Attempt by National Republican Congressional Committee to embarrass Dems for #IRS matter goes painfully awry

embarrassed bag over head

The National Republican Congressional Committee tried their best to connect Democratic lawmakers to the so-called IRS scandal, but oops! it backfired. Just when we thought the GOP couldn’t crap on themselves any more, just when we thought our pointing and laughing at them was subsiding, they revived their clownitude just for us!

HuffPo:

An attempt by the National Republican Congressional Committee to embarrass Democrats went awry on Thursday, when the group published a blog post riddled with errors.

For example, they referred to then-IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman as “Dan.” They must have missed Ron Christie getting pummeled by Joy-Ann Reid about that very guy.

They also mentioned two House Democrats who had already retired, so they were no longer “House Democrats.”

but wait there's more smaller

Next they confused Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) with the former mayor of Medellín, Colombia, Luis Pérez Gutiérrez– in a photo! Yes, they managed to put their ignorance and sloppiness out there in picture form for all to see. HuffPo has the visuals.

Their excuse?

NRCC spokesman Daniel Scarpinato told The Huffington Post, “This was an early draft that was not meant to be posted publicly because it had not yet been edited.”

Isn’t that just like the NRCC? They go to all that effort to find just the right photo and wham! Someone has to go and tell them it’s the wrong Gutierrez. And the wrong “House Democrats.” And the wrong Shulman.

They must have been crestfallen.

And humiliated.

No wonder they had wanted the “R” word (“Republican”) taken off the NRCC website. When in doubt, disassociate.

VIDEO: “Typical moms” defending Kelly Ayotte’s gun vote in ad are actually GOP activists

kelly ayotte

Team Ayotte appears to be getting desperate, and for good reason. Since she and 45 other Republicans voted against gun background checks, her  poll numbers took a nose dive, Gabby Giffords’ group targeted her, and the daughter of a Newtown victim confronted her at town hall meeting. Did I mention 91 percent of New Hampshire adults support expanded background checks?

So what do her supporters do to rebuild her image and poll numbers? I mean other than applaud her grandstanding during the Benghazi Senate hearing. Glad you asked.

Think Progress:

[A] national conservative group based in Iowa is running television ads featuring seemingly ordinary New Hampshire moms and law enforcement officials defending the one-term senator from out-of-state “partisan” attacks.

[A] cursory search of individuals in the advertisement reveals that the supposedly typical New Hampshirites are actually long-time Republican party activists and officials.

Here’s the ad:

National Republicans pulling plug on “trespasser” Mark Sanford’s congressional campaign

mark sanford

I was just writing a post on all the latest about Mark Sanford– the  C-Streeter whose Appalachian Trail led him straight to political hell, who is now engaged to his Argentine “soul mate,” and who managed to avoid criminal charges following an ethics investigation–  when this popped up in my inbox:

National Republicans are pulling the plug on Mark Sanford's suddenly besieged congressional campaign, POLITICO has learned – a potentially fatal blow to the former South Carolina governor's campaign against Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch.

Blindsided by news that Sanford's ex-wife has accused him of trespassing and concluding he has no plausible path to victory, the National Republican Congressional Committee has decided not to spend more money on Sanford's behalf ahead of the May 7 special election, according to two senior party officials who have been briefed on the decision.

"Mark Sanford has proven he knows what it takes to win elections. At this time, the NRCC will not be engaged in this special election," said Andrea Bozek, an NRCC spokeswoman.

The move comes hours after Tuesday night's report by the Associated Press that Sanford's ex-wife, Jenny Sanford, filed a court complaint accusing him of trespassing at her home in early February – which would be a violation of the terms of their divorce agreement.

For more information… http://www.politico.com

He tried to use the ol' Super Bowl defense. CNN:

"I did indeed watch the second half of the Super Bowl at the beach house with our 14 year old son because as a father I didn't think he should watch it alone. Given she was out of town I tried to reach her beforehand to tell her of the situation that had arisen, and met her at the back steps under the light of my cell phone when she returned and told her what had happened."

But then this nugget of information was revealed. CNN:

Former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford has engaged in a "pattern" of trespassing on his ex-wife's property since their divorce and was even issued a warning about the matter by her attorney two years ago, according to court documents related to the incident.

So the NRCC has apparently had enough.

All together now: Awwww.

VIDEO: NRA instructor couldn’t be at protest because– oops!– he shot himself in the foot

NRA instructor shot own foot

Paul Bass:

NRA instructor describes accidentally shooting himself in the foot – the lessons he drew — and why gun control measures threaten citizens’ rights and safety.

Kenny is a 49-year-old licensed National Rifle Association instructor who leads training classes in pistol and rifle use.

Q:

“So then why do you need the rifle if the government’s gonna roll ya?”

