Paddy Kraska

Paddy Kraska left us a year and a day ago. We miss her!

I have delayed writing this post because it's just too damned sad. There's everything to say and nothing to say.

Paddy left us a year and a day ago and there has not been a day since that I have not thought of her and I know the same has been true for Laffy, David, Sher, Chris, her brother, Jeff her husband, and many many others who loved her.

I will put up Political Carnival archived posts about and by Paddy in the next few days. We all miss her terribly. RIP Paddy! We love you!

Laffy leaves #TPC, moves to full-time!

Sometime back in 2007, my dear friend and mentor, Cliff Schecter invited me to blog at his new site, which eventually morphed into The Political Carnival. Cliff left for greener pastures, and another dear friend, Paddy Kraska, and I took the reins and the site took off. We had such a great run together, placed in the top 100 political blogs according to the various blogsphere ratings agencies (out of millions!), and established TPC as an eclectic mix of Humor and Serious that continues to this day.

But when Paddy unexpectedly passed away (not long after my dad did),I went into a tailspin, and the blog underwent some major changes. It took me six months or so to find just the right combination of writers, writers who had huge Paddy shoes to fill, and who had to be more than just writers. They had to have passion, dedication, and heart.

Lwdgrfx and Sher came to the rescue, as did regular contributor David Garber. Nicole Sandler joined us, and TPC got back on its feet and started thriving again. But the same can't be said for its remaining co-founder, yours truly. The entire ordeal took a toll, one that I'm still working through.

My doctors wanted me to stop writing and "retire" from politics. Impossible. But I have tried every which-way to de-stress. Unfortunately, the responsibility of writing and managing a site 24/7 was still having negative effects on my health. I had to find a solution. That finally happened.  I made a really, really tough decision.

I will be leaving The Political Carnival and teaming up with Nicole Sandler at her site.

nicole sandler radio or not logo

We do at least one radio show per week together, plus we're very good friends, so it's a natural fit. I already have a "Laffy's Place" tab there, and that page is where my new digs will be whenever I feel compelled to post. I will now be able to concentrate more on my "real" life and doing radio (and maybe even get back to my BLUNT videos, who knows?) instead of posting so many articles on a regular basis, as I've done for the past seven-plus years.

Lwdgrfx and Sherry will continue on here at The Political Carnival. So please give them your support and readership as you always have. They simply rock. The TPC Facebook page will stay as is.

You'll be able to find me at Radio Or Not and as always, on Twitter (@GottaLaff) and Facebook (Gotta L. Aff).

I love you, TPC, always have, always will. But even more, I love our readers. Thank you guys, every last one of you, for all the love and support you've given me all these years. It is you who have kept me/us going, and hopefully still will. See you at Nicole's place!

end of an era

Tea Party Determined to Champion McDaniel in Mississippi

oops he's doing it again
Persistence, stubbornness, the ability to out-wait and out-dumb all competition … these are the pachyderm compatible qualities that have made the Lipton Brigadiers so easily swallowed by the GOP.

In the race we have loved to watch in Mississippi, Thad Cochran was declared the victor in his hopeful clamber back to another six years in the Senate seat he has done little to distinguish … but ever-so-much of late to remark upon.

Juiceyness speaking. Refresh yourself on the race, the astonishing recall and all things McDaniel and Mississippi here, the Carnival has covered its eccentricities deeply and well.

As has The Rachel Maddow Show, no exception with Steve Kornacki filling in for Ms. Maddow this week. It has the trademark raised Maddow eyebrow of witty pithiness.

Hah! Tea Party Legend In His Own Mind McDaniel just won't give up the fight … even though it's been officially called. Even on Fvx Non News Network. By a cadre of blondes.

… and I still maintain that it's more than a shade possible Rachel was a Ghost Goddess at Laffy, Nicole and Amy's In-Person Gathering of Goddesses Sisterhood L.A. Session! Not to be missed. In fact I'd have a re-listen as well, if you want to indulge now, of Nicole's earlier show Live From Amy's House in Los Angeles … Radio Or Not, that was funny right there, and powerful. I can link you to the podcast here for ease.

Wasn't that The Best?!? From the sweet sounds of The Mamas and the Papas right on through to the amazing dynamics of Nicole Sandler and Amy Simon Live from Cali! That's not just my Air America withdrawal talking, either.

The discussion of hedge fund and Silicon Valley high dollar funding in education is not something you hear a lot about in liberal circles these days … tip of the hat to Nicole's segment with David Dayen - pre-goddesses - for going there.

A Paddy K. is worth a thousand words

Paddy eyes

As longtime readers of The Political Carnival know, our dear Paddy unexpectedly passed away last January. We've posted several reluctant good-byes and tributes to her, but none as visually comprehensive and effective as the one at this link.

A picture is worth .... well, you know, and at the link, you'll find beautiful reminders of one of my dearest friends and the best blog partner a crazed liberal woman could have. As painful as it's been without her, somehow we here at TPC have found our way back... thanks to lwdgrfx, Sher, Nicole, Amy, and all our very generous guest contributors, especially David, the Domikes, and KC Boyd.

Lwdgrfx has painstakingly assembled the loving photo tribute to Paddy (special thanks to her brother and TPC guest contributor Chris), and I encourage you to link over and see who we miss so very, very much. Paddy was a joy, a scamp, a tough cookie, a sweetheart, a curmudgeon, a softy, a brilliant commentator, and a loyal friend.

There isn't a day... an hour... that goes by that I don't think about her, tear up, and laugh over the cherished memories she created with me, with us.

So if you never knew Paddy, you missed a good one. And if you were lucky enough to encounter her in real life, or here at TPC, on Twitter, or on Facebook, these photos chronicling her all-too-short life will make it seem-- at least for a moment-- as if she were still here with us, cracking us up, being a wise ass, swatting trolls, and giving us a group hug.

i miss you 2
