Gay Dads Get Hateful Birthday RSVP For Their Daughter

FacebookTwitterRedditDiggStumbleUponTumblrLinkedInPinterestEmailShare

Gay Birthday Invitation w398h263

Laffy Note: This turned out to be a hoax by some DJs. Here's the scoop via Joe My God.

So you're two proud gay dads and can't wait to throw your daughter the best birthday party imaginable. You send out invitations and you expect, out of respect for your daughter, you'll get mostly positive responses. That's not really too much to expect.
Let me repeat, two GAY dads.

So above is the RSVP response they got from the mother of an invitee via HuffPo:

Tommy will NOT attend. I do not believe in what you do and will not subject my innocent son to your "lifestyle." I'm sorry Sophia has to grow up this way. If you have an issue or need to speak to me: [number erased]

Ignorance does really start at home, but it's not started by the young. It's started by the old. It's the parents, not the innocent kids. Now there's so much wrong with that short response, but really, is this 2014 or the dark ages? What does Tommy's mother think is going to happen to her son if he attends? Is he going to be molested? Is he going to be sold into slavery? Is he going to be "indoctrinated?"

Obviously this mom thinks any or all of those will happen. What's her giveaway -- She highlights "lifestyle" as if it's a choice for these two men. They evidently missed out on getting into Marcus Bachmann's (Rep. Michele's husband) program of conversion therapy.

How awful to be brought up in a heterosexual household by ignorant adults rather than being the child of two same-sex, loving people who want to teach their child that there's more to life than news, weather, sports -- oh, and bigotry.

I wonder if the rack where they hang their house and car keys has the reminder, "Hate, don't leave home without it."

Only Today, 2014, Has A Federal Court Ruled To Let LGBT Jurors Hear Trials

FacebookTwitterRedditDiggStumbleUponTumblrLinkedInPinterestEmailShare

LGBTJuryw354h244

What's next for the right-wing conservatives to try in making this country fair for only white, Christian, and homophobic citizens? Why the justice system, of course. If you can't get a law passed banning anything that prohibits them from excluding balanced, fair or common sense thinking in the jury room, these narrow-minded conservatives may face extinction. And they're not going down without a fight.

Here's the latest from the LA TIMES:

SAN FRANCISCO — A federal appeals court became the first in the nation to rule that prospective jurors may not be excluded because of their sexual orientation, a decision that expands juror protections beyond race and gender and provides legal ammunition to challenge laws that limit gay rights.

The sweeping, unanimous decision Tuesday by a three-judge panel of the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals overturned a mixed jury verdict in an antitrust case involving an AIDS drug. The 9th Circuit said the case would have to be retried because an obviously gay juror was unjustifiably excluded from the jury.

Truthfully, I had never heard of the jury system excluding people for sexual orientation, but evidently I was just unaware. Here we are in 2014 and someone's sexual direction could be used against them in a court of law. I know accused criminals have the right to remain silent, but evidently those determining their guilt were supposed to exclude themselves if the crime was federal.

But really there's two issues that I've put in bold print that I find nothing short of amazing. To start with, this case quoted above is the FIRST in the nation to make this discriminatory ruling out of bounds. Really? Only now?

And the second issue is the more important one. "...an obviously gay juror" -- what's an obviously gay juror? Did he/she wear make-up? Did they hit on the same-sex foreman? Did they have a membership card they were flaunting in the RuPaul fan club? What makes someone "obviously gay?"

That's the amazing part of this outrageous but eye-opening story. Until now, if someone looks differently than another person and fits a stereotypical image, they can be excluded from a jury? And according to the article, part of which is quoted below, they still can be.

Lady Justice

I thought justice was blind. Look at Lady Justice balancing her scales. Did you notice something else about her? She's blindfolded. There's a reason for that.

Thankfully the 9th federal circuit court of  appeals court made this first in the nation, unanimous finding. But it only deals with a small portion of this country. It's not national.

Tuesday's landmark ruling extended the restriction to federal courts in California and courts in eight other Western states, lawyers said.

Now let's wake up the rest of the nation. Justice is seriously being challenged.

This particular case had to do with an antitrust lawsuit involving an AIDS drug. For that reason alone, the "obviously gay" juror was dismissed. We allow doctors to sit as jurors on medical trials. We allow lawyers to sit on juries despite perhaps having knowledge not admissible to lay jurors. Why can't we have LGBT jurors sitting in on any case of any origin in any area, AIDS related or not? Aren't they people too?

Walk On The Wild Side With Lou Reed

FacebookTwitterRedditDiggStumbleUponTumblrLinkedInPinterestEmailShare

Lou Reed

This week we lost Lou Reed. Many remember the name, but all remember his music. His career included stints with the Velvet Underground and as a solo artist. But one song stands out to me more than all the rest. It's the 1972 song, Walk On The Wild Side from Reed's album, TRANSFORMER. It was produced by legendary great David Bowie.

The song is about transvestites who come to New York City and become prostitutes.  And Reed's inspiration was real life. The "girls" were "Holly," "Candy," and "Jackie." They are based on Holly Woodlawn, Candy Darling, and Jackie Curtis-- three real drag queens who appeared in Andy Warhol's 1972 movie Women In Revolt. And each verse introduces a new character, all real and all cronies at the infamous Andy Warhol Factory, where Lou often hung out.