Kenny the NRA instructor:

Because every particular firearm has its own personality. It shoots differently. Some are more accurate. Some shoot, kick light.”

Ahhh, got it! Finally! The reason gun fetishists gotta have a firearm that will be completely ineffective against the heavy artillery and drones that the U.S. government will undoubtedly use on its own citizens IS– fanfare!– because every firearm has its own personality.

At long last, the mystery of irrational fear and obsession with military style weaponry is solved.

Via the New Haven Independent:

NRA instructor Eugene Kenny would have joined his fellow gun-rights supporters at the state Capitol Wednesday—if he hadn’t accidentally shot himself in the foot. [...]

Wearing an NRA hooded sweatshirt, he had his left foot in a cast because he accidentally shot a bullet last week while cleaning his Glock handgun.

Let’s review our lessons, now, class: There are no gun accidents. There is plenty of gun negligence.

Please proceed, Kenny:

“I usually always cock it back and it usually ejects a shell that’s in the chamber. You pull the trigger to release the slide … This time there was a cartridge in there. And BANG! Hit my ankle.”

“There was a cartridge in there,” said NRA Instructor Kenny. No, it wasn’t “in there.” Kenny negligently left it in there, or failed to notice it was in there, but it wasn’t just magically “in there.”

Did I mention that Kenny had $8,000 worth of guns—ten, mostly handguns, plus a rifle– stolen from his apartment? They must have been grabbed by the “bad guys”– who now have the “good guy’s” guns.

Ooo! Ooo! I bet you didn’t know that gun safety laws are adding jobs:

He said while he opposes the package of bills in Hartford on philosophical grounds, they may only help his business because rifle owners and others may need new certification training.

See, gun zealots? There’s always a silver lining.

Drunken cheating husband fights with wife, shoots his own finger trying to remove wedding band

dim bulb2 stupid

Another day, another idiotic shooting by a “responsible gun owner.” This time it was a federal prison guard in Pennsylvania who got drunk and shot his own finger because he wanted to remove his wedding band. Yes, his own finger. Yes, he inflicted this upon himself.

Stupid Drunk Guy was at home, fighting with his wife over his infidelity (to quote Gilda Radner’s Roseanne Roseannadanna, “You sound like a real attractive guy!“), and wouldn’t you know it? He couldn’t get his dang ring off his dang finger.

So what’s a “good guy with a gun” to do? Shoot the dang ring off, of course.

One problem though: The idiot mangled his own finger, but still didn’t manage to remove the ring. It remained in place.

Via TPM:

(AP) — On the day of the shooting, Malespini “had been drinking quite heavily throughout the day and he and his wife had been arguing throughout the day about an affair he had had several months ago,” Caskey said.

Malespini has been charged with disorderly conduct and was cited for firing a weapon within city limits but also is charged with reckless endangerment, a second-degree misdemeanor punishable by up to two years in prison. That’s because the bullet Malespini fired could have endangered someone else, Caskey said.

Yes, the “good guy with a gun” could have killed his wife. As noted in the hashtags by @KagroX in my post Police: Fla. teen who bought gun illegally accidentally shot off his penis and testicle. Got regret?

VIDEO- Paul Ryan: ” We’re not going to give up on destroying the health care system…”

oops smallerpaul ryan budget announcement

“This to us is something that we’re not going to give up on, because we’re not going to give up on destroying the health care system for the American people.”

This video has been out there for a day or so, and I’ve been meaning to post it but never got around to it. Until now, and it is so worth another look. It’s priceless.

Amazing how the truth slips out inadvertently, isn’t it? What’s that definition of a political gaffe again? Oh yeah: A remark that reveals some truth that a politician didn’t intend to admit.

At least Radical Ryan admitted that he thinks he can get Obamacare repealed and that “We don’t like this law.” What he didn’t admit was his “breathaking dishonesty” and his “LaLaLand fantasy budget”, or that he “doesn’t mind spending federal money, as long as it’s on the rich” or that “he’s not a deficit hawk, he’s a health care hawk.”

The repeal efforts will go nowhere, as usual, and Paul Ryan has once again become a laughingstock.

VIDEO: Oopsie! Fox-CT’s TV coverage of Woman’s Day at the Capitol shows mostly women’s breasts

fox-CT tv shots women breasts

Women’s History Month and Connecticut’s Women’s Day at the Capitol were reported on with a heaping spoonful of disrespect on Fox-CT, a Fox affiliate.

An apology was issued, but only after the 13 or so seconds of cleavage shots were called out. And to make matters worse, according to HuffPost, the footage was used twice. That was no mistake.

fox tweet apologize for airing breast footage

As for all the achievements that should have been lauded, the timing couldn’t have been worse. At about :18, one of the questionable visuals coordinated perfectly with the words “women’s accomplishments.”

Leave it to Fox.

My Left Nutmeg has details.
