How adorable that Republicans are finally scrambling around trying to accept the inevitable: Marriage equality is in America’s future, and *gasp!* it’s even going on all around us as we speak!

George Will on “This Week”:

“There is something like an emerging consensus. Quite literally, the opposition to gay marriage is dying.  It’s old people.”

ABC:

A recent ABC News-Washington Post poll found 51 percent of Americans support gay marriage, while a recent Pew poll shows national support at 48 percent — up from 35 percent in 2001.

And Think Progress notes that another poll from USA Today and Gallup showed 53 percent in support of marriage rights for gay and lesbian couples.

But per Think Progress, Republican strategist Mary Matalin said single moms and all those bastard children are what’s really important, not marriage equality:

“Well, because Americans have common sense. There are important constitutional, biological, theological, ontological questions relative to homosexual marriage. But people who live in the real world say the greater threat to the civil order is heterosexuals who don’t get married and are making babies. That is an epidemic in crisis proportions. That is irrefutably more problematic for our culture than homosexuals getting married.“
