scandal scandalous

Republicans are positively out of control these days, aren't they? Why, it's almost as if GOP scandals are everywhere! That's because they are everywhere; if it's not one corrupt politician, it's another.

Here's a visual guide to some of the most recent culprits. Think of it as a pictorial road map that's so easy to follow, even a right wing nut job could understand it. And if I omitted any other obvious GOP Moments o' Disgrace that broke over the past couple of years or are currently rearing their ugly heads, please let me know. I'm still not myself yet, so the ol' brain is barely functioning:

John Ensign: Sex, Lies and His "C Street" Family

FacebookTwitterRedditDiggStumbleUponTumblrLinkedInPinterestEmailShare

Your daily dose of BuzzFlash at Truthout, via my pal Mark Karlin:

[T]here has been rather understated corporate media discussion of the role of the "C Street" family in the infamous sexual activities of Ensign. [...]

But as information emerged awhile back about the ongoing sexual relationship - amid charges of payoffs and other ethical violations and illegalities - evidence also strongly suggested the role of Ensign's "C Street" "Christian colleagues" in helping him cover up the affair.

Most notably, arch-conservative and "family values" "C Street" resident Oklahoma Sen. Tom Coburn... and then Rick Santorum...

Other members of the "C Street" house that is part of the cult known as "The Family" also played roles in covering up the Ensign sexual scandal. Included in this group were the sons of Douglas Coe, the guru founder of "The Family."

When those in power who belong to "The Family" believe that they have a divine mandate to lead the masses, it apparently gives them a license to participate in a cover-up of what appears to be, according to the Senate Ethics Committee, both illegal and unethical behavior of the most "disturbing" kind. [...]

Along with Ensign's hideous actions, we should not forget the sex, lies and alleged accomplices in the "C Street" family.

Please read the whole thing here.

Bart Stupak moves to K Street

Bart Stupak: From C Street to K Street.

Remember this?

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Maybe he just has a thing for letters with a hard "k" sound, as in "corporate".

Via Roll Call:

Former Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) is heading to K Street. The nine-term Member will be a partner in the legislative and government affairs group of Venable, the firm announced Monday. [...]

“We are thrilled to welcome Congressman Stupak to our government affairs group,” said Venable managing partner Karl Racine in a press release announcing the hire. “Bart is known as a truly bipartisan leader who not only knows the legislative process, but who took the time to understand critical issues that affect all of us.”

Yeah right, being avidly pro-forced birth is so very bipartisan:

  • Voted NO on expanding research to more embryonic stem cell lines. (Jan 2007)
  • Voted NO on allowing human embryonic stem cell research. (May 2005)
  • Voted YES on restricting interstate transport of minors to get abortions. (Apr 2005)
  • Voted YES on making it a crime to harm a fetus during another crime. (Feb 2004)
  • Voted YES on banning partial-birth abortion except to save mother’s life. (Oct 2003)
  • Voted YES on forbidding human cloning for reproduction & medical research. (Feb 2003)
  • Voted YES on funding for health providers who don't provide abortion info. (Sep 2002)
  • Voted YES on banning Family Planning funding in US aid abroad. (May 2001)
  • Voted YES on federal crime to harm fetus while committing other crimes. (Apr 2001)
  • Voted YES on banning partial-birth abortions. (Apr 2000)
  • Voted YES on barring transporting minors to get an abortion. (Jun 1999)
  • Rated 0% by NARAL, indicating a pro-life voting record. (Dec 2003)
  • Rated 100% by the NRLC, indicating a pro-life stance. (Dec 2006)
  • Prohibit transporting minors across state lines for abortion. (Jan 2008)

But back to Venable. Venable... Why does that have a familiar ring to it?

More at the link.

From C to K. I hope he minds his Ps and Qs.

Tom Coburn: "Question that'll be asked about every 4 weeks...is anybody here having an affair?"

FacebookTwitterRedditDiggStumbleUponTumblrLinkedInPinterestEmailShare

You all remember C Street, don't you? If not, here's a refresher course courtesy of Rachel Maddow:

Note: Original video was pulled. I replaced it with this one.

"When you join this group you agree to give the other men in your prayer cell veto rights over your life."

I guess in the past, they failed to veto the extramarital affairs of the other residents. But that's all changing now... see?

Via Taegan:

The New Yorker runs an interesting piece on the "C Street house," the Capitol Hill townhouse where a group of Christian lawmakers live and pledge "to hold one another to a life lived by the principles of Jesus."

