From CNN and via Talking Points Memo

Fresh off his reporting assignment in Ferguson, Mo., CNN anchor Don Lemon said Tuesday that one of his producers heard a member of the National Guard using a racial epithet while serving in the troubled St. Louis suburb.

While hosting a town hall called "Black and White in America," Lemon was prompted to share an anecdote from his time in Ferguson, where the Missouri National Guard was deployed earlier this week to quell the violent protests that have erupted since the fatal police shooting of unarmed black 18-year-old Michael Brown.

"I’m just going to be honest with you," said Lemon, who is black. "Last night, one of my producers said that they — I won’t say if it’s a he or she because I don’t want to give anyone away — said they came in contact with one of the members of the National Guard and that they said, ‘You want to get out of here because you’re white because these n-words, you never know what they’re going to do.’ True story. I kid you not. 2014, a member of the National Guard. And my producer doesn’t lie. It is a true story.”

The Daily Kos took it to the mat, as well, they are so committed to the truth and actually (checked) facts.

And got some incredible footage.

Officer 'Go Fuck Yourself' got a tad out of hand. Meaning part inane part racist, and in possession of military=style weaponry. I spent a couple months in the USSR in my salad days, and it looked an awful like Ferguson at present.

If we needed proof that SOME egregiously bad apple cops are on the streets, gun fondling, here 'ya go … from Newsmax, and addressing the details of the beheading of veteran journalist Jim Foley.

A man identified as James Foley, his head shaven and dressed in an orange outfit similar to uniforms worn by prisoners at the U.S. military detention camp in Guantánamo, Cuba, is seen kneeling in the desert next to a man standing, holding a knife and clad head to toe in black.

"I call on my friends, family and loved ones to rise up against my real killers, the U.S. government, for what will happen to me is only a result of their complacency and criminality," the kneeling man says.

The man next to him, in a black mask, speaks in a British accent and says, "This is James Wright Foley, an American citizen, of your country. As a government, you have been at the forefront of the aggression towards the Islamic State."

Courtesy Indy Cruz, father-of Mike Brown brown-killed by Ferguson police

Courtesy of Santa Cruze IndeyMedia , depicting the father- of  Mike Browm; still mourning  the loss of his son , killed by Ferguson police

Following his statement he beheads the kneeling man. At the end of the video, words on the side of the screen say, "Steven Joel Sotloff", as another prisoner in an orange jumpsuit is shown on screen. "The life of this American citizen, Obama, depends on your next decision," the masked man says.

We have GOT to get it together here, people … the gun fondlers are now killing with confidence, and I didn't read that in any part of the Constitution.

Two shows, two reviews, two painful reminders

FacebookTwitterRedditDiggStumbleUponTumblrLinkedInPinterestEmailShare

changes smaller reviews

When I opened my morning paper, I came across two separate reviews of two very different shows: one live at the Hollywood Bowl ("Hair") and one a three-camera situation comedy on the Tee Vee Machine ("Partners"). It was striking that included in each of the reviews was a reminder of the sad state of affairs in this world. Maybe they should have reviewed "post racial America" and tragedies of war.

I was an usher at the original production of "Hair" at the Ivar Theater in Hollywood (godI'mold), and was completely and utterly swept away by that production. Anti-war protests were everywhere, bell bottom jeans were coming into fashion, and long-haired, pot-smoking, peace-loving hippies were a gentle, emerging force to reckon with. I wanted to be a part of the show, live the show, not seat audience members. It was a magical time, but also a scary one. I wore one of these proudly:

war is not healthy for children and other living things

Another focus of what seemed like perpetual protests was civil rights. One day, we dreamed, one day there would be equal rights for everyone regardless of color. In our idealistic vision, making a film like "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?" would be a quaint period piece, not an expression of growing pains and hope or a demand for change.

guess who's coming to dinner

Those were the days, right? Sadly, those are still the days, right now as we speak.

Via L.A. Times theater critic Charles McNulty reviewing the '60s rock musical "Hair":

I worried that this co-opting of the 1960s — a criticism leveled at the musical at least since its Broadway premiere in 1968 — might be depriving a new generation of theatergoers the chance to connect to a radicalism that our own war-torn age could badly use. But the musical's tragic ending laid its punch. "Hair" is fun-loving but also serious-minded. I left humming "Let the Sunshine In" but also wondering how I could make a difference in a world once again going up in flames.

israel hamas warVia NBC

Via L.A. Times TV critic Robert Lloyd reviewing the premier of a new sit-com starring Kelsey Grammer and Martin Lawrence, "Partners":

A black actor and a white actor splitting top billing in a sitcom is enough of a rarity to be noted approvingly. And there are moments that suggest that the stars will find their footing. But for the nonce they're playing attitudes more than characters, and at times they seem to be in the same show only by virtue of sharing the shot.

end racism- hands

Splitting top billing in a prime time half-hour comedy between a black actor and a white one should not be a Moment of Happy rarity. Especially in 2014. It should be the damned norm. Sigh.

Let the sunshine in.

Litigious John Boehner Believes in Unicorns and the GOP Revisionist Fairy

FacebookTwitterRedditDiggStumbleUponTumblrLinkedInPinterestEmailShare

owl

We were waiting for tears of outrage after John Bone-head Beohner went all in on a clear Congressional Conspiracy Theory … per usual, the Speaker went to the mic and the mat with the newest political trend of simple, bald-faced lying.

If only Andy Griffith's Aunt Bea could reincarnate and smack the nonsense out of these smarmy political losers.

Makes one lust for the relatively pastoral times before digital communication and social media, and before watching the country devolve into two fierce teams (nobody knows who finally won the libertarians in the custody battle) who increasingly want to kick the ever-loving-shite out of each other.

Reverend Al brought the irony home at the top of his show. And had a swell clip of President Obama's humorous stop in Kansas City earlier on Wednesday. It was a great counter-note from the sheeple stampede in Congress, with litigious intent.

Smells-Like-Bullshit_o_99704

We need far more women in politics. They are our only shot at actually getting things done, at all levels. And nudging out existing Congressional Regressive Right asshats like Boehner.

Pardonnez le Chuck Todd, but occasionally someone we truly want to know better is a guest, sort of a reward for tuning in to morning messnbc.

This week alone has been one fruitful news garden including his segment with the Lady Sitting Senator from Wisconsin, openly gay and proud. Also delighted to have been a part of the twenty women Senate 'glut' of women in politics.

Some glass ceilings were seriously head-butted by Sen. Baldwin, who outstandingly claimed the dual honors of serving as the first openly gay senator and the first female Wisconsin senator. EVER.

nononononoandno

Binders full of women, the GOP binders, which presumably would be in the custody Speaker would assuredly not have given her even a page. And she hasn't even expressed herself fully, being a frosh Senator.

It's a lucky thing we women rule at consensus. And being loud.

It's an absurdly long haul to some of the Lipton Brigade's more blatantly deaf volunteers.

And you heard the president say, "Don't boooo -- Vote!
