you've been served

Rev up your motors, Wisconsin, you’ve got missing computers, subpoenaed Republicans, and redistricting issues to contend with. The subpoenas are being used to force GOP officials to reveal where the mystery computers, external hard drives, discs and documents are located, and the groups who are making these demands want the answers under oath.

It’s been months and months, but the state of Wisconsin never told the plaintiffs, who want to search said computers, where the computers were, and made every effort to block them from finding out, so now the Dems are playing hardball. They want those documents, and they want them now.

The fun never ends in Scott Walker’s state…

Via JSOnline:

Groups involved in a long-simmering legal fight with Republicans have subpoenaed Assembly Speaker Robin Vos (R-Rochester) and other officials in an attempt to track down computers they want to search.

The move came a week after a panel of three federal judges ordered that two sides and the state quickly resolve their differences. The groups sued the state in 2011 over election maps drawn by Republicans, but for months the case has focused on documents that were improperly withheld from the plaintiffs.

For five months, the plaintiffs have been seeking to forensically search computers used for redistricting to find out why they did not receive documents that were supposed to be turned over to them and to learn if any other records were improperly withheld. So far, they have not been able to learn where the state computers are located, let alone search them.

The groups involved are asking why these records were withheld, and exactly how many records were there? Republican Governor Walker, along with the Republican-controlled legislature, approved redistricting maps that benefited their party in a big way. So what else is new, right? Especially in light of Scott Walker’s fascination with the new RNC-backed plan to rig blue state electoral votes in favor of future GOP presidential candidates.

Democratic and immigrant rights groups sued, and in 2012 a three-(federal) judge panel ruled that the way two districts were drawn had violated Latinos’ voting rights, so they made some changes.

But lawyers for the legislature did what they could to obstruct the release of documents and were fined. After that, more documents were discovered, and the plaintiffs asked for permission to search three state computers that were used to draw the maps. GOP anti-union Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald, who survived a recall election, is one of those who could be subpoenaed.

Remember him?

Stay tuned.

The other day, I posted that Karl Rove was served with a subpoena. Of course, he’ll just ignore it, citing felon’s privilege or some such excuse.

But an Ohio election attorney filed a complaint with the Ohio Election Commission against The Partnership for Ohio’s Future. Who are they? They’re an Ohio Chamber of Commerce affiliate.

And this is why I choose to keep the dream alive:

The complaint asks the Election Commission to find that there is probable cause to believe that secret money given to the Partnership is an in kind donation to candidates running for office. Arnebeck attests that he has “…a confidential source who personally witnessed Karl Rove and Tom Donohue coordinating their activities to determine the outcome of a state Supreme Court election.” Such coordination is illegal under state and federal election laws. [...]

If the Commission grants Arnebeck’s probable cause request, it would open Mr. Rove, Mr. Donohue and the Chamber of Commerce to widespread discovery that could lead to criminal prosecution based on charges of racketeering, money laundering and conspiracy. Coordinated activities between partisan candidates and groups like the Chamber of Commerce’s Partnership for Ohio’s Future and Rove’s American Crossroads are illegal. The complaint also alleges that money contributed to Chamber operations that were used in elections came from foreign corporations, which violates federal law. The filing with the Ohio Election Commission is a critical step in testing the legalities of these coordinated efforts.

The hearing is Monday, November 1st.

There are “ifs” in there, and this is only a first step, but my inner “weeee!” has been activated.

CBS, CNN capture video of Ohio attorney subpoena served on Karl Rove

Guess what CNN and CBS caught on camera? No, not another assault of a young liberal woman, and no, not Christine O’Donnell casting a spell over Bil Maher. Uh-uh. Even better:

A federal subpoena, issued by Ohio attorney Cliff Arnebeck and sanctioned by the Office of Ohio Secretary of State, was served last Sunday in Washington to Karl Rove on his way to an appearance on the CBS news program Face the Nation. [...]

In an article written by Bob Fitrakis and Harvey Wasserman and published at OpEdNews.com, the federal subpoena orders Rove to testify in deposition about his role in the alleged theft of the 2004 election, and to discuss his orchestration of tens of millions of corporate/billionaire dollars in this year’s General Elections on November 2.

The minute I find the video, it will be posted. Well, right after I open some Champagne.

AUDIO- Michele Bachmann: Subpoena, baby, subpoena!

President Obama wants to look forward, not back, especially when it comes to investigating the Bush crime family. However, Michele “Tea Potty Caucus Queen” Bachmann is revving up for a few legal maneuvers should the GOP win big in November. That’s right, America, helping this country get back on its feet is taking a back seat to subpoena, baby, subpoena.

Via Think Progress:

…Rep. Michelle Bachmann (R-MN) spoke to the GOP Youth Convention in Washington:

See, this is what you do when you have no policy ideas, no plans to improve the economy, health care, or, well, anything else.  All Rushpublics want to do is repeal and subpoena. In fact, if they regain power, their only plan is to revert back(wards) to those fine BushCo days from which we all benefited so richly.

Well, the rich benefited richly. The rest of us are unemployed.

Via an e-mail alert. I’m getting lots of those today.

Can an investigation of C Street be far behind?

The National Republican Senatorial Committee has been subpoenaed by a federal grand jury looking into the aftermath of Nevada Republican Sen. John Ensign’s extramarital affair with a staffer.

Via Politico. This is getting seriouser and seriouser. Paying people off is no laughing matter.
