Osama bin Laden’s son-in-law, who has served as an al Qaeda spokesman, was captured and has been brought to the United States, two administration officials and a federal law enforcement official said today.

Sulaiman Abu Ghaith is being held in New York and will appear in court Friday to face federal charges, the law enforcement official said. A sealed indictment lays out charges against him, the administration officials said.

Abu Ghaith was captured within the past week in Jordan, according to a spokesman for U.S. Rep. Peter King of New York.

“Will appear in court”? Why, that’s positively skeery! Why isn’t he at Gitmo being deprived of due process? *sarcasm*

Al Qaeda Offshoot Offers Camels for President Obama’s Head

Makes you wonder if they’re trying to be humourous or practical. Figure a camel would would be more useful to someone living in some of those areas than U.S. cash would.

The al Qaeda affiliate in Somalia has mocked the new $33 million bounty on its top leaders heads by offering its own bounty for President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton – 10 camels for Obama and 20 chickens for Clinton.

“Anyone who helps the Mujahideen find the whereabouts of Obama and Hillary Clinton will be rewarded with 10 Camels to the information leading to Obama and 10 hens and 10 cocks for Hillary,” said senior Shabaab commander Fuad Mohamed Khalaf in a statement reported on numerous websites.

Earlier this week, the U.S. offered a total of $33 million through the State Department’s Rewards for Justice program for information leading to the capture of seven different Shabaab leaders, including Khalaf.

The U.S. offered $7 million for founder and commander Ahmed Abdi Aw-Mohamed, AKA Godane or Mukhtar Abu Zubeir, five million for Khalaf and three other men, and $3 million apiece for two other leaders.

Appeasement? Really?

President Obama: “Ask Osama bin Laden and the 22 out of 30 top Al Qaeda leaders who have been taken off the field whether I engage in appeasement. Or who ever’s left out there, ask them about that.”

Of course, the Taliban exists in Afghanistan and Pakistan, not Libya.

“The question was too broad… I was a bit fatigued.”

“Do I agree with siding with the opposition? Do I agree with saying that Qadhafi should go? Do I agree that they now have a country where you’ve got Taliban and Al Qaeda that’s going to be part of the government?

He won’t ever become president, but if he did, our national security would apparently depend on the timing of his naps.

Peter King praises Obama for al-Awlaki killing

Holy moly, this gave me a double take.

Rep. Peter King, the Republican chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, had rare praise for President Obama following the “extraordinary victory” of the death of suspected terrorist Anwar al-Awlaki.

“This is an extraordinary victory, a great moment for the United States. Al-Awlaki, has become more dangerous than bin Laden,” King (R-N.Y.) told POLITICO. “Over the last year, he’s become the No. 1 terrorist in the world.”

“The killing of al-Awlaki is a tremendous tribute to President Obama and the men and women of our intelligence community,” King added in a statement Friday.
