Poll-itics: Jerry Brown, Barbara Boxer leading in polls; Brown's lead doubles

Dem-mentum!

Meg Whitman's handling of housekeeper scandal and record-breaking spending have cost her support among women, Latinos and independents. Barbara Boxer maintains an 8-point lead over Carly Fiorina. [...]

Brown, the Democratic attorney general and former governor, led Whitman 52% to 39% among likely voters, the poll found. His advantage has more than doubled since a Times/USC poll in September.

The abrupt movement in the race for governor came as Democratic incumbent Barbara Boxer held onto her 8-point margin over Republican Carly Fiorina in the U.S. Senate contest. Boxer's 50% to 42% lead was statistically unchanged from September's 51% to 43% edge.

Both are at the 50%+ mark. That's a big deal.

VIDEO: Carly Fiorina "shipped our jobs to China & India... We even had to train our replacements"

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce hearts Carly Fiorina. With a passion.

Just uttering the word "outsourcing" is enough to arouse their corporate libidos for weeks. (If donations persist for more than four hours, call your doctor)

Barbara Boxer is the only sane choice. Period.

Whitman, Fiorina no-shows at California Palin rally

Please note: I will be unavailable to post most of the day. Be kind to Paddy, who will be holding down the fort. Send food.

However, before I take off, I have to pop in with one piece about Former Half-Gov Screechy McNailsOnBlackboard's little tirade in Orange County, California yesterday.

It sounded a little something like this:

Tsiowjlkgfsvoeldfklgfkfkljfdhqupikj!!!!!!

It was the typical word salad, full of snide, nasty attitude intended to rile up an already angry conservative electorate. She proudly displayed her usual startling lack of connection to reality:

Palin mocked Fiorina's rival, Sen. Barbara Boxer, as overly concerned about a small endangered fish whose protections have restricted water flowing to farmers in the Central Valley.

"Now where I come from, we call a 2-inch fish, we call that bait," she said.

Shades of her pit bull line. By this time, one might expect some original new material.

But there was something else lacking from her garbled, run-on onslaught of rah-rah gibberish. Or rather someone. Make that two someones:

Whitman and Fiorina cited scheduling conflicts as the reason they could not attend. [...]

[T]he candidates also had political rationales for avoiding a joint appearance. A recent Field poll showed that nearly two-thirds of independent voters in California view Palin unfavorably — and Republicans here need the support of independents to overcome Democrats' double-digit voter registration edge. [...]

For days, [Whitman] has sidestepped questions about Palin.

Asked Saturday if Palin's support was a positive, Whitman replied, "I want everyone on my side."

When asked Friday if Palin, who is believed to be mulling a 2012 White House run, was qualified to be president, Whitman offered a tepid response.

"Technically, she's qualified to be president because you have to be a U.S. citizen and be in good standing, " she said.

While Whitman's distance from Palin reflects the more moderate road she has taken, Fiorina's avoidance is a marked contrast from the primary, when she welcomed Palin's help.

"I want everyone on my side."

"Technically" Screechy is "qualified" because she's a U.S. citizen. (Anyone seen her birth certificate?)

Can't get a more enthusiastic endorsement than that.

Wow.

Now where I come from, we call sidestepping questions about a fellow Republican, we call that epic Palin fail.
