Contributing Impressively to the GOP War On Women, Domestic Violence in Arkansas

FacebookTwitterRedditDiggStumbleUponTumblrLinkedInPinterestEmailShare

Republican Elephant

The great state of Arkansas. Most known politically perhaps for producing President Bill Clinton and Fvx Nation star and famed squirrel-hunter, Mike Huckabee.

Recently on MSNBC's NewsNation with Tamron Hall, it also became fully known for the depths of its domestic violence problem, did Arkansas.

Violence against women has been getting press for all the wrong reasons, both an uptick in incidence and a general defunding and denial of it as an epidemic by the Regressive Right. Civilian, military, southern and northern, all economic classes and ethnicities included. It's a nondiscriminatory epidemic.

We The People Equality

Even prior to the #YesAllWomen outcry, we had seen the media make efforts to report on both sexual and other violence against women, and girls, to spread awareness. It was heartening to see a politician tackle it head on, as Mike Ross has done in Arkansas.

A short time ago we saw the heroine Malala dedicate her birthday wish and the energies associated with acknowledging her own significance globally, to the Nigerian girls still kidnapped and ripped apart from their families. [Video below from Time Magazine.]

Now bring that awareness of Global Girlpower to Tamron's coverage of the inadequate attention to the plight of women and violence in the all too close to home great state of Arkansas.

Mike Ross' plan calls for boozing funding for the sort of shelter that Laura might have found sanctuary within, as opposed to being in the grave, one more victim of domestic violence in Arkansas that might have been saved were dangers better managed.

Deja Moo

Domestic violence is particularly difficult to reach. It certainly needs as much boosting in law enforcement and awareness in the state of Arkansas as can be raised to tackle it. Laura Aceves is one horribly tragic story.

There are daily cases across the country that parallel hers, a horrific modern reality that the GOP continually chooses to deny and defund.

The candidate for the Arkansas governor's mansion behind this plan, Mike Ross, is a Democrat who feels this is an under-discussed and under-funded issue, and not a partisan issue. He is running for office on a number of platforms, and this appears one of the strongest. Have a look, from MSNBC.

Arkansas has some of the worst domestic violence realities in the country. May this election cycle see some healing light and public funding come to helping the victims and treating the roots of this endemic problem.

Wife beaters maybe aren't just standard apparel in Arkansas? That term has always bothered me - but so does this story.

Elizabeth Warren Has Divined and Deployed Her Life's Work

FacebookTwitterRedditDiggStumbleUponTumblrLinkedInPinterestEmailShare

YellenWarrenw212h202
We all get grrrreat liberal email, amidst the junk, but it's especially exciting when something new about our amazing Elizabeth Warren, the Senator from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, is waiting to be opened.

This morning it was Howard Dean in tandem, a good pairing for progressives. The active and admirable group, Democracy for America, is turning ten.

Hi Sherry -- I just wanted to make sure you had a chance to read the inspiring email that Sen. Elizabeth Warren wrote to DFA members below. I'm so thrilled with what we've built together over the last 10 years. With your critical support now, we can super-charge our people-powered legacy and elect more "Elizabeth Warren Democrats" to Congress -- the kind of leaders who will take our country back from the banks and billionaires.
- Howard

DFA has perhaps not embraced the absolute most progressive candidate for every round of their online grassroots inspired 'Dean Dozen' ... but they've come mightily close and have helped elect 801 Dems besides Elizabeth Warren who would collectively and individually freak the be-jeebus out of Sarah Palin and her Lipton Brigadiers.

chickfil-a

An arugula munching crowd that in toto would send Rush Limpbaugh dashing for enough manufactured hysteria to keep him in leather ass-less chaps for years. [Long running Free Range joke, The Rushbot has a purported fondness for frolicking in asslesss leather chaps while high. ;) ]

Warren's own message was typically optimistic and energizing.

DFA fought shoulder-to-shoulder with me to defeat Scott Brown in 2012, but that's not the only way they've had my back. Over the past year, they've made my fight for the middle class their fight -- and they have doubled down on leveling the playing field for working Americans, fighting with energy and passion.

When I introduced my very first bill, the Bank on Students Loan Fairness Act,more than 50,000 DFA members signed a petition supporting it. Together, we fought back against cuts to Social Security, helping President Obama decide to drop "chained CPI" from his budget completely.

For sheer enjoyment, plus the splendid edification(!)some great audio of Warren from a recent discussion of where the middle class is headed in the Twenty Teens … 'to hell in a highly gussied hand basket' would be the Jeopardy answer. The Young Turks get the sincere tip of the hat, for Roaring Warren!

Gay Wedding Cake

Gay Wedding Cake

You can't help but feel a tingle of satisfaction when ignorance gets its comeuppance. So get ready for a tingle from, of all places,  a bakery called Sweet Cakes, in Oregon. If you don't remember them, they refused to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex couple. This was found to be in violation of the law and instead of following the law, they decided to turn off the oven and shutter their shop. Nearly a year later, here's the report on them from Raw Story:

Sweet Cakes by Melissa closed its doors in September of 2013, but continues to exist as an online delivery business. One of its current clients is the ex-gay ministry known as The Restored Hope Network, whose purpose is “restoring hope to those broken by sexual and relational sin especially those impacted by homosexuality.”

