Thank you to my pal @Anomaly100 who has given us permission to cross-post this horrific story. She has it up at FreakOutNation.
Yet another unnecessary tragedy involving guns and a shooter who has no business owning one:
Donald Maiden Jr. just celebrated his 8th birthday and now he’s in the hospital in critical condition after a 46 year-old Dallas, Texas man shot him in the face.
Brian Cloninger was charged with injury to a child and remains in the Dallas County jail on a $2.2 million bond.
Witnesses say they asked him, after seeing him standing around his truck as the boy was bleeding, if he shot the boy. “Yes I shot that kid,” Cloninger reportedly said. The motive is unknown and the mother says he was shot ‘out of the blue.’
The boy’s mother, Latamarin Locklin, told a CBS 11 reporter on Thursday, “When he ran in I just screamed. His mouth was just hanging off and it was just a big hole – I just threw him on the couch and laid him in my arms and put pressure on his mouth with the towel.”
According to Dallas police, Maiden remains in critical but stable condition after undergoing surgery at Children’s Medical Center Dallas.
Donald Maiden, Sr. said, “When I first saw him in ICU I started crying. I just put my head down in his bed and was holding his hand at the same time. And he opened his eyes. And when I raised back up I looked and there were tears rolling down his eyes and it gave me a little bit of spirit in my heart. It was joy, I guess he was kind of happy to know I was there. “
Some things speak for themselves. This video has heart, is about heart and shows heart. It's nice to feel good, and this clip will surely make you feel that. When you see how people can overcome loss, grief and their own impending fatality, you know that whatever is greeting you today, could be worse. So enjoy living better.
A choice to donate your organs when your time comes can be a beautiful thing, allowing you to live on in others. Being on a waiting list myself for a vital organ, I can tell you how wonderful it is when you see someone become a recipient. Life is good. Share it.

Today President Obama kicked off a two-day "Betting On America" bus tour through northern Ohio and western Pennsylvania. Today the bus tour is stopping in Maumee, Sandusky and Parma, Ohio, and tomorrow he'll be in Poland, Ohio and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Okay, can we tawk? Between the adorable exchange above and the heartfelt image of President Obama consoling a very grateful supporter, can anyone seriously compare the connection this president has to voters to the MittBot's forced smiles, fake laughs, and gaping void where real emotion should be?
