Tomorrow is Media Bias Sunday! Or as I like to call it, Librul Media My Ass Sunday aka John McCain/Lindsey Graham Sunday.

And yes, McCain is back! Moving on… and on… and on…

Let’s take a sneak preview of what’s coming up on the Big Sunday Talker Line-Up, per the Los Angeles Times and WaPo, okay? Okay.

This is not a complete list; Paddy provides that to you tomorrow. Sometimes it’s hard to tell if the lists include panel members, so bear with me if sometimes those commentators are included… or not. I try not to because panels usually include mostly Republicans, and if there are “Democrats,” they’re about as “liberal” as, well, Harold Ford.

And as you may have noticed, Fox is not included, because, well come on, what’s the point?

ABC’s “This Week” — David Plouffe (D); Karl Rove (R).

NBC’s “Meet the Press” — Rep. Mike Rogers (R); Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R); Sen. Chuck Schumer (D).

CBS’ ”Face the Nation” — Sens. John McCain (R); Sen. Jack Reed (D).

CNN’s “State of the Union” — Rep. Darrell Issa (R).

It’s time to do the math:

Red Rs + Red Rs, carry the pi, divided by D, times Bias, minus even-handedness… calculating…

Total: 5 Rs, 3 Ds. Please feel free to check the addition and political affiliations.

Your Daily Dose of BuzzFlash at Truthout, via my pal Mark Karlin:

Thom Hartmann recently wrote an extremely widely read article on how the Public Broadcasting Service has evolved into a sometimes self-censored television network, in large part because major donors represent the 1% who would be the subject of discussion when it comes to economic concentration in the hands of a few.

Hartmann entitled his commentary, “The Corporate Dictatorship of PBS and NPR.” The primary example Hartmann offers of how critical analysis necessary for formulating public policy is de facto censored concerns how PBS dropped the funding of a documentary called “Citizen Koch.” [...]

Enter Alex Gibney, who won a 2008 Academy Award… Gibney filmed a documentary for WNET, “Park Avenue: Money, Power and the American Dream” that focused on one of the wealthiest residential buildings in New York City: 740 Park Avenue.

According to Jane Mayer, who had written about the Kochs before in a celebrated New Yorker article in 2010, it would be difficult to do a film about 740 Park Avenue without examining the Koch empire that created their wealth, as well as their political activities. What did WNET President Neal Shapiro do when he realized that “Park Avenue” might offend David Koch? Why, he called him and offered him a rebuttal, a roundtable discussion, a written response: anything that would appease a 1% donor who was on the board of the station (Koch has since quit) and was about to give a bundle to WNET. [...]

Gibney was told that the most pressing problem was Charles Schumer, the Democratic senator from New York. Schumer’s staff had called WNET, arguing that “Park Avenue” falsely accused the Senator of supporting tax loopholes for hedge-fund managers. Gibney double-checked his research and stood by his interpretation. [...]

[T]he WNET battle over “Park Avenue” clearly intimidated, according to Meyer’s New Yorker Piece, other documentary makers in terms of what appeared to be a growing PBS bias to protect wealthy donors and board members from on-air criticism.

koch bros murdoch buying newspapers

In November 2012, I wrote BIG problem: Former News Corp. exec expected to head Tribune Co., Rupert Murdoch eyes LA Times, Chicago Tribune.

Back in April, I wrote The Koch Bros., who plan to buy up 8 major newspapers, “see the conservative voice as not being well represented.” Um…:

Think Progress:

Right-wing funders and business industrialists David and Charles Koch may purchase the Tribune Company newspapers, which include the Chicago Tribune, Baltimore Sun, and the Los Angeles Times. The brothers are “interested in the clout they could gain through the Times’ editorial pages,” the Hollywood Reporter notes.

Under the circumstances, saying this is a serious concern is an understatement.

I’m an L.A. Times subscriber and if these corporate conservative monsters take over, it would be disastrous. I would immediately cancel my subscription and campaign for others to do the same.