So where's the irony in all that?

The Restored Hope Network is run by “ex-lesbian” Anne Paulk, whose marriage to another ex-gay advocate, John Paulk, ended in divorce last year after he determined that he was no longer a “formerly gay” man.

gay conversion therapy

It seems making gay conversion cakes might have its market, but it has to make one wonder if they're also advertising those baked goodies next to the welcome back to the "boy's club" or "lady pond" cakes.

When will bigoted zealots realize being LGBTX is not a sickness that can or even should be cured? It's who some people are -- just as some people are tall, some are short, some have blue eyes, others brown. We can't change what is...

Oh, and in case Sweet Cakes by Melissa on the Internet wasn't aware, they still can't discriminate if a gay couple wants to order a same-sex wedding cake from them. Internet sales too are covered by the same discrimination laws that forced her to close her doors back in 2013.

A personal tip to Melissa and her Sweet Cakes: You'll sell more same sex wedding cakes than conversion cakes. Baking for what is -- as opposed to what never will be -- is a money maker. Though divorce cakes could be a blossoming business for you if you keep clients like the Restored Hope Network.

'Get Out and Push', Says Maddow of the Useless, U.S. Congress

FacebookTwitterRedditDiggStumbleUponTumblrLinkedInPinterestEmailShare

World's End

Maddow finally did it! Put her head on the desk in despair and choked out a couple of frustrated, choked "Gaah!!!"s in the opening block of her Friday evening show … on the gobstoppingly absurd absenteeism of 25% of the American diplomatic forces.

Key positions are vacant because the actual Do Nothing Congress is Out of Order. They won't even appoint or confirm - it's the mind-blowing equivalent of laying off 1 out of every four American diplomats and foreign service personnel around the world.

furlough_congress_225quot_magnet_10_pack

For sheer spite. Obstructionism and putting some degrading 'asterisk' next to Obama's presidency is more important than our national security - to the GOP, neo-hawks.

The capper: Congress is currently less popular than Putin with the American people. As they are about to go on vacation themselves, it's going to be a race to do as little as possible.

you-think-im-ywwqli

We currently have no ambassadors to Russia, Guatemala and more than a few other hotspots in foreign affairs this summer.

Bernie Sanders was slightly optimistic about the hopes of VA Reform early this afternoon. Despite both houses having passed the actual bill - Bernie Sanders and John McCain were the bloody co-sponsors, they had it down. Congress looked ready to pass a bill, #wtfbbqlaw??

Partisan bickering and final budget wrangling have ground even the Veterans Administration reform efforts to an astonishing new level of Gonzo Gridlock.

Funny-Office-Signs-02-Microwave-Toaster

Bernie joined Rachel at quarter past the hour to offer his perspective. He was no longer just optimistic. He seemed to be working his way up to projecting the announcing of an imminent deal. "Yesterday was a very rough day … but we will look abysmal if we cannot produce legislation to help the Veterans. … We plan on working tomorrow and Sunday, and despite the huge ideological differences … we can come together." {paraphrasey} Have a look.

Earlier in the day a veteran called Sanders 'intractable' and a bit of a problem in the gridlock, which raised my hackles but nonetheless deserves a look. Sanders is indeed determined to include mental health and traumatic brain injury as high priorities, and perhaps he is holding out for ideals. But he is fighting hard for progress within this dysfunctional congress.

don'talwayswatch

By contrast, the sub for Hannity had Paul The Younger on to bloviate about the Middle East, then let little Randy suggest an Iron Dome for the U.S.. Isolationist much?! Then he had a spin around the entire feeble Feck question on Ukraine, and did the obligatory 'lack of leadership' schtick.

"Staring down Putin" … he has been reading his Ayn.

Sorry for the early bird Fvx, but these side by side comparisons between the two cable networks, one delivering actual news with a stated liberal slant and a fan of facts, one that sells hysteria and propaganda like it's a new investment op; are critically important in the two views of this Dysfunctional Congress and the state of breaking bad they have sunk to.

fox-news_o_1179933

These compare and contrasts are so critical - the harsh disinfectant of light shining on the murk and hate at Fox Noise and diagnosing the brainwashing for what it is, a propaganda and cult network bent on guarding the wealth of the upper tier.

Oh, and that Rand Paul baldly boasted of calling the president to advise him was just that last bitter note that Fvx Nation is addicted to.

It's going to take the mother of all Twelve Step Programs to sort out those zombies and zombettes when they stumble away from the mother ship … a wrecked and listing Tea Party clipper.

Elizabeth Warren: "And We Will Fight For It!"

FacebookTwitterRedditDiggStumbleUponTumblrLinkedInPinterestEmailShare

VictorySilhouettew275h202

Just give Elizabeth Warren 3 1/2 minutes and you'll see why America needs her leadership. What she lays out in her plan for the U.S. is exactly the blueprint Democrats MUST use as they run in 2014. She's precise, clear and distinct. Hillary, are you listening?