Despite a series of recent sex scandals by current and former residents -- Sen. John Ensign (R-NV) being the most recent -- Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) insists the "supper accountability session" will continue on Tuesday nights and "a question that'll be asked about every four weeks is, Is anybody here having an affair?"

Welcome to Jesus's frat house.

Mark Sanford avoids criminal charges following ethics investigation

FacebookTwitterRedditDiggStumbleUponTumblrLinkedInPinterestEmailShare

Mark the C Streeter skates after pleading no contest to ethics charges. However, I wonder what will eventually come of Rachel Maddow's investigations into the suspiciously low rent he paid to live there.

As for the Appalachian Trail hike trip to Argentina sexcapades, he's home free:

South Carolina's Attorney General has decided that Gov. Mark Sanford will not face criminal charges following an investigation into his travel and campaign expenses.

The A.G. said he didn't "knowingly, willfully, and intentionally set out to break state law". He did, however, knowingly, willfully, and intentionally set out to break his family member's hearts.

But on Monday, McMaster said the ethics violations did not rise to the level of criminal conduct. The law, he said, "requires a much higher standard before criminal prosecution is warranted."

This gave Sanford the opportunity to use the word "stalwart":

He said McMaster's decision reaffirms his belief that the Sanford administration has always "been a stalwart defender of the taxpayer. "

Said the man who could very well be residing in a building owned by a group that shouldn't have tax exempt status and treats their favorite members of Congress to cut rates.

Rep. Jerry Moran (R- KS): Allegations Of C Street Lower Rent Rates Are Attacks On My Faith

FacebookTwitterRedditDiggStumbleUponTumblrLinkedInPinterestEmailShare

By GottaLaff

Rachel Maddow has done incredible investigative work on the C Streeters getting a big break on how much rent they pay:

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Well! Someone has taken offense! Rep. Jerry Moran (Harrumph!-KS):

Rep. Jerry Moran (R- KS) is trying to turn charges that he's getting a break on his rent at C Street into attacks on his Christian faith. Seriously. [...]

[H]e told the Topeka Capitol-Journal that criticism of his cozy arrangement amounted to "a national effort to exclude matters of faith by public servants."

Moran continued: "I don't think that my interest in studying the Bible with other colleagues of mine in Congress ought to be seen as anything but good or at least personal -- whether you think it's good or bad it ought to be a decision I make as a member of Congress, as a human being."

Yes, that's right, it's all about discrimination against people of faith. Everyone is out to get them, poor little innocent things. Maybe the words "public servant" should be taken seriously by these guys.

Playing the victim card while you're paying a fraction of what you should be for renting upscale digs while sharing said space with a bunch of cheating, philandering "Christians" probably isn't the best way to go.

Especially when Rachel Maddow is watching.

Nope, not a good idea at all.

Investigation Shows Ensign Appealed to Company

FacebookTwitterRedditDiggStumbleUponTumblrLinkedInPinterestEmailShare

By GottaLaff

I have a feeling we know what Rachel Maddow will be talking about tonight:

Senator John Ensign sought financial backing for a troubled Nevada energy company in 2008, and at the same time he urged the company to hire his mistress’s husband, according to people involved in the matter.

At the request of the company, P2SA Equity, Mr. Ensign had two senior aides contact one of the nation’s largest oil pipeline businesses, Kinder Morgan, about forming a partnership, two executives associated with the project said.

And the sexcapades continue... When will it all end? Maybe when all the Rushpublics find new jobs at Voyeur.

Hey, let's play the Reminiscing Game! Remember when John Ensign had an affair? And remember Doug Hampton, his former top aide? And remember Dougie's wife, who had the affair with Ensign? And remember when Ensign lined up lobbying work for Mrs. Hampton's husband?

Me too.

Investigators appear to be looking into whether Mr. Ensign sought to ingratiate himself with P2SA so that he could ease Mr. Hampton out of his office in Washington.

Oh now that wouldn't be good. Not good at all.

The senator’s office said then that he had not provided any assistance to the company. But subsequent interviews showed that his most senior Senate aides intervened in an effort to prevent the Las Vegas business from going under, a fact that Mr. Ensign no longer disputes.

To fake-quote Ensign, "So?"

Here's so:

While the former aide never got work with P2SA, the interaction of Mr. Ensign and his staff with the company appears unusual, interviews with executives at the firm and a review of their e-mail messages showed.

And by unusual, they mean illegal.

Kinder Morgan decided not to partner up with P2SA. It wouldn't benefit them financially. Therefore, Hubby Hampton was not given a lobbying contract.

There are more details here.

Rachel's going to have a field day. C Street, watch your back. You're next.
