Fed Up: Special Comment by my 76-year-old friend

Share

fed up

My impassioned “72-year-old”  friend (who is now 76, but who’s counting?), who goes by the Twitter name @42bkdodgr, would like to share his feelings of frustration about the state of politics and our dysfunctional Congress. I am more than happy to oblige, especially because I feel the same way.

This rant reminds me of one I did awhile ago: We have no choice. It might be time to revive that one.

Now on to "Fed Up." But first, a personal note from 42bkdodgr:

Many of you may wonder why I chose to use the “72 year old friend” as the introduction to my Special Comments. I selected the moniker so readers could see that from my age and life experiences I give a different perspective to the issues of today.

Now for his Special Comment:

FED UP

Like most Americans, I'm FED UP with the dysfunctional government we have.

I'm FED UP that there is a segment within the Republican caucus that refuses to compromise.

I'm FED UP that Republicans have more loyalty to a pledge they signed with Grover Norquist, to never raise taxes, forgetting the oath they took when sworn into office.

I'm FED UP that Republicans in Congress would rather spend government funds on phony investigations than pass a jobs and infrastructure bill, that would create jobs for millions of people, which would move our economy forward.

I'm FED UP with all the hate and racism that exists in our country.

I'm FED UP that the leaders of the Republican Tea Party don't denounce the use of racist remarks, hateful signs and pictures, displays of the Confederate Flag at rallies they attend in Washington D.C. and in their home states.

I'm FED UP with the disrespect shown President Obama and the office he holds. This has been going on since Joe Wilson yelled "You lie!" during a speech President Obama was giving to a joint session of Congress.

I'm FED UP that, after five years, there are still Americans who don't consider President Obama an American citizen or a Christian.

I'm FED UP with a party that lost a national election in 2012, that tries to use a government shut down and threat of default on national debt to force their ideology on Americans-- which the people had rejected-- and in the process, cost the country $24 billion.

I'm FED UP that a political party felt shutting down the government was a good thing, and brags about it and is threatening to try it again in 2014.

I'm FED UP that there are members in Congress who got elected with the sole intent of destroying the government.

I'm FED UP that the Republican Party is trying to defund and kill the Affordable Care Act, knowing full well it can't be done, in the process wasting more government funds.

I'm FED UP with members of Congress willing to cut funds that help those Americans in need while continuing to provide subsidies to farmers and oil companies, plus they refuse to close tax loop holes that benefit the rich.

I'm FED UP that states have or will enact laws to suppress the voting rights of Americans, when voter fraud doesn't exist in the country.

I'm FED UP that states have passed laws that don't allow women to control their own bodies.

I'm FED UP that the Evangelical Christians wanting to impose their religious ideology on all Americans and want to bring down the wall separating church and state.

I will continue to be FED UP, until these issues are addressed, or we will remain an extremely divided country pulling in different directions.

It's sad thing to say, but we are becoming a government, that unless one party controls Congress and the presidency, the chances of any important legislation getting done is almost nil.

That why it is extremely important for Democrats to vote in 2014 if we want to retain control of the Senate and possibly gain control of the House. Americans better begin to wake up and learn; the foundation of our democracy is being threatened by the radical right and it must be addressed.

Many thanks again for another thorough, relevant piece, @42bkdodgr. You often say what many of us are thinking and feeling, and we thank you for your unique perspective.

VIDEO- N. Carolina GOP lawmaker: Obama not a traitor because he hasn't "done one thing to harm Kenya."

Pittman No. Carolina racist Obama kenya

North Carolina GOP state Rep. Larry Pittman is a real card. What a comedian. He's a regular Laugh. Riot! Italicized!

No, I'll do you one better: He oughta get his very own late night talk show... so we can turn him off.

Here's what he told his supporters at a town hall meeting in Concord, via Taegan. Equally disturbing: the crowd laughed:

Someone had posted something with a picture of Barack Obama and across it said "traitor." And, you know, I don't always agree with the guy, I certainly didn't vote for him but I gotta defend him on this one.