If Democrats get people to the polls this fall, they will not only retain the senate, they can retake the House. Hard to believe? Watch this:

Fox Noise Blames the War On Women for Barbara Comstock's GOP Fail

FacebookTwitterRedditDiggStumbleUponTumblrLinkedInPinterestEmailShare

Streetcar Playbill

Under the category "You have to be kidding us or it's scary" with this foolishness about females, this way the hell wrong about women, file this nugget of nonsense over at Fvx Nation this morning.

They are less reporters of any calibre and just fixers of blame on the president and everyone who might not thoroughly loathe him, and that applies to every situation … every time … no matter what.

Particularly over at Fvx and Friends. Barbara Comstock, apparently having gotten quite a verbal assault by Dem Op Paul Begala, was whining away to Hasselbeck about how liberals are the ones who actually limit women. [You know the hypocritical, regressive Palin Schtick.]

Newsflash, Palin and Pundettes: your candidates suck. They are ill prepared, insincere, and are clearly working against their own best-interest in virtually every aspect a woman could be dwelling on and they do not seem to even be aware of the clearly reversed flow of time.

Laffy has nailed it here in the past, there's a zombie,'zombette' Stepford-esque quality to an alarming number of conservative spokes-pundettes, political candidates all over this country and certainly amongst Fox Watchers that cannot be missed.

Part denial, part lockstep? It's the worrying combination of fear and distaste you get whenever Elizabeth Hasselbeck opens her mouth. Or worse, the Ultimate Blonde Pin-Up Pundette for the old and new GOP, Ann CocoLoco Coulter. She crossed from traditional support right to the Tea Party without missing a beat to say something offensive about how dumb liberals are.

cuckoocoulter20005

Then, this.

Republican congressional nominee a victim of 'war on women'?
Jul. 25, 2014 - 4:14 - Barbara Comstock under attack from veteran Clinton operative

The following morning, Fox has it in the spin cycle. Go, Hasselbeck.

From Politico, a quote from Paul and another short excerpt, catch the entire story here, they really pump the old Clinton War Bellows over there.

If she wins, she will no doubt practice the same politics of personal destruction she and her ilk practiced in the Clinton days,” said Paul Begala, a former political adviser to Bill Clinton who has assumed the role of Comstock attack dog. The Republican, he said, has a “really almost sick, sort of stalker-like obsession with President Clinton.

That sounds about right. Comstock was twenty years younger then and overtly the Linda Tripp type, made no bones about being on archeological offensive digs for the best Clinton Dirt and must have been good at it - look at her opponents. She was also dying to be canary in the coal mine for Benghazi, we suspect she's still researching that. Politico continued:

Comstock — a 55-year-old, Georgetown-educated lawyer widely regarded as one of the premier opposition researchers of her generation, with a “wonderfully devious mind,” in the words of one reporter who witnessed her at the peak of her sleuthing — declined to speak for this story. But she is already hinting publicly that she’s itching to take on the Clintons again.
“We need to get to the bottom of the truth in Benghazi, and I will do that because I’ve done that before as a chief investigator in Congress,” she said at the Virginia state GOP convention recently, referring to the 2012 attacks that left four Americans dead and marred Clinton’s tenure as secretary of state.

"Sleuthing" is hilarious, I don't know if she has a PR guy that good, or if it's a term Politico uses often and I just haven't seen. If this politics thing doesn't work she can pop right over the pond and give the fellows at Scotland Yard a paw.
huh?

Nancy Of the Neighborhood, the Pelosi Political Girlhood in Baltimore

FacebookTwitterRedditDiggStumbleUponTumblrLinkedInPinterestEmailShare

femfist

Thomas Roberts had a in-depth and finely-accessed interview with former [and furure] House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in all kinds of forms, Tuesday.

Here are just a couple. With a documentarian for a daughter, and being 'on camera' for so much of her modern life, Pelosi may be loosening up on the cam cam confessional moments. And she hit Colbert in the NYC also. Too.

Those unguarded glimpses are rare, like the elusive and/or mythical palimpsest, hidden text, of medieval and magical manuscript repute … and they offer one quite a different angle on the woman who reached the highest seat in the American political system yet via her Speaker Chair.

way

One down, two to go.

Roberts started his footage reveal on Way Too Early, we've already established that I adore Thomas, but Mika rubs me the wrong way five days a week. Then on to MJ.

At the end of the media experience, back at the Morning Joe Schmoe (blessedly absent) table, Roberts in real time in the 7:30 a.m. block asked Rep. Pelosi a phenomenal question about the problems at The Borders, in the wake of the news that Rick Perry is sending in the National Guard, Yee Haw, down in Texass.

Halperin pitched the political softballs. P-pew p-pew. Methinks the Speaker also too played softball in high school. In Baltimore.

The video footage that shows her softer side, walking around the old Charm City neighborhoods, are very illuminating. To think of Pelosi as one of those white be-gloved, fifties, early Mad Men Era 'political daughters' ... it's eye-popping. You also see strong Italian and Irish women in there, so it all makes perfect Lady Sense.

For fun and extra insights, Pelosi on Stephen Colbert last night, good timing.

Part 2.

Only Colbert gets those questions to land!
