I don't know which on is more offensive - Congressman Steve King's comments to the DREAMers who dared question him about his desire to deport them, or Senator Rand (Ran) Paul's dine and dash upon hearing them identify themselves as DREAMers!

I began the show with the whole video, embedded below for your convenience, and remind you why DREAM Action Coalition co-director Erika Andiola and fellow DREAMer Cesar Vargas wanted to talk with him in the first place.

You'll remember that, in a Newsmax interview in July of 2013, Steve King likened DREAMers to drug smugglers with calves the size of cantaloupes

Then we learned, thanks to Right Wing Watch, that

During a conference call last month with the National Emergency Coalition, Rep. Steve King said that the U.S. needs to crack down on immigration because our nation’s borders were established by God. Disrespecting the borders, the congressman suggested, is disrespecting God’s will.

He also blamed the child migrant crisis not on drug-war-related violence in Central America but on President Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, or as he calls it, “deferred action for criminal aliens.”

Steve King, who has been one of the loudest voices trying to undo DACA (President Obama’s Deferred Action for Child Arrivals program), even went so far as to call for the president's impeachment over the immigration issue on Fox "News" Sunday.

Now you can watch the DREAMers confront the man who would have them deported..

If that wasn't enough to make you wonder what planet these idiots arrived from, how about the Alabama Congressman who insists that the Democrats are engaged in a "war on whites," implemented by Barack Obama. Seriously... Listen here (the pertinent part comes in at around the 11:40 mark).

Should you not care to click on that link (and I don't blame you), here's what transpired yesterday, courtesy of Dave Weigel at Slate:

On Monday morning Brooks went on Laura Ingraham's show (which is to immigration restriction what Epic Meal Time is to calorie consumption) and engaged in 12 minutes of predictable recapping about the border fight. Then things got real. Ingraham played Brooks a clip of National Journal's Ron Fournier, warning that the GOP could not survive as the "party of white people." Brooks' response?

"Well, this is a part of the war on whites that’s being launched by the Democratic Party," he said. "And the way in which they’re launching this war is by claiming that whites hate everybody else. It's part of the strategy that Barack Obama implemented in 2008, continued in 2012, where he divides us all on race, on sex, greed, envy, class warfare, all those kinds of things. Well, that’s not true, OK? And if you look at the polling data, every demographic group in America agrees with the rule of law and securing our borders." He told listeners to seek out a speech Rep. Raul Labrador (whose family is Puerto Rican) gave about the rhetoric. "The Democrats, they have to demagogue on this, and turn it into a racial issue."

Ingraham let all that flow, then gave Brooks a chance to walk back. "I don't think Raul Labrador would probably say there's a war on whites," she said.

"That is in effect what they're doing," said Brooks. "That's the political game."

"They're playing the race card, they're playing the war on women card," said Ingraham. "That's what the left does, but I don't think 'war on whites' is the best phraseology."

Amazing.

This morning I welcomed Lee Fang back to the show to talk about his reporting for Republic Report on civil rights groups who sold out on Net Neutrality - a sickening enough story on its own.

..a massive coalition of Asian, Latino and Black civil rights group filed letters arguing that regulators should lay off of Internet Service Providers regarding Title II reclassification and accept FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler’s original plan. In other words, something close to half of the entire civil rights establishment just sold out the Internet.

But soon after that article was picked up by lots of other sites, one very observant reader noticed that the post had been taken down from one news site geared toward the African-American community. After doing some research, Fang discovered that the order to delete the article came from the website’s parent company, a business partner to Comcast.

According to discussions with several people at NewsOne, including an editor there, the decision to take down the article came from corporate headquarters. NewsOne editor Abena Agyeman-Fisher told Republic Report, “the company didn’t feel it was appropriate to have up and we were suppose to take it down.” NewsOne is owned by Radio One, a company with a 50.9% stake in a business partnership with Comcast known as TV One.

This just underscores the need for independent media outlets -- like Radio or Not!

While I had Lee Fang on the line, I also asked him about his latest piece for The Nation, "The Real Reason Pot is Still Illegal." Great reading, great reporting!