Or I could introduce a lot of people to this. Via Free the Press, Buy the Tribune Company:

Corporate media is ruining the integrity of news. Winning the Tribune Company back might just start moving the tide in a different direction. Consider this an experiment that could have an enormous positive ripple effect for democracy.

Americans have said, time and time again, that they trust public and community media much more than corporate media. What if that extended not just to their radio or TV set but their local paper again?

Together we can make history. Really.

Can’t contribute? That doesn’t mean you can’t help take back the media!

Spread the word, tell your social network on Facebook and Twitter. We’re going to need as many people as possible to help out if we are going to meet our goal of raising $660 Million.

Also make sure to like The Other 98% on Facebook for even more opportunities to  bring down the corporatocracy.

Please watch the entire video and then link over, there is much more, including a bunch of cool graphics.

via Yahoo @maxzimberMarine umbrellas ObamaVia Yahoo’s @maxzimbert: Marines provided umbrellas during a rainy press conference.

As you can see, earlier today President Obama and Prime Minister Erdogan held a joint press conference. And as you can see from the video, the president is standing by his Attorney General.

But there was a lot in that presser we didn’t get to see, because this happened:

tweet boehlert turkish pm Obama CNN

MSNBC often cut away, too, as did CNBC, per the tweets I received. Here are a few of them, plus a couple responding directly to Media Matter’s Eric Boehlert’s tweet. I’ll start with my own:

Dear MSNBC, CNN: So Turkish prime minister’s words don’t count? Now the presser is over, all we got was commentary from talking heads.

Here are the tweets I managed to copy and paste as they whizzed by:

Disrespect to other countries

Do they think we care nothing about anyone not from US? They are wrong.

Because, you know, Turkey is SO unimportant on the world stage right now..bordering on Syria and such..*mutter*

This is making me angry.

Wouldn’t it be nice if there were a 24 hour News network that had the capability of covering these long Press–oh, wait.

MSNBC & Andrea Mitchell doing same. It’s rude and she should be called on it.

Does she not understand Turkey’s interest in Assad stepping down?

What does it matter what he has to say? He’s only one of the key players in solving the Syrian quagmire.

And then, the pièce de résistance. Andrea Mitchell turned to David Gregory (of all people) for commentary, leading off with this question (slightly paraphrased, she added one other adjective that I can’t remember):

“Is the president too passive and ____, as he’s been criticized for?”

How objective. How fair and balanced.

How insulting.

Misogyny War on Women Created by AzureGhost

We talk about the Republican War on Women all the time here at TPC, but did you know that the film industry has one of its own to contend with?

So much for all those “liberal Hollywood” GOP talking points.

The Los Angeles Times:

Despite the success of recent female-driven movies such as “Bridesmaids” and the “Hunger Games” and “Twilight” series, female representation in popular movies is at its lowest level in five years, according to a study being released Monday by the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism.

Among the 100 highest-grossing movies at the U.S. box office in 2012, the study reported, 28.4% of speaking characters were female. That’s a drop from 32.8% three years ago, and a number that has stayed relatively stagnant despite increased research attention to the topic and several high-profile box-office successes starring women.

But here’s another part of the study that was disturbing:

When they are on-screen, 31.6% of women are shown wearing sexually revealing clothing, the highest percentage in the five years the USC researchers have been studying the issue.

Additionally, “56.6% of teen girl characters in 2012 movies wore sexy clothes, an increase of 20% since 2009.” Why? Because Hollywood pursues male audiences and thinks this is the way to attract them. They don’t seem to grasp that females go to the movies as often as their male counterparts.

Between this study and the even more disturbing news of increasing numbers of military rapes, aggressive anti-choice efforts by conservatives, the company selling “bleeding” gun targets at the NRA convention hawking violence against women, not to mention the ongoing issue of pay inequality… well, come on, it’s 2013 and this is where we are? Unacceptable.
