Sen. Grassley's Staff Gets Nabbed In His Own Investigation

Share

The SEC lawsuit alleges that the House staffer, Brian Sutter, spoke with a lobbyist -- identified by the Journal as Mark Hayes - - who happens to be a former aide to Grassley -- on the day of the leak.

Oopsy. Looks like Grassley not only found his leaker, the dude worked for him. Now Grassley may have to recuse himself from the hearings because he himself might be called as a witness, or even more concerning, as a part of the insider trading conspiracy scandal itself.

Here we go, another full-on assault by Darrrell Issa, BSer In Chief, a rabidly fixated man suffering from Hyperventilitis Uninterruptus in search of a scandal. A hypocritical, lying camera-hog who is escorting a rabidly fixated gang on a desperate hunt for grounds to impeach President Obama. Somehow. Somewhere. Anywhere, dammit. Watch out, IRS, you're back in the exploitation hot seat.

From everything that's been reported, there may indeed be problems with the agency, but the IRS witch hunt is unlikely to lead back to the White House. So much for that wet dream.

I ran across some of the contradictory news on the topic, starting with a Los Angeles Times editorial that included this sentence:

But rather than addressing that issue systematically, the IRS gave extra scrutiny mainly to tea party groups, often in inappropriate ways, an inspector general reported.

But back in April 2014, there was this Think Progress headline :

New Records: IRS Targeted Progressive Groups More Extensively Than Tea Party

L.A. Times, your thoughts?

failure to communicate

Speaking of the Times, here is an interesting tidbit that they reported in an IRS Scandal for Dummeez article:

So wasn’t there a backup?

There was, but the backup tapes were recycled after six months, Koskinen said, and the agency didn’t try to recover Lerner’s emails from the tapes at the time. Budget cuts left the IRS with aging computer systems that limited the size of employees' inboxes and lacked the capability to archive everybody’s emails, he said. The agency decided it couldn’t afford the estimated $10 million it would cost to upgrade the system, he added.

Apparently, the GOP obsession with austerity bit the obsessed GOP in their obsessed GOP ass. Yes, Republicans, budget cuts-- the ones you insist upon and covet so very much and so very LOUDLY-- were a factor in the Big IRS Scandal Version Something.0 that you may very well have helped to create.

Give yourselves a big pat on the back, Team Issa. Then go back to doing what you always do:

Memo to Issa: IRS targeted Progressive groups more than Tea Party, per records

real IRS scandal

Clearly, President Obama cooked the books in Benghazi while taking over the world with Obamacare in order to produce a new report that makes Darrell Issa look like the lying fool he is regarding the IRS "scandal." Why allow facts to get in the way of a good smear, right Dar?

Speaking of facts, Think Progress is reporting that Progressive groups got more scrutiny from the IRS than did those associated with the Tea Party. Are we surprised? No, we are not.

A series of IRS documents, provided to ThinkProgress under the Freedom of Information Act, appears to contradict the claims by Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) and his House Oversight and Government Reform Committee that only Tea Party organizations applying for tax-exempt status “received systematic scrutiny because of their political beliefs.” The 22 “Be On the Look Out” keywords lists, distributed to staff reviewing applications between August 12, 2010 and April 19, 2013, included more explicit references to progressive groups, ACORN successors, and medical marijuana organizations than to Tea Party entities. [...]

[T]he actual IRS records indicate that at least some additional scrutiny was required for groups of all types that had names that sounded political — and that the explicit heightened scrutiny for left-leaning groups was even longer-standing than for Tea Party groups.

Oops. Sucks to be you, Dar. Even on a good day.

chart who the IRS really targeted

Issa has been proven wrong so many times, you'd think they'd come up with a FUBAR Award to commemorate his laughably pathetic achievements. Let's take a stroll down Memory Lane to remind of us of a few of his worst offenses:

-- Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) stated what many of us have been thinking about Darrell Issa

--Oops! Dems accuse Darrell Issa of leaking misinformation about #Obamacare

--Top Democrats rip Darrell Issa after his document dump endangered Libyans working with U.S., damaged U.S. efforts.

Issa's futile witch hunts-- including sniffing and digging and snooping around Fast and Furious, Solyndra, Benghazi, The Affordable Care Act, and the IRS-- have led straight to nowhere. And they've wasted time, energy, and taxpayer money. He self-servingly leaks partial transcripts only to be called out by his fellow Congress members (when he allows them to speak, that is), and he continues to embarrass himself and what's left of his party.

Time to vote this guy out, California's 49th.

Issa Gets His Ass Handed To Him

Pompous, self-important and arrogant. Oh, I'm sorry. I was just musing at the picture above of Darrell Issa, the GOP scandal monger who chairs what used to be a respected position as chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. Now it's the House Rumor and Innuendo Committee Starring Darrell Issa.

Once again today, Issa called in a hostile witness in the IRS scandal hearings that over the past year have yielded zero instances of law breaking, bias or even bending. If anything they have served to prove in substantiated, fully vetted evidence, the fact that the IRS acted more judgmentally against liberal causes than conservative ones.

But here we are again today. Talking Points Memo:

Issa had summoned former IRS director Lois Lerner before the Congressional committee. Lerner pleaded the Fifth Amendment, declining to comment for the investigation, which has dragged on for months, in spite of a complete lack of evidence to indicate that conservative groups were being targeted by the tax agency.

With her simple plea of her constitutionally guaranteed privilege, Ms. Lerner took the 5th. Issa then took it on himself to bang the gavel to close the hearings, determining unilaterally that he could see no purpose in continuing.

Elijah Cummings

Whoops. Darrell done loosed the fateful lightning of Cummings terrible swift sword, shouting:

“I am a member of the Congress of the United States of America! I am tired of this,” he said. “You cannot just have a one-sided investigation. There is absolutely something wrong with that and it is absolutely un-American.”

Cummings went on to say that over the course of the last year, the investigation has squandered more than $14 million and “we have found no evidence to support allegations of a political conspiracy against conservative groups.”

And Cummings didn't stop there. He gave Chairman Issa a lashing the likes of which haven't been seen since Patsy was beaten nearly to death in 12 Years A Slave. Don't take my word for it... this is pure entertainment.

And stay to the end. You won't want to miss the punchline added by an off-camera  House member on the committee. Add this to your priceless list.
