Stephanie Miller Show caller: President Obama is "a liar because he uses telegrams!"

As I do every weekday morning, I start my day by revving up my funnybone and catching up on the latest political antics by watching The Stephanie Miller Show on Current TV. Today one of the main topics was -- surprise!-- common sense gun safety. Callers called, Steph and the Mooks responded, and listeners laughed and cried. Cried? you ask, why would they cry?

Okay, maybe no crying, but lots of banging of heads on nearby walls. Here's why: One caller, a rather inarticulate gun "enthusiast," openly displayed his paranoia and hatred of President Obama. Why such hatred of Obama? you ask. The answer lies somewhere in this rather bizarre exchange with Stephanie. Here's how it unfolded, slightly paraphrased:

Caller:

Obama's gonna take our guns away because he's a liar!

Steph:

What exactly has he lied about?

*Crickets*

Steph:

Why is he a liar?

Caller:

He's a liar because he uses telegrams!

Steph:

(pause) Telegrams...?

Caller:

Yeah! Er, I mean tele... tele...

Steph:

(dawning) Ohhh, you mean teleprompters?

Click.

stupid burns

If President Obama is concerned about rubbing people like this the wrong way by banning assault weapons, he needn't worry (and callers like this only reinforce the argument against them). He couldn't begin to please or assuage morons like Mr. Telesomething if he wanted to. So please, stop wanting to.

UPDATED- Stephanie Miller, Bill Press to Anchor Current TV Morning Block

FacebookTwitterRedditDiggStumbleUponTumblrLinkedInPinterestEmailShare

This is a fantastic sign!! Current must be doing well with it's evening shows to even consider expanding like this. Nothing to link to yet, but Mediaite has the press release that announces-

New York, NY – March 5, 2012 – Current TV today announced the launch of a new morning news block featuring live simulcasts of the radio programs “The Bill Press Show” from 6am-9am ET and “The Stephanie Miller Show” from 9am-12pm ET every weekday starting early this spring. These additions further strengthen Current’s line-up of political commentary and analysis programs which include “Countdown with Keith Olbermann,” “The Young Turks with Cenk Uygur,” and “The War Room with Jennifer Granholm”.

(snip)

Every weekday Current TV’s camera will be live inside Bill and Stephanie’s studios to bring viewers live coverage of two of the most progressive radio shows on the air today. Current viewers will now have access to daily live interviews, political commentary, listener calls, as well as Bill and Stephanie’s take on the news of the day.

“The addition of Bill and Stephanie to the Current TV news line up delivers on the promise of creating a 24 hour progressive cable news network that speaks truth to power and offers a truealternative to traditional programming,“ Bohrman continued.

MediaBistro now adding-

In a statement, both Press and Current TV president David Bohrman took aim squarely at MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” which has been a centerpiece of Current TV’s criticism of that network:

“2012 is a crucial year in the history of our country and we felt that morning cable television programming was simply not speaking to Americans with progressive viewpoints and ideas,” said Bohrman in a statement. “This new block will be an alternative to the tired banter and light news that is found on the air today. We are proud to be the only cable news network presenting independent, intelligent and engaging progressive programming for viewers every morning.”

When asked about MSNBC’s status as a progressive network, Bohrman and Current founder Al Gore have routinely pointed to “Morning Joe” as proof that it is not. Host Joe Scarborough is a former Republican member of Congress.

Simulcasting radio shows has long been a trick used by cable networks to fill airtime. Don Imus is currently simulcast on Fox Business Network, and before that his show aired on MSNBC. On sports TV, local sports talk radio programs are regularly on regional sports networks.

Simulcasting radio shows is much cheaper than producing an entirely new program.

AUDIO: Laffy imitates Palin on Stephanie Miller Sexy Liberal Show promo

FacebookTwitterRedditDiggStumbleUponTumblrLinkedInPinterestEmailShare

I am so lucky to know Shane-O. What a dear friend he is, and one very cool benefit of having been on his radio show and hanging out with him is that he occasionally invites me to do voice overs on his brilliant mash-ups and promos for the Stephanie Miller radio show.

I'm "Sarah Palin" at the very end. Wink. Also. Too.

David Shuster on Keith Olbermann's departure + VIDEO: Ed Schultz: "I have not been instructed to tone it down"

FacebookTwitterRedditDiggStumbleUponTumblrLinkedInPinterestEmailShare

Via TV Newser. Relevant segment at about 6:20.