"Take a walk on the wild side" is what these rental transvestites would say to potential customers.

If the public understood what he was writing about, it would have certainly been banned.  Remember, this was 1972. Rob and Laura Petrie weren't even allowed to sleep in the same bed though married. A female character on TV wasn't allowed to be divorced. Yes the times were a lot different then. There was a lot more to the song than "And the colored girls say, Doo, doo-doo Doo, doo-doo Doo, doo-doo.

In a 1972 interview with Disc and Music Echo,

Reed described Walk On The Wild Side as an "outright gay song," saying it was "from me to them, but they're carefully worded so the straights can miss out on the implications and enjoy them without being offended. I suppose though the album is going to offend some people." '

This came out at a time when audiences were intrigued by cross-dressing and homosexuality in music. "Glam Rock," where the performers wore feminine clothes, was big, and artists like David Bowie and Elton John were attracting fans both gay and straight.

He was certainly ahead of his time with his socially conscience awareness and his anecdotal tunes. He knew he was pushing the envelope and yet he was able to get away with it overall. From Songfacts:

This [Walk On The Wild Side] was not banned by the notoriously conservative BBC or by many US radio stations because censors did not understand phrases like "giving head." Depending on the regional US market, the song was, however, edited for what we now call political correctness. Reed leads into the female vocalists' "Doo, doo-doo" hook with the words, "And the colored girls say," but some stations played a version that replaced the phrase with, "And the girls all say."

So while we pause to pay tribute to an amazing artist, why not watch and listen to this great version by Lou R himself.

High School Girl Sentenced to Jail For Consensual Sex With Another High School Girl

FacebookTwitterRedditDiggStumbleUponTumblrLinkedInPinterestEmailShare

Kaitlin Hunt

So Florida justice is at it once again. Seems they can't be satisfied with an occasional natural hurricane, they have to brew up judicial storms of their own.

Some of the recent Sunshine State cases include the Trayvon Martin case, where at the root of it was the "Stand Your Ground" law. An unarmed boy is walking home alone, is confronted by an armed man and the boy ends up dead. The shooter's sentence, none. He's innocent under Florida law.

Then another high profile case, Marissa Alexander, 32, (who's Black and yes, that does seem to matter in Florida) fired a gun, a warning shot into the ceiling because she was afraid of her approaching, abusive  husband. She invoked the same state's stand-your-ground law but was found guilty of aggravated assault. The result, a 20-year sentence under state law.

Now comes another soon to be infamous case: Kaitlyn Hunt (female) who was an 18-year-old high school senior when she was arrested and charged for having sex with a then 14 year-old (female) schoolmate. Two high school kids fooling around but they were same sex, so now taboo enters the case.. The outcome of this teen activity? See for yourself:

UPDATE: THE VIDEO BELOW IS FROM AN EARLIER PLEA OFFER. SUBSEQUENTLY, SHE TURNED IT DOWN AND HAS GONE TO JAIL UNTIL MID DECEMBER, 2013

What if this was heterosexual activity, as opposed to same-sex? Would there even have been an arrest at all, let alone a young woman going to prison? Was this a case of a young girl being victimized or a lesbian relationship being vilified?

We're never going to know for sure, but it certainly makes you wonder what's going on in Florida. Is it the orange juice?

Leading Cause Of Murder In American? Gays -- Dean and McMillan

FacebookTwitterRedditDiggStumbleUponTumblrLinkedInPinterestEmailShare

Sons of Liberty radio

EDITED TO CORRECT:

I’m not sure if I should laugh or cry hearing Sons of Liberty Radio, hosts Bradlee Dean and Jake McMillan from last week. Among their jaundiced claims are that gay people are responsible for half of all murders committed in large US cities, among other crimes.

Don’t take my word for it. Save your souls. Listen to this yourself so I’m not accused of misquoting:

Snarkatude, cynicism, sarcasm—they’re all part of my arsenal in handling things that seem so outrageous. I’m faced with great alarm when radio outlaws promote violence and retribution. I’m pretty calloused when it comes to right-wing stories and opinions. Anger is something that takes a little more motivation.

Well, I’ve got anger right now.

There’s way too much discrimination and distrust going on within all communities. To propagate such hatred with lies and fabrications is nothing new – for haters. But how is it we can give a forum to such zealots? The answer sadly is they have an audience. People who eat this crap up for lunch and poop it out to their friends and neighbors post-dinner.

The best way to show your displeasure with these hate-mongers is to find out who sponsors their shows – then avoid those products. Advertising money is how these programs succeed. So I visited the Right Wing Watch to see who sponsors them. And here’s the interesting part. There are no sponsors. None listed, that is. So they are deep-pocketed by alternative means.

That most likely is the 501-c at work -- maybe Mr. Issa should look into this.

AUTHOR'S NOTE: Thanks to @Pattibbs for the correction on this post. DG

Inspiration Comes In All Sizes and Ages

FacebookTwitterRedditDiggStumbleUponTumblrLinkedInPinterestEmailShare

The following clip from the Ellen show should be mandatory viewing.  It's not the issue, its the message that we can't just sit idly by expecting someone else to do the heavy lifting.  You don't only speak when spoken to.  And children should be seen, not heard is ridiculous.  No matter your age,  speak up and out for justice, humanity and protecting the innocent.  Watch this and you'll understand.
