Frack Water ad snarkage exposes motives behind Gov. Brown's fracking push

FacebookTwitterRedditDiggStumbleUponTumblrLinkedInPinterestEmailShare

what the frack

What the frack, Gov. Jerry Brown? First he's in a panic about the "evil weed", and now he supports the evil deed, as you can see in the following press release. Both issues affect my home state of California, and both are rantworthy.

The good news: My old pal Andy Cobb has put out yet another hilarious video filled with snarkitude that skewers his targets in all kinds of memorable and effective ways. We owe you one, Andy. The bad news: The vile F word won't go away: Frack (scroll).

Frack Water Cologne Ad Exposes Motives Behind Gov. Brown’s Fracking Push

New online video and campaign finance analysis highlight dangers of fracking, influence of Big Oil in California

California Governor Jerry Brown is taking a hit today for his penchant for fracking and dirty energy donations with a new satirical online video launched by Oil Change International (OCI) and comedians Andy Cobb and Mike Damanskis of Heavy Crude Video. The video is the latest escalation of the Big Oil Brown campaign effort sponsored by OCI, pushing for a ban on fracking for oil and gas in the state.

The video parody, entitled “Frack Water,” portrays a Governor Brown look-alike outside a southern California oil field accompanied by a California oil industry representative, in a shot for shot remake of a 2004 Stetson cologne advertisement starring actor Matthew McConaughey:

"In a land plagued by drought, one man stands tall….We won’t tell you what’s in it, but Big Oil Brown’s got it all over him…Jerry Brown’s frackwater. A fragrance that smells like a man…a man who doesn’t give a [bleep] about drought or climate change."

Here is the original McConaughey ad:

Also out today is a new analysis released by Oil Change International that outlines the massive contributions from the oil industry to the Governor’s coffers in recent years. The review shows these contributions have surpassed $2 million since 2006.

The campaign contribution analysis can be found here.

“You can’t buy back your legacy, Governor, even with all that Big Oil cash,” Turnbull said. “California is on the brink of climate catastrophe and fracking up the state will help push it over the edge. Californians deserve better than to be beholden to Big Oil’s desires and befouled by their stench.”

The video and analysis come just over a week ahead of a major mobilization in Sacramento planned for March 15th, where thousands of anti-fracking activists from around the state are expected. More information on the March 15th mobilization can be found at www.dontfrackcalifornia.org.

VIDEO snarkitude: "Exxon has revolutionized the way fuel gets to YOU! We'll pump that s*** right down your driveway."

Chris Hayes covered yet another toxic oil mess in this video: Arkansas pipeline rupture foreshadows devastating environmental impact, but Exxon won’t pay taxes to cleanup fund.

MSNBC:

Three days after an Exxon pipeline in Central Arkansas burst and soaked the town of Mayflower in thousands of barrels of crude oil, the cleanup is ongoing. At last count, 12,000 barrels of tar sands oil and water have been dumped on the small town.

So it goes without saying that my buddy Andy Cobb was all over it. He produces videos o' snarkitude like nobody else. Watch, laugh, enjoy...

"Wherever you're going, we're already there."

Andy did it again. That. Was. Awesome.

Via HeavyCrudeVideo:

America's oil industry is terribly misunderstood. When a lot of people hear "364 pipeline spills in 2012" they think it's a big mess, like a nearly realized advent calendar of crap. What they fail to see is a revolutionary energy distribution system about to achieve NATIONWIDE COVERAGE.

And remember, that's not just gas or oil flowing through the streets of Arkansas--it's dilbit, the thick toxic hydrocarbon stew produced by tarsands. So roam wherever, and take your energy source with you! That s--t is sticky as hell, it's not like you're going to be able to get it off.

Nate Silver: After all votes are finally counted, Pres. Obama likely to extend his lead to 3%-plus

FacebookTwitterRedditDiggStumbleUponTumblrLinkedInPinterestEmailShare

Nate Silver has been mocked, insulted, and slurred by very angry, very humiliated, very small-minded, nasty conservatives, because he was right. The GOP and the truth haven't been getting along too well, and this was no exception. Republicans *coughKARLROVEcough* believed their own polls, they reside in their own bubble, and they've literally ignored facts and figures.