I just don't think it's right at all to call Barack Obama a traitor. There's a lot of things he's done wrong but he is not a traitor. Not as far as I can tell. I haven't come across any evidence yet that he has done one thing to harm Kenya.

not funny hahaha no

Rafael Cruz Could Be Doing Time In The Big House, Not The White House

Share

ted-cruz-story-graphic-cropped-proto-custom_28 (1)

Ted Cruz has made no secret about his land of birth -- Canada. Well, he hasn't kept it a secret lately.

A few weeks back, he released his Canadian birth certificate.  He was born to dual-citizenship, something he knew from childhood. Something he repressed for years, and even thought that closing his eyes would make it go away. But his land of birth really isn't what makes his character. How he acts and what he does is the way to judge a (wo)man.

My problems are with his politics, not his citizenship. Character is the important issue.

So why has he not only hidden the fact that he has dual citizenship with Canada, but he's committed perjury while doing so? It seems that Rafael 'Ted' Cruz has lied on US federal forms. That's a federal crime, BTW.

Prior to entering the Senate, Cruz had a legal career that included stints as the director of the Federal Trade Commission’s Office of Policy Planning and as an associate deputy attorney general in the Justice Department. Both government department's applications include questions about an individual's background.

TALKING POINTS MEMO:

Peter Kaplan, a spokesperson for the FTC, told TPM on Tuesday that the heads of offices at the agency undergo background checks through the Office of Personnel Management. The OPM has standard forms they use “government-wide for various employment and benefits program purposes.” On the OPM’s list of standard forms there are three questionnaires for jobs of various sensitivity; “national security positions,” “public trust positions,” and “non-sensitive positions.” All three of these questionnaires contain detailed sections on citizenship that ask applicants their “place of birth” and whether they have ever held “dual citizenship.”

Archived versions of the OPM website show these questions were included on all three questionnaires when Cruz first worked at the DOJ in 2001 and when he moved to the FTC later that year.

It seems that calls to Senator Cruz' office have not been returned requesting a comment on this. He has stated publicly a few weeks ago that he was going to renounce his Canadian citizenship which could take 8 months to complete. So this becomes a fun game of
"What did he know and when did he know it."

If Rafeal is to be taken at his word that he only recently found out that he was a dual citizen, this Harvard educated lawyer must be quite a simpleton. He would have and should have known just by being born in Canada that he was part Canadian by birth. To have gone all these years and not looked into it? I find that hard to believe. This man is known for being detail orientated -- impressive in his appearances as a lawyer in front of the U.S. Supreme Court. Usually sidewalk shysters don't get to Washington to plead cases in front of SCOTUS.

So, either Rafael Cruz is: A - lying, B - stupid, C - eats Wheaties for breakfast,  or D - all of the above. Though I'd like to go with D, I have a feeling that Raffy's been planning this presidential move for a while and he's just gotten caught with his pants down -- leaving A as the most likely answer.

Federal Prisons

Oh, if he did lie, it's a federal crime. He might be looking at 4 -8 years, but in the 'big house', not the White House.

VIDEO: Ted Cruz fan thinks "Canada is not really foreign soil." Then neither is Mexico. Welcome in, amigos!

Share

priceless

Our own Lucian (@lwdgrfx) spotted more right wing hypocrisy, stupidity, and even found some humor in this eye-popping post at Raw Story.

Birther Christina Katok, of course, an avid Ted Cruz fan, proves once again how so many of these right wing extremists are of very little, if any, brain.

As you probably know by now, Cruz recently released his Canadian birth certificate which proved that he was born in a foreign country (Canada) to an American mother.

But Katok doesn't seem to understand a few basics, as you can see in the video where you can watch her say the following at a Texas tea party rally:

As far as I’m concerned, Canada is not really foreign soil,” she explained, adding that she was more worried about the president’s “strong ties to Kenya.” She noted that Obama had not released his long-form birth certificate until after he was elected.

What if Canadians were brown people who didn't speak English, Birther Christina? Would you make the same claim, as far as you're concerned? What if President Obama's skin was as white as yours?

I'll dispense with further snarky commentary, because Lucian nailed it in two sentences. As he points out so astutely:

"If Canada 'is not really foreign soil' because they're our neighbors, then neither is Mexico. Therefore, we no longer need to worry about deporting Mexican citizens here without papers because hey, what's the problem - they're not foreigners!

Trying to maintain Ted Cruz is eligible for the presidency but President Obama is not? Priceless."
