Let me know if you've heard this one before. So, see, the enviable claim was made that FedEx founder Frederick W. Smith had agreed to support Huntsman should he run for president.
Wow, that's impressive! Except for one tiny detail, courtesy of WaPo:
“Fred Smith has not committed any financial or other support to Gov. Huntsman. He is not supporting any particular candidate for the Presidency and does not plan to do so until later in the election process, if at all,” William Margaritis, a senior vice president at FedEx, said in a statement to The Post.
Of course, this would be no reflection on Mr. Huntsman's attention to detail or organizational and hiring skills, not to mention his impeccably thorough approach to fundraising. I'm sure he'd make a fine candidate.
“This error was the result of an overeager staffer,” Huntsman spokesman Tim Miller said. “We sincerely apologize to Mr. Smith for the mistake.”
Blame those pesky "overeager staffers", because they are always but always getting their bosses in hot water. Can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em.