It's Tuesday, so The Political Carnival's GottaLaff joined me to talk about the rest of the news, including these stories:

Ebola for Dummeez, att: Donald Trump

Gov. "Ultrasound" McDonnell probed, media mounts soap opera defense for him

And if you were as annoyed by all of those damned fundraising emails - growing more frequent and frenetic as it grew closer to the end of the month (and fundraising quotas), then you'll love the new tumblr set up by someone who was equally annoyed, called Emails from the DCCC. Click and enjoy.

If you tuned in this morning to hear Congressman Alan Grayson, he'll be on first thing Thursday morning, followed by economist Stephanie Kelton!

Tomorrow, Crooks & Liars' Susie Madrak returns from her vacation to chat with me about the latest news, and the woman challenging Andrew Cuomo in NY's gubernatorial primary, Zephyr Teachout, returns to the show... Radio or Not!

Torture & Lies

FacebookTwitterRedditDiggStumbleUponTumblrLinkedInPinterestEmailShare

NicoleSandlerHeadshotw202h202

President Obama admitted the US tortured "some folks" following the 9-11 attacks.

Obama has used the word "torture" before to describe the harsh interrogation tactics used at CIA-run secret prisons during the Bush administration. But his words at a White House news conference were notably more direct than previous statements.

The comments reflect the line the president is preparing to walk as he gets ready for the release of a Senate committee report on the Bush-era rendition, detention and interrogation program.

According to the president, torture is not OK - but lying about torture is acceptable, as long as you apologize for it. Why do I feel like he learned this strategy by parenting pre-schoolers?

Marcy Wheeler joined in for the last segment of today's show, and she hit the nail on the head with her aptly-titled post, "But Brennan Didn’t Fuck His Biographer!"

Amidst calls for Brennan’s firing, Obama basically responded, “Sure, we tortured some folks, but I still have confidence in the guy who found the waterboard and black sites at which to torture.”

But I’m not sure why folks are so surprised by Obama’s reluctance to criticize Brennan for lying about hacking the SSCI. Aside from the mutual complicity — Brennan was personal witness to each and every drone strike Obama approved that violated international law, after all — CIA Directors don’t get fired for lying.

They get fired for fucking their biographer.

In the first hour of the show, Howie Klein was on for our weekly "Steve Israel Hour." We touched on the torture and lies problem, and both admitted to having the same scary thought: that once a president is sworn in and sits at the Oval Office desk for the first time to read the letter left by his or her predecessor, they find out just how limited their power really is, and that the CIA and NSA are the ones calling the shots.

Howie wrote "If You Let Criminals Off Lightly, You Guarantee One Thing: More Crime" about the problem with Obama's thinking in excusing Brennan's role in all of this.

We also talked about some important Senate races (Tom Udall who was the first to call for Brennan's ouster after his "apology" and is facing a very tough re-election. Plus Shenna Bellows, Jeff Merkely, Brian Schatz and a few others.) Blue America has a Senate page for donations here.

We also talked about some gubernatorial races up for grabs, including a tough re-election campaign for Illinois' Pat Quinn and his "sleazy billionaire sociopath" challenger. They also have a gubernatorial page here...

And we called out another World's Biggest Asshole today, Iowa Congressman Steve King who we remember as the one who claimed that for every valedictorian among the Dreamers, there are 100 who have calves the size of cantaloupes from smuggling marijuana across the border. Yeah, that guy. He's back...

As if that wasn't enough, he went of Fox "news" Sunday to threaten impeachment if President Obama dares to issue another Executive Order dealing with the issue of immigration:

How we've managed to survive this long is beyond me!

A big show is on tap for tomorrow, with Congressman Alan Grayson joining in at the beginning of the show (so get here at 10ET sharp!), and @GottaLaff in hour two.. Radio or Not!

Rep. King: All LGBT Is Self-Professed Behavior, Laws Protecting It Are Made For Pedophiles

FacebookTwitterRedditDiggStumbleUponTumblrLinkedInPinterestEmailShare

Dunce LGBT

Ah, the LGBT life: unfortunates filled with public pain, abuse, ridicule, discrimination, beatings, and even murders. Wait. Maybe unfortunates is a poor choice of words. Masochists is more appropriate, according to Congressman Steve King (R - Iowa). It seems Dr. Steve believes homosexuality or sexual identity is a choice, just not a verifiable one. HuffPo:

Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) defended Arizona’s recently vetoed anti-LGBT legislation on Sunday, arguing in part that homosexuality is a “self-professed behavior” that cannot be “independently verified."

