Overnight: Fasnacht in Basel, Switzerland: Morgenstreich

Fasnacht Basel SwitzerlandMore from 'Carnival' aka 'Mardi Gras' celebrations around the world, in this case in Basel, Switzerland.

One of the events this video covers is the 'Morgenstreich' - the 'morning prank' - so-called because it takes place on the Monday after the start of Lent in defiance, in years by, of a papal prohibition of any festivities taking place once Lent begins.

The Jewish Hunger Games - Kvetching Fire -- Yom Kippur Edition

Share

catching fire

Well, it's that time of year again, Yom Kippur 5774. At sundown tonight the Jewish Hunger Games begins for me and my Jewish friends. The traditions are the same as they have always been. We repent for our sins and we fast. Maybe we even throw in a quick visit (to be seen) at the temple. Hello, Rabbi.

This year, once again, the holiday coincides with the release of the hit movie series, HUNGER GAMES. The second installment, the sequel is called HUNGER GAMES - CATCHING FIRE. Well, in honor of the holiest of holidays for the Hebraic tribesmen, the official movie trailer for the Jewish version is out, and I'm proud to present it to you. With no further fanfare, I give you, HUNGER GAMES - KVETCHING FIRE.

To all of you wonderful readers I wish a L'shona Tova --  or Happy New Year. And I hope to see you all at Yang Chow's tomorrow night for the traditional breaking of the fast over some great Chinese food. Is there any other way to break the fast?

How much more do you need to hear? We can't impose our values on others, but we can withhold foreign aid to them. This is not a religious rite that we're discussing. This is child exploitation. And it's wrong. Please take a moment to find out more by going here: The Advocates for Human Rights.
