On November 18th, some conservative students in Scotland (!) burned President Obama in effigy at a beach bonfire, but hey, they’re sorry, reports The Hill, or so they say:
Students at St Andrews University in Scotland will reportedly write a letter of apology to President Obama after an incident last week in which they burned him in effigy. [...]
“The U.S. and President Obama are important allies of the United Kingdom and, on behalf of the whole association, I apologize unreservedly,” [Matthew Marshall, president of St Andrews Conservative and Unionist Association] said, as reported by The Telegraph.
“This is undoubtedly a stupid act and it is deeply regretted by all of us in the St Andrews Conservative Association,” Marshall added. “I will make sure this never happens again.”
A University spokesman said, “The burning of any figure in effigy is an act of violence and intolerance and has no place in our modern, international university.”
Ya think?
In an odd statement, St Andrews also said that they were not intentionally racist. How is one unintentionally racist? “Oh drat, how’d that effigy get there? My word! It resembles Barack Obama! How EVER did that happen? Oh dear, is he black? We hadn’t noticed!”
These aren’t small children who are too young to know that their words and actions could be hurtful or unacceptable, these are university students who went out of their way to burn. The United States president. In. Effigy.
“I will make sure this never happens again.” It should never have happened in the first place.
Randall Terry is such a rib tickler, just the kind of chap you’d want to bring home to sinner, er, dinner. He’s always up to something, that little scamp and his wacky crazy antics. Why, it seems like only yesterday when he had his Pelosi/Reid Burn in Hell contest:

Not only that, he’ll “apparently make his formal announcement Thursday, in front of the Holocaust Museum in D.C.”! Bring the kids!
If you happened to be wondering whether or not President Barack Obama would get a primary challenge in 2012, wonder no more! For today it has been announced that Operation Rescue founder and anti-abortion performance artist Randall Terry will run for president, as a Democrat, to challenge Obama. As Kevin Derby reports for the Sunshine State News:
“My constituency is the millions of pro-life advocates who want to make child-killing illegal from conception until birth,” said Terry on Tuesday. “My base is those who know that we must show Americans the victims of abortion, in order to restore the full protection of law to unborn babies.”

Terry himself is not bullish on his prospects, saying, “Will I defeat Mr. Obama? I’m not delusional.”
I beg to differ.

A bartender in Wisconsin is apparently under investigation by the Secret Service for burning a statue of Obama in effigy…in front of a cheering crowd.
Of course, Rand Paul would just call this freedom of speech for small businesses.

What a wholesome bunch the Tea Tantrumers are! Why, it’s just as my friend said a post or two ago. Here’s one more example of their compassionate, all-American, rah-rah inclusiveness:
In a move sure to spark controversy, the Danville TEA Party will close their “Fired Up for Freedom” rally by burning Rep. Tom Perriello and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in effigy in response to the passage of landmark healthcare legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives. [...]Danville TEA Party Chairman Nigel Coleman said, “We were outraged to find that Tom Perriello had voted in favor of this bill. I was with dozens of 5th District voters in his office two days before the vote and we pleaded with him to stand with us against the Pelosi plan.”
“At this point we feel we have no representation in Congress. It disturbs me to find out that Perriello literally received a pat on the back from Nancy Pelosi before going to the House floor to vote.”
And what healthier, more constructive, democratic way to express that than hanging fellow citizens in effigy? Let’s everyone get our families together– moms, dads, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, grandparents, tots– and have a good old fashioned lynching next time! You know, for when effigies just aren’t enough…
