Former President Clinton heads to Wisconsin to campaign for Tom Barrett in recall election

Who says public pressure doesn’t work? I tweeted my hiney off for this:

(CNN)Former President Bill Clinton will head to Wisconsin Friday to campaign on behalf of Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, the Democratic challenger to Republican Gov. Scott Walker in the state’s recall election next Tuesday.

It’s about time. The silence from the DNC has been deafening.

Clinton will team up with Barrett at a Milwaukee rally tomorrow. Neither President Obama nor V.P. Biden are planning to go to Wisconsin before the election on June 5th. Too bad, Biden would have been a perfect fit.

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the DNC Chair, and Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley, the chair of the Democratic Governors Association, both campaigned in Wisconsin Wednesday.

Ed’s been all over this story:

Secret pro-Scott Walker group jams phones of opponent Dem. Tom Barrett with spam texts

The phone number in the above screen grabs belongs to Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett’s campaign headquarters. (link and link)

The secret plan was to bombard Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett’s campaign headquarters with calls in order to shut down their phones, just in time to screw with the get out the vote effort so badly needed by the Dems… in order to combat voter suppression and millions in donations by the Koch brothers.

It worked, according to Think Progress.

Welcome to Scott Walker World.

VIDEO: Entire Wisconsin gubernatorial recall debate between Tom Barrett and Scott Walker

The DNC needs to heap on the support for Barrett, stat. And by support I mean funds. Scott Walker is a Koch puppet who is spending scads of their money in order to “divide and conquer” and destroy every union, public school, and protection for women’s health care and privacy rights.

If you can, please donate to Tom Barrett here.

It’s debate time! I don’t want to miss this one. Via Channel3000.com:

Friday’s debate in Milwaukee is being broadcast live statewide at 8 p.m. Friday and sponsored by the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association.

Walker and Barrett will meet for a second and final debate Thursday night, also in Milwaukee.

The debate will be livestreamed on Channel 3000 at 8, 6 pm PDT.

ADDED: Here’s a list of other sites where you can find live streaming of the debate.

Let’s hope that Tom Barrett can demolish Scotty and his anti-union, anti-education, anti-women’s rights arguments. It’s hard to express how important this election will be, but these two videos will shed some light on that.

WI Gov. Scott Walker Recall Watch: “Yes! The DNC heard us and has sent real help”

It’s about time. Let’s just hope it isn’t too little too late. HuffPo:

The Democratic National Committee is fundraising directly for the Democratic Party of Wisconsin in an effort to aid Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett (D) in the upcoming gubernatorial election against Gov. Scott Walker (R). [...] What’s notable about this fundraising appeal is that the money will go directly to Wisconsin Democrats, rather than to the DNC. [...]

A Democratic party official told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that Wednesday’s fundraising email was being sent to “millions” of people.

Here’s the email I just received, which is one more example of how much our voices matter:

Thanks to your signature and the signatures of 123,293 people (and counting) our message was heard loud and clear. Today Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the chairperson for the Democratic National Committee, sent a fundraising email nationally to “millions” of supporters and gave a helping hand that could make all the difference in this close, hard-won opportunity to recall Scott Walker. We had faith that the DNC would help even more than they had already planned, and because you joined in solidarity with us in Wisconsin, that faith has been fulfilled. Along with the help fundraising in Wisconsin and the ground support they’re assembling in the home stretch, we have a stronger-than-ever sense of being able to win this thing!

From the email:

“Choices don’t get clearer than this . . .Winning in Wisconsin sends a powerful message to the far-right extremists, and it starts to roll back their worst offenses. To build our organization and make it happen, Democrats need to come together to turn out hundreds of thousands of voters — and we all have a part to play.”

So thank you, thank you, thank you! From the bottom of progressive Wisconsinite’s hearts and mine.

Now let’s get Scott Walker out of here!

In Solidarity,

Mary Magnuson

P.S. We couldn’t have done this without a great, people-powered tool like SignOn.org to create this petition and MoveOn.org to help get it seen. We have nothing but gratitude for both of them!

Former WI Gov. Scott Walker aide tied to major No Call List violator

Former Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker aide and campaign worker, Kelly Rindfleisch is in hot water. As deputy chief of staff for pre-Gov. Scott Walker (then-Milwaukee County executive), Rindfleisch did campaign work on the job, for which she is now facing misconduct charges:

Kelly Rindfleisch, a former Walker staffer, was charged with four felony counts of misconduct in public office. Another staffer was charged with two misdemeanor counts of political solicitation by a public employee. And both have been accused of fundraising activities, which is a no-no when you do that while working at a taxpayer-funded job.

Associates of Scotty’s were accused of using personal laptop computers and an unofficial “secret e-mail system” to solicit money for Walker’s campaign and that of Brett Davis, who was running for lieutenant governor.

All this happened right under Walker’s anti-union nose.

That was from a previous TPC post back in March.

Rindfleisch is the owner of National Lending Solutions, and the business address for that company is identical to the address of First American Funding Company, which allegedly contacted more than a million consumers on the state’s No Call List with mortgage solicitations.

First American Funding is owned by Michael Eisenga.

The plot sickens:

COLUMBUS (WKOW) –  A former aide and campaign worker for Governor Scott Walker … registered a business with ties to the largest violator of the state’s No Call List. [...]

Columbia County court records show tax warrants filed by the Department of Revenue against Eisenga list the address of the Republican Party of Columbia County.

The rest of the details are at the link.

Hey DNC, do you want WI Gov. Scott Walker to win? Really?

Greg Sargent has written a post at WaPo that has me seething, along with a whole lot of Wisconsin Democrats:

Top Wisconsin Democrats are furious with the national party — and the Democratic National Committee in particular — for refusing their request for a major investment in the battle to recall Scott Walker, I’m told.

The failure to put up the money Wisconsin Dems need to execute their recall plan comes at a time when the national Republican Party is sinking big money into defending Walker, raising fears that the DNC’s reluctance could help tip the race his way. [...]

This idea that labor has unlimited resources is a fantasy,” the Wisconsin Dem says. “Our needs go well beyond that.”

A huge factor in this race will be turnout. And if you read TPC regularly, you know we’re fighting as hard as we can to encourage people to help with registration and get the vote out.

I’ve written endlessly about the millions of voters who could potentially be disenfranchised because of Voter I.D. laws, and Wisconsin is a state that is causing major concern. So, a major push there to get voters to the polls is mandatory and underway.

But that costs money.

So DNC, what’s the problem? Wisconsin is a bellwether state. We as a nation can’t afford a loss there, nor can the people of Wisconsin. Where’s the support? Why the lag?