“Although it’s clear in the civil rights section of the code that you can’t discriminate against people based upon -- and I’m not sure I have the list right -- race, creed, religion, color of skin," King said, "there’s nothing mentioned in there on self-professed behavior, and that’s what they’re trying to protect: special rights for self-professed behavior.”

I guess that means that most, if not all professed LGBT'ers are masochists. They love being discriminated against and ostracized. Just listen to King's own words. Count how many times King says, "self-professed behavior:"

Sexual orientation does not warrant constitutional protection because it cannot be “independently verified” and can be “willfully changed,” King contended.

See. It's a choice and we can just learn them gays and other queers to be straight. Just send them to Marcus "Mr. Michele" Bachmann. And King's insights and vast scientific knowledge on the LGBT life aren't new:

During the 2009 passage of the federal Hate Crimes Prevention Act -- which expanded the existing 1969 law to include crimes motivated by the victim’s sexual orientation, gender identity or disability -- King argued that the sexual orientation provision would provide pedophiles with special protections.

Ah yes, that very strong Washington pedophile lobby -- the leading firm there is Findem, Rapem & Abusem.

Money. Yup, and that's the reason Rep. Crazy made in arguing for the recent Arizona anti-gay (religious freedom) bill. By her vetoing it, Gov. Jan Brewer opened the door for the big fix. The big scam. What is that, you may be asking?

He [Rep. Steve King]  went on to suggest that anti-discrimination laws protecting gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people could give those individuals the opportunity to trick businesses into discriminating against them with the intent of “setting up a case.”

seinfeld puffy shirt

Well, at least now we know. When you're not being a pedophile, you're scamming the justice system with phony discrimination claims. This is all a money-making plot. Rep. King has officially set the record straight.

Thanks to him, I'm going out to get my LGBT membership card, put on a "Seinfeld puffy shirt," move to Georgia or Kansas where similar legislation to Arizona's is being considered and go sue somebody before it's too late. I want to be rich. I want to be part of the "1%" group. I wanna be gay!!!

Wackadoo Season In Washington

FacebookTwitterRedditDiggStumbleUponTumblrLinkedInPinterestEmailShare

Wackadoos

Among the economic Tea Party debt-ceiling danger deniers are the pictured Ted Yoho, Richard Burr, Steven King and Mo Brooks. The leader of this brigade is Sen. Tom Coburn, General of the Wackadoo militia. This gaggle of ingnorants have been spreading their ignorance across the news-waves, and sadly, there are too many vulnerables who might actually believe them.

Wackadoo is a term that's being used more and more often by pundits to describe elected officials, generally Republicans and Tea Partiers who just don't get it. They are birthers, climate change deniers, creationists and now economist gurus. These deniers are political terrorists who are determined to see this country destroyed so they can save it. Kind of the Werner Erhard (EST) philosophy of how to make you feel good. They suffer from hero complex -- but to be a hero, you need a damsel or dude in distress. So these sick puppies have set out to create catastrophe.

What is their take on this debt ceiling looming showdown?

Politico:

“Tough luck,” these people say. The nation spends too much as it is. Blocking a debt ceiling increase will provide the radical shock therapy the nation desperately needs to start living within its means.

That seems so diametrically opposed to just about every valid, responsible person or organization, Democratic or Republican.

Wall Street and the White House are warning that failure to raise the nation’s debt limit will result in an economic apocalypse. “There is no silver bullet. There is no magic wand that allows us to wish away the chaos that could result,” President Barack Obama said on Tuesday.

So, who's right. Sadly, the wackadoos want to take us over the cliff to find out. Can we afford this experiment? Here it is in a Politico video, a short breakdown on the debt ceiling. It's succinct and precise. It's all you want or need to know.

With such dire warnings, perhaps it's ironic that I'm asking you to join us on our donation drive. In order to stay operating, we're just hard working slugs who love what we do and hope you enjoy the results of our labors. But it takes money to keep the site running. If you can see to making donation, any size, your generosity will be greatly rewarded with continued coverage of breaking news, fun observations and enlightening musings.

It's simple, quick and greatly appreciated.
