President Obama a Socialist? Think Again

Just a preamble to the article on The Huffington Post I link to below.

Right-wingers see the world in black-or-white terms - that a system of government is either 'socialist' or 'capitalist' If the US Postal Service is delivering your mail, it's 'socialist' because, in their view, it's partially paid for by taxes. If FedEx or UPS delivers your mail, it's 'capitalist' because it's a private institution. The US Military, created and run by the government, is a socialist institution, paid for by US taxpayers, but right-wingers are okay with that because they profit from contracts to private firms with it. Right-wingers complain that government institutions are wrong because they produce no profits but that's not their function: their function is to provide services, not to create profits for shareholders.

What I fail to see in right-wing thinking is how governments and free enterprise can work together for mutual benefit. I will take tourism in Switzerland as a very quick example and compare it with a similar mountainous country not far away: Albania. The difference: in Switzerland the government works with private enterprise (ski resorts, hotels, restaurants) to build the roads, railways, tunnels, and other infrastructure for people to visit the country easily. Private enterprise profits from the visitors and pays taxes to the government which continues to build the infrastructure, train workers, keep the country safe, all things private industry would never be able to do on its own. So is Switzerland 'socialist'? Certainly not in the sense Albania was/is? (I haven't kept up with it recently). Not as far as I'm concerned. To the article: if President Obama were a 'true' socialist, he would be trying to increase the role of the government in our economy for its own sake. He's not doing that. His time in office has shown no essential differences to other Democratic presidents. Here's the story:

Here's Even More Evidence Obama Is The World's Worst Socialist. (Full story here.)

In what must be history's strangest socialist dictatorship, hiring by private companies just hit a record high. Meanwhile the government is still not hiring anybody.

Private employers added 192,000 jobs to nonfarm payrolls in March, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said on Friday, making up all of the economy's job growth for the month. Federal, state and local governments added nada. There are now 116 million people working in the private sector, topping the previous peak set in January 2008. Federal, state and local governments, meanwhile, employ 21.8 million people, down from a high of nearly 23 million in May 2010.

Incidentally, here's a story about how private enterprise treats its workers:

Is that the world you want to live in?

Conservatives to Queen of England after Obama victory: "Find it in your heart to forgive us and take us back"

An Open Letter to the Queen of England

Your Majesty,

We, the people of the former American colonies, would like to offer our most sincere apology over that little misunderstanding we had 236 years ago. Had we known that we were going to be subjects anyway, we could have saved a lot of trouble and hard feelings.

We were under the mistaken belief that we would be free, sovereign citizens; we believed that our hard work would yield its own rewards without someone coming along and taking what we built in the name of “Fairness”. We thought our laws and Constitution would protect us from a foreign born dictator, and our freedom to worship would prevent us from becoming a corrupt, morally bankrupt society (silly us).

Little did we know that our own free press would intentionally sabotage, deceive and withhold the truth from us in order to reelect a Socialist that still holds distain for our nation and contempt for its founding principles. Nor did we believe that there would be so many citizens dependent on government handouts that they would blindly elect an unqualified charlatan, let alone reelect him.

Anyway, Your Grace, we are truly sorry and humbly sincerely beg your forgiveness. If you can find it in your heart to forgive us and take us back, we promise never to trade British oppression for Socialist tyranny again.

Your most humble servants,

The American People

They can't help themselves.

Pip pip! And a heartfelt bon voyage.

The Political Carnival was offline for a few hours and look what happened...

TPC took a nap for a few hours while we moved to our new server. During those few hours, look what happened:

French Socialist candidate François Hollande won a presidential runoff, defeating Nicolas Sarkozy.  Austerity got the boot.

Ron Paul Wins Majority Of Nevada Delegates To Tampa Paul got the "woot!"

Exit Polls: Greek Austerity Parties Suffer Major Losses Greece needs some loot.

And this very sad news:

George Lindsey, aka Goober Pyle, dies at 83:

Actor Andy Griffith said in a statement that accompanied the family's Sunday morning announcement of Lindsey's death: "George Lindsey was my friend. I had great respect for his talent and his human spirit. In recent years, we spoke often by telephone. Our last conversation was a few days ago. We would talk about our health, how much we missed our friends who passed before us and usually about something funny. I am happy to say that as we found ourselves in our eighties, we were not afraid to say, 'I love you.' That was the last thing George and I had to say to each other. 'I love you.' "

VIDEO: Hey Scott Walker, who's the commie pinko Marxist socialist now?

Here is my previous post about President Obama's new seven-minute video, "Forward." You can find the actual video there, too.

Of course, as soon as it was released, the righties went ballistic and felt compelled to compare "Forward" to "European Marxism". They forgot "Kenyan hippie French gayism," but who's counting?

PRWatch.org puts it this way:

The Washington Times, Fox and Breitbart bloggers have uncovered concrete evidence of President Obama’s commie pinko sympathies. Obama’s new seven minute campaign commercial ends with one word: “Forward.”

“New Obama Slogan Has Long Ties to Marxism, Socialism” blares the headline in the Washington Times. “Many Communist and radical publications and entities throughout the 19th and 20th centuries had the name ‘Forward’…One was the daily newspaper of the Social Democratic Party of Germany whose writers included Friedrich Engels and Leon Trotsky,” warns the Times.

Similarly, the Fox Nation opines, “the Obama campaign did not look backwards into history when choosing its new campaign slogan ‘Forward’ – a word with a long and rich association with European Marxism.”

As Rick Perry would say, "oops" (skip to the end unless you want to hear a whole lot of Scotty's lying bull pucky; his job record is the worst in the country):

What a commie pinko socialist snob.

I wonder if ClusterFox, the WashingtonTimes, and the Breitbartoons realize that “Forward” is also Wisconsin's official slogan.