I heard David Shuster on the Stephanie Miller radio show discussing Keith Olbermann's departure from MSNBC this morning, and from what he said, it still sounds as if Keith and his employers came to a mutual decision, with Keith having been increasingly frustrated over the past several months. David talked about MSNBC's brass, who's in and who's out, and how that might have affected Keith's decision to leave. Of course, it's clear Keith wasn't happy with the Comcast merger and what it could mean to future programming, nor could he be thrilled with other impending changes, which seem to include a more NBC network style news approach, per Shuster.

What was also clear is how deeply Keith was affected by his viewers, their loyalty, and their support.

David said that MSNBC is still free to do its current thing, and that, at this point at least, Comcast wouldn't want to mess with success, considering that Countdown, The Rachel Maddow Show, and The Ed Show have all contributed to an upswing in ratings. That doesn't mean, of course, that if they can't maintain their audiences, management wouldn't change the schedule or remove current broadcasts.  But per David and others, Comcast wasn't directly responsible for kicking Keith out. The tension was obviously building for awhile. This is not to say the merger didn't factor into Keith's reasons for leaving, as I mentioned above. He saw what was coming.

David Shuster also went into some detail about how Keith picked a remarkably talented team, how well-oiled a production it was, and how these same highly professional people were let go along with Keith.

Stephanie Miller spoke to Ed Schultz, who told her that he and other hosts were under pressure to refrain from sharing any information they might have on the matter.

According to today's L.A. Times:

On Friday, former MSNBC host David Shuster wondered whether the coming structural shakeup influenced Olbermann's departure. "Steve Capus, who's the head of NBC News, will certainly have much more influence over MSNBC, and this may be part of it," he told Anderson Cooper. "It was no secret that Steve was particularly upset — justifiably so — with how Keith handled the suspension." [...]

[A] person familiar with Olbermann's exit agreement said it prevents him from turning up on a competing channel for about a year.

Shuster is working on a venture of his own, coming this spring, involving original investigative reporting, something that has been sorely lacking in the media these days.  He has financial backing and said he would reveal who those backers are when he premiers the project.

Paypal cuts off "Atlas Shrugs". Pamela Geller: "Paypal is calling Atlas a "hate" site...Accurate reporting & news is hate."

FacebookTwitterRedditDiggStumbleUponTumblrLinkedInPinterestEmailShare

First a memory jogger about who exactly Pamela Geller is. We posted this previously, but it's time for a summer rerun:

Here's one more for good measure:

Now a quick recap of what Geller has been up to:

A conservative activist and the organizations she leads have paid several thousand dollars for the ads to run on at least 30 city buses for a month. The ads point to a website called RefugefromIslam.com, which offers information to those wishing to leave Islam, but some Muslims are calling the ads a smoke screen for an anti-Muslim agenda.

Pamela Geller, who leads an organization called Stop Islamization of America, said the ads were meant to help provide resources for Muslims who are fearful of leaving the faith.

"It's not offensive to Muslims, it's religious freedom," she said. "It's not targeted at practicing Muslims. It doesn't say 'leave,' it says 'leaving' with a question mark."

As in, hey Pam, when will you be leaving?

Much more about the legalities here.

Now it's time to hear from Pouty Pammy:

The little money that Atlas generates (I have no large donors) is about to be cut off. Apparently the jihad is hard at work trying to kill free speech (and the bus ads and the 9111 no mosque movement) from making its way to those in pursuit of truth. Paypal contributions helps  pays for bus ads, rallies, live coverage (everything) and I so much as said so when asked repeatedly by the press who paid for the bus ads. Readers do and did.

Paypal is calling Atlas a "hate" site and will close my account if I do not remove the paypal option from my website. Accurate reporting and news is hate.

Truth is the new hate speech:

Please email or call paypal and let them know Atlas Shrugs is a news site and political blog. I am not responsible for the bad news in the world. I just report.

Great, another lawsuit. Want to make a contribution to my fight?

Mail a check to Pamela Geller, PO Box 121, 1040 1st Avenue, NY NY 10022.  Until I beat those pathetic Paypal pussies. Unbelievable. [...]

[T]he global jihad, choking on petrol dollars, is trying to shut down my little spigot. [...]

Oh, the irony. Atlas reader Jon pints out that the inciters to violence and Jewish genocide, Revolution Muslim, has a paypal button. Got that?http://www.revolutionmuslim.com/

Islam in Action has the videos of their calls to jihad slaughter. And this, too.  Nice work, paypal.

What could those pussies be thinking? Unbelievable.

You can read the letters here.
