Governor Scotty isn't going to like this one bit. Seems Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn said on “UpFront with Mike Gousha,” that crime has "undeniably" spiked because criminals are heavily armed and have access to guns.
What?! A law enforcement authority supports common sense measures to prevent more gun violence? Unheard of!
Per WisPolitics, Flynn wants to strengthen laws to make it harder for criminals to access weapons, but we all know that those gun-totin', firearms-fondlin' GOP elected officials want none of that. Talkin' to you, Scott Walker.
“Our problem here in Milwaukee is we have individuals who have chosen a criminal lifestyle and under the current statutory arrangements, it is more dangerous for them to get caught without their gun because of the life they lead than to get caught with it by us,” he said on the show, produced in conjunction with WisPolitics.com. [...]
Still, Flynn said the city needs help from the state Legislature. That includes fixing what he called a loophole in the state’s concealed carry law. [...]
He also called for a mandatory three-year minimum sentence for carrying a gun illegally. He said that would get inside the brain of offenders to encourage them to “leave the gun at home.”
Now if only someone could get inside the brain of gun zealots and encourage them to do the same. And yes, in an effort to be even-handed, I'm assuming that some of them have brains.
