"It's only illegal when 'illegal immigrants' break the law": Deadbeat cattle rancher militia

FacebookTwitterRedditDiggStumbleUponTumblrLinkedInPinterestEmailShare

illegal-immigrants

A major advantage of having a Twitter pal like the wonderful Lalo Alcaraz (@LaloAlcaraz) is that he occasionally generously shares his work with us. In his comic strip today, Lalo zeroed in on "deadbeat cattle rancher militias" who "hate illegal immigrants."

Or to put it another way, Cliven Bundy and His Merry Band O' Bigots.

David Horsey nailed it in the Los Angeles Times:

Bundy hops on his horse and parades around carrying the flag of the government he says he doesn’t believe in. He boasts that he is just like one of the founding fathers. He apparently has not figured out that most of his countrymen are starting to see him as a deadbeat who, for 20 years, has fed his cattle for free on land that doesn’t belong to him — land that, in law and in fact, belongs to the people of the United States.

Scofflaws like Bundy and his supporters justify their law-breaking by claiming they don't believe in the U.S. government (as they sponge off of it and flag-wave), but if "illegal immigrants" try to make it here, pay taxes, and fight our wars, all bets are off.

Take it away, Lalo:

Cartoon Cliven Bundy: "In MY America, one man's delusion is another man's dream!"

David Horsey nailed it in his Los Angeles Times article and political cartoon, both calling out crackpot racist Cliven Bundy for what he is: delusional:

Bundy hops on his horse and parades around carrying the flag of the government he says he doesn’t believe in. He boasts that he is just like one of the founding fathers. He apparently has not figured out that most of his countrymen are starting to see him as a deadbeat who, for 20 years, has fed his cattle for free on land that doesn’t belong to him — land that, in law and in fact, belongs to the people of the United States.

In an earlier post, Cliven Bundy said that his 'Negro' remarks were totally not racist.

Oh.

Our bad.

Kidding.

Here's what he had to say this morning on CNN:

Wow. Really? He's now the Official Martin Luther King historian and spokesperson? About Rosa Parks?

The scary thing is, Cliven Bundy is just the tip of a very ugly, very ugly conservative iceberg. Via the Southern Poverty Law Center:

Jon Stewart had a thing or two to say about this "hero on the right" who wanted to "keep his cows on welfare":

Jon Stewart:

"He's also apparently a professor of Negro studies...

...at Duke University....DAVID Duke University."

He's all yours, GOP. You can try to run away from your adulation of this horror story of a being, but all your public smooches were recorded for all to see, documented forever. Good luck with that.

Cartoon o' the day: GOP Putin envy

FacebookTwitterRedditDiggStumbleUponTumblrLinkedInPinterestEmailShare

Putin envy Chris Hayes

If you suffer from Putin envy, you might be a Republican. In fact, you're most likely a member of the official GOP Chicken Hawk Coalition, one that should be quarantined stat and treated for any number of related Obama Derangement disorders. Caution: Putin envy can be contagious and is difficult to cure. Side effects include:

  • riding horses bare-chested in sub-zero weather
  • applauding aggression that threaten world peace
  • starting fraudulent wars with sovereign countries that never attacked us
  • resorting to voter suppression in order to win elections
  • Pavlovian frothing at the mouth when television cameras are turned on
  • chronic gerrymandering
  • calling reporters "idiots" and generally sidestepping their questions
  • annoyingly loud over-talking and hyperbole
  • demeaning women
  • demeaning the LGBT community
  • demeaning Latinos
  • demeaning African Americans
  • demeaning the first African American president
  • chronic obstruction
  • chronic hypocrisy
  • acquiring an inexplicable resemblance to dogs:

Via The Star Tribune, here is an excellent political cartoon by Steve Sack that addresses Putin envy and a few of its degenerate symptoms:

Cartoon of the Day: Squishy Democrats v the GOP advantage, 2014

FacebookTwitterRedditDiggStumbleUponTumblrLinkedInPinterestEmailShare

vote squishy Democrats gotv

If so-called squishy Democrats don't get their act together, then this country will be in a world of trouble. In a previous post, Our country is sick with the cancer of Conservatism. This may be your last warning, liberals, @Marnus3 approprtiately sounds a very timely alarm:

So this may be your last warning, liberals. Our country is sick with the cancer of Conservatism. Much has been lost in the time since 2008, when we felt so good about our health. But like cancer of the body, there is always hope when there is life. It is getting late, but it is not too late. Pay attention, educate yourself on the issues, do the same for your friends and neighbors. Tweet a tweet, warn your Facebook friends, volunteer for a liberal candidate, and most of all, vote this November. Vote like your life depends on it, because at this late stage of the disease, it does.

That's been my mantra, too, for some time now. If we fail to Get Out The Vote (GOTV) in November, the consequences will be dire, and even worse, lasting.

This tweet just showed up in my stream:

My answer: Gerrymandering and passion (not to mention voter suppression). Republicans, especially conservatives, have one talent that squishy Democrats and Progressives might want to adopt: Generating votes by triggering strong emotions (in the case of the GOP, fear) among their often-un/misinformed supporters. But in order to inspire voters, we need a strong, clear message that hits home.

However, and this is a huge "however," younger voters (along with everyone else) need to listen, and hear, that strong, clear message. After having taught teens and twentysomethings for well over a decade, I can assure you that this is a major challenge.

The pattern I noticed most was how driven and enthusiastic students could be when motivated... but that drive and enthusiasm was ephemeral. The second something else got their attention, off they'd go, leaving their good intentions in the dust:

In this post, I concentrated primarily on the youth vote.

Take a look at David Horsey's excellent L.A. Times cartoon below. Then please go here to read his accompanying article, "Latinos, single women, young voters: a squishy base for Democrats," in which he expands on the topic in more depth:
