An Open Letter to the Queen of England

Your Majesty,

We, the people of the former American colonies, would like to offer our most sincere apology over that little misunderstanding we had 236 years ago. Had we known that we were going to be subjects anyway, we could have saved a lot of trouble and hard feelings.

We were under the mistaken belief that we would be free, sovereign citizens; we believed that our hard work would yield its own rewards without someone coming along and taking what we built in the name of “Fairness”. We thought our laws and Constitution would protect us from a foreign born dictator, and our freedom to worship would prevent us from becoming a corrupt, morally bankrupt society (silly us).

Little did we know that our own free press would intentionally sabotage, deceive and withhold the truth from us in order to reelect a Socialist that still holds distain for our nation and contempt for its founding principles. Nor did we believe that there would be so many citizens dependent on government handouts that they would blindly elect an unqualified charlatan, let alone reelect him.

Anyway, Your Grace, we are truly sorry and humbly sincerely beg your forgiveness. If you can find it in your heart to forgive us and take us back, we promise never to trade British oppression for Socialist tyranny again.

Your most humble servants,

The American People

They can't help themselves.

Pip pip! And a heartfelt bon voyage.

Video of the Day- Queen Elizabeth, ex-IRA leader share historic handshake

FacebookTwitterRedditDiggStumbleUponTumblrLinkedInPinterestEmailShare

Wow, this is a huge deal. I'm sure my Mom and Nana never could imagine it happening.

LONDON -- In a meeting symbolizing the end of years of enmity between British rule and Northern Ireland republicans, Queen Elizabeth shook hands Wednesday with a former Irish Republican Army commander.

Martin McGuinness, now a deputy first minister of Northern Ireland and a member of the pro-republican Sinn Fein party, was a senior IRA member in the years of sectarian violence. During that time, the group was responsible for blowing up the yacht of Lord Louis Mountbatten, the queen's cousin, killing him and three others while they vacationed off the coast of Northern Ireland in 1979.

The once unthinkable handshake took place away from media eyes -- apart from one camera crew -- behind closed doors at a charity arts event in Belfast, witnessed by the queen’s husband, Prince Philip, and leading politicians including Irish President Michael Higgins and Northern Ireland’s first minister, Peter Robinson.

The seemingly mundane greeting was widely heralded as a turning point. Peter Sheridan, host of the event, told reporters, "It's a huge act of reconciliation, you cannot underestimate how important this is."

President and Mrs Obama to make state visit to Britain in May

Pretty cool that they'll be staying at Buckingham.

Barack Obama is to make a state visit to Britain in May after accepting an invitation from the Queen, Buckingham Palace has announced.

The US president and his wife, Michelle, will make a three-day trip ahead of the G8 summit of world leaders in France that he is expected to attend.

The announcement of the visit, from 24-26 May, was made simultaneously on both sides of the Atlantic by the palace and the White House.

Downing Street said: "We are very pleased that this visit is taking place. It is a sign of the strong and enduring relationship between our two countries."

(snip)

He and a delegation are expected to hold talks with the prime minister, David Cameron, on a range of issues.

The Obamas will stay at Buckingham Palace. A full ceremonial welcome and banquet will be held.