But none of that could change the truth, and none of that has fazed Nate the Great at FiveThirtyEight, who has even more to say. And that "more" includes President Obama likely extending his lead to a healthy three percent.

Here are a few excerpts from Nate's latest post titled "Turnout Steady in Swing States and Down in Others, But Many Votes Remain Uncounted":

Initial accounts of last Tuesday’s presidential election contemplated what seemed to be a significant decline in turnout from 2008. Those reports may have been premature, at least in part. [...]

Even without these votes, turnout in the battleground states over all was generally near its 2008 levels. In contrast, it is down by about 9 percent in the other 40 states, based on ballots counted so far. Some of the shortfall will be made up in the coming days. In California, where most balloting is conducted by mail and where it can take weeks to certify the vote, about 3.4 million fewer votes than in 2008 have been reported so far.

As the rest of the votes come in from California, Mr. Obama could add about 700,000 more votes in his margin against Mr. Romney, assuming that the remaining votes are divided between the candidates in about the same proportions as the ones counted so far.

Those votes could be enough to push Mr. Obama’s margin of victory in the national popular vote, reported at 2.7 percent as of Monday morning, to slightly higher than 3 percent.

And just to rub snark to the GOP wound, here's a treat from my hilarious buddy Andy Cobb:

To the extent that his proclivities are of importance to you please substitute "dudes" for "chicks" in all dialogue: Mr. Silver is gay. But in the popular imagination he's suddenly become a heterosexual superhero--wonky, pragmatic, and able to steer through uncertain times. Suddenly girls wanna do him/men wanna be him. Good for him.

"Drunk Nate Silver" became a Twitter thing recently, which makes perfect sense. People intuitively know prophecy is a gift...and a burden. In the face of such relentless clarity he might well crave some oblivion--if you or I had to deal with that kind of insight we'd probably go straight to the bottle and get messy as Rasmussen.

So if the web wants to superimpose Charles Bukowski on Nate Silver, let it. I would personally rather fantasize that he's a booze-hungry skirt-chasing seer of visions than learn all that fucking math.

And cm'on, if you don't buy his book you're going to have a much harder time pretending you've read it:

Don't be the last person at the party to act like you understand Bayesian processes vis-a-vis free market economics, you're going to look like a real a-hole.

Unfortunately server companies don't accept snickers and knowledge as payment, and we have a big one coming up. Please consider keeping the coffers full of Gatorade and No-Doze in this run down to the big day. Servers, web fixes and stories don't come free, even to such gawdesses as ourselves. We love this, the constant race to find the fun, pertinent info that we think you should know, but we need help every now and then. VIDEO snarkitude: Victims of... Obamacare! Oh noes! Who will hear their cries?

FacebookTwitterRedditDiggStumbleUponTumblrLinkedInPinterestEmailShare

Leave it to my old pal Andy Cobb to be this brilliant.

Who will hear their cries? The Affordable Care Act has already
unleashed a plague on our country: butthurt conservatives, whose
butthurt medical needs are being completely ignored.

The sound, vigorous spanking by--of all people--Justice Roberts, 30 million Americans getting coverage, and because PREEXISTING CONDITIONS ARE IN THE CONSTITUTION OR SOMETHING has resulted in a wave of redness, welts, and soreness.

Judging from symptoms displayed on Facebook, there seems to be no balm, lotion or tincture to soothe their butthurtedness. They can't really move--every other advanced industrial nation has universal access to decent medical care. So that fucking sucks. http://www.stanford.edu/class/e297c/poverty_prejudice/soc_sec/health.htm

But remember, no whining! After getting all that health care LITERALLY SHOVED DOWN YOUR THROAT, that will only cause chafing and irritation.

FacebookTwitterRedditDiggStumbleUponTumblrLinkedInPinterestEmailShare

Our pals at Second City (I lerve me the Andy Cobb, who has participated in my Blunt videos) sent us a video to share with you:

It's hard to deny the power of a unified democratic uprising, and Egypt deserves real elections. And Mubarak needs to get out of the way before some really spectacular cheekbones are endangered. You, sir, have crossed a line America cannot abide.

And if something happens to the Silver Fox, what else have those poor folks at CNN got? Parker/Spitzer? Those people need to eat.

Everybody cool out.
