaller

There's just one problem with that mania, Senator McDrumbeat. It can backfire.

Take Guatemala, for example. Via the Los Angeles Times:

Perez Molina said the violence and crime in Guatemala were a byproduct of the Cold War when the U.S. and the Soviet Union were funding opposite sides of civil wars in Central America to gain influence.

Perez Molina was a top intelligence officer in the Guatemalan military in the 1980s and ’90s.

Moral of the story: Don't listen to John McCain.

Real moral of the story: A more rational, measured approach is most often very wise and can save lives.

Other moral of the story: The road to more violence and crime is paved with shortsighted intentions.

Immoral of the story: Stop treating horribly abused child refugees like criminals.

In related news, there was an L.A. Times letter to the editor that is worth a share. I'd link to it, but I can't find it on the Times site, so I'm transcribing it verbatim:

Re: "Texas to send Guard troops to border," July 22

I hear echoes of Kent State University. What are the National Guard troops to do to these migrant children in Texas: shoot them?

Pat Mauer, Pasadena

What is it with Republican presidential hopefuls and violent troubleshooting? (Pun intended.)

Paul Bremer Gets Reamed A New A**hole By Erin Burnett

Share

Burnett Bremer

Sometimes watching someone squirm makes us feel uncomfortable. But when they bring it on themselves, not so much. CNN's Erin Burnett had Iraq Warlord and Bush confident and liar-in-chief Paul Bremer on her show last night. He didn't last long. A bob, a weave and then Burnett landed blow after blow against this fraud masquerading as a man. Without any doubt, he's lucky Obama didn't prosecute him for war crimes and treason against this country. And how does he repay this generosity? He blames Obama for what he (Bremer) left behind.

If you want to see the Thrilla in Vanilla, The Battle of the B's, or The Bremer's Bash, here you go-- front row seats. Better put on some plastic clothing. Erin draws blood early. Watch the cut over Bremer's eye when Erin quickly attacks on this CNN clip:

"People, a lot of people are watching you right now and they're —they're hearing you give your ideas of what to do. And they're saying, 'but aren't you the guy who got us in this mess?'"

"Look, you're the guy who ran Iraq for George W. Bush."

Hagel & Miller Pissing Contest Results In Bergdahl Firestorm

Bergdahl

Seems like the Republicans, sharks that they are, can't wait to taste the meat behind the Bergdahl blood in the waters. They realize that healthcare is a bust for them. The IRS scandal flamed out. Benghazi and the special hearings have taken a seat further back since the Eric Cantor massacre.  What's left?

The freshest meat in the Obama butcher shop -- the POW for Gitmo Prisoner Exchange. There's really nothing else for them to run on. And with Cantor being bounced from office, there's no new business that's going to transpire until, sadly, January of 2015 when the 215th Congress is called to order.

To distract the public's attention away from the anti-incumbent wave started by Majority Leader Cantor's demise, the GOP are push-push-pushing hard to get Bergdahl home so they can grill him. This is the GOP's last best chance to shake out voters and get them into the polling places in the November general election. A solid embarrassment for Obama and the administration could keep Democrats home and bring the fringe Republicans to the polls with their "white people's" ID's, ready to bring home a GOP Senate AND House.

So to goose things along before America's notorious short attention span -- just a few weeks ago it was the Benghazi special committee which was usurped by Hillary Clinton's head injuries "lingering effects." From there in America's short attention span theater, interest moved to the VA/Shinseki scandal, then came the Isla Vista Shooting and now it has turned to Eric Cantor. The Republicans in Congress are trying to right their tattered ship with the hull was punctured by the David Brat iceberg in Virginia's 7th District. The GOP urgently needs to grill our "no soldier left behind.", embarrass him, paint him a traitor and maybe they can limp into port with some sort of victory.

But that isn't easy to do when Bergdahl's not here in the US to interrogate. That's not stopping the GOP. Yesterday they called Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel to the Hill to answer questions about the recovering ex-POW. Things got hot and testy. Florida's Rep. Jeff Miller (R) went on the attack, basically accusing the Defense Department of hiding the swapped soldier. His health be damned. Don't listen to the U.S. doctor's treating him in Landstuhl, Germany. Bring him to us NOW!!! -- preferably in shackles. (I added that last part).

Here, courtesy of NBC News is that short, but fiery exchange. When these two men, Hagel and Miller are rubbed together, there's more than smoke on the Hill. There's a huge conflagration.

The Three Stooges, McCain, Graham and Barrasso Commit Treason In Israel

Share

three stooges

Secretary of State John Kerry has just wrapped extensive three day talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding a foundation for peace talks between the Palestinians and the Israelis. These were authorized, official talks, ordained by the individual countries themselves.

Reuters:

(Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said on Sunday the Israelis and Palestinians were making some progress in peace talks, though there was still a chance no accord would be reached.

This all  comes despite anti peace talks carried on unofficially by three warmongers, Senators McCain, Graham and Barrasso from the United States who UNOFFICIALLY crashed the peace talks and tried to submarine and sabotage the progress made by the US Secretary of State. The three GOP stooges willfully and intentionally undermined the official work of the US Secretary of State. Under a broad interpretation of their mission, that borders on treason.

Mondoweiss:

How often does a U.S. Senate delegation visit a foreign country, during a visit of a high ranking State Department official in order to make their opposition to the official U.S. position known?  Has it ever happened before?  And does the fact that we are talking about Israel make it OK?

The answer is this has never been done before and that it's not okay. We have a President. He sets foreign policy. Not the three stooges.

These three US Senators had no official business in Israel. Their unofficial purpose was strictly political, to interfere with any progress Sec. Kerry could make. Their interests are in keeping war-like conditions going in the Middle East to justify their lobbyists' interests in that region.

The Middle East is a complex situation. And working toward a solution in bits and pieces is the only way to go. There will be no grand peace without making smaller concessions on each side. So the US has gone to its strongest ally in the region, Israel, to begin the progress. While McCain, Graham and Barrasso stir the pot of hostilities and fear, claiming the biggest issue is Syria, the three stooges forget that we're already in talks with Syria -- talk that have resulted in continuing destruction of chemical warfare agents.

Kerry's doing Obama's bidding. And Obama sets our foreign policy. These three out of touch senators are helping destroy any potential progress. Interfering in the President's official policy making, damaging our standing and giving aid and comfort to the enemy is treason. These stooges better watch their step. Our national security is fragile enough without unauthorized interference. And seeing the three stooges behind bars pounding rocks was one of my favorite episodes. Maybe it's time to do a reboot.
