"God-- I Love The Guy But The Fan Clubs Freak Me Out"

Atheist

What happens when you have a debate between an Atheist, and a Christian? You get fireworks, a surprising argument and some wide-eyed discussion. Oh, and believe it or not, lots of laughs.

One of the points brought up by John Fugelsang, representing the Christian point of view, is his own background. He describes his family this way, "my mother was an ex-nun and my father was a Franciscan brother.

I'm the whitest guy in this room but you could say my mother was a Sister and my father was a Brother.

That's religion for you. It makes for some pretty strange bedfellows.

Fugelsang argues that those who hold the bible so dear to themselves would have trouble these days with electing Jesus for public office. After all, he was:

...a socialist. peaceful, radical non-violent revolutionary, hung out with lepers, hookers and crooks, never spoke English, wasn't an American citizen, was anti-wealth, anti-death penalty, anti-public prayer (Matthew 6:5) never anti-gay, never anti-abortion, never anti-premarital sex, long haired, brown skinned and a Jew.

And that's the Christian making that argument. Does make you pause.

On the Agnostic side, you get Jamie Kilstein who explains his disappointment with creationism by referring to how the majestic beauty of Niagara Falls wasn't part of the God's original plan. Sort of an afterthought.

So for sure you'll be entertained and enlightened with this humorous debate. You don't have to agree or disagree with either side -- but listening to it is fun. At least I hope you find it so.

VIDEO: DCCC ad campaign slams GOP supporters of Paul Ryan budget. Happy April Republicans' Day!

ryan budget benefits richryan budget hurt a littleryan budget plan gop fail

“Help the rich get richer. Soak the middle class and seniors."

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) is launching online ads that slam 17 GOP lawmakers for supporting and voting for Paul Ryan’s insane budget. How insane? Via the wonderful Heather at C and L:

Rep. Alan Grayson: Paul Ryan wants sick poor people to die. This is why Grayson was elected... again. He sticks up for the 99% and has no qualms about being blunt about it.

Via The Hill:

Republicans say this budget is the best way to communicate their ‘governing philosophy,’ so we’re telling the people what that means: more for millionaires and corporate special interests, less for the middle class and seniors,” DCCC spokesperson Emily Bittner said in a statement. “That might be the Republican Congress’ governing philosophy – but it certainly isn’t the right philosophy for America’s middle class.

Catering to their wealthy corporate buddies and trying to kill Medicare are what sank the GOP previously, so of course, they're repeating the effort, and then some. All those claims of an Extreme Makeover (extremist makeover?) and showing how much they "care" about us are just words on paper that they have been ordered to read. They say 'em but they sure don't believe 'em. They need votes.

Maybe it was all one big April Fools joke, like the party itself.

How’s that reachy-outy thing workin’ for ya, GOP?

extreme makeover my assKudos to the DCCC for drawing attention to the 2014 elections rather than speculating about a Hillary Clinton presidential run. Happy April Republicans' Day!

VIDEO: Teen activist Zack Kopplin to John Fugelsang: Tax money is paying for creationism lessons in schools

creationism

My now-nineteen-year-old Louisiana pal Zack Kopplin is still fighting creationism law, and yes, Zack is one remarkable teen. Our previous posts by and about Zack here. His mission is to just say NO to creationist vouchers. Well, not just say no, he's an activist after all.

In fact, he has now become a leader in the fight to repeal the Louisiana Science Education Act, which allows creationism to be taught in public schools. Here he is on Current talking to our pal John Fugelsang:

Kudos Zack!

Zack:

"This isn't just Louisiana any more."

“I’ve exposed that there are 19, 20 schools in Louisiana — at least, if not more — who are teaching creationism and receiving public money."

Hence, this post.
