For two full days my Twitter stream and TPC Comments under Final Dad Report: To the so, so many of you kind enough to ask and care have been been filled with your compassion and kindness, your often intimate stories, and your wishes, love, and tear-inducing words of comfort.

I am overwhelmed. I cannot thank all of you enough for caring and sharing your own personal experiences, sorrow, wisdom, optimism, advice, and empathy. I’ve read every single message, and even though there is simply no way I can respond individually to all of you, I can offer you this, a heartfelt post brimming over with profound gratitude.

Consider this a huge hug for every single one of you who took the time and emotional energy to send condolences and soothing notes, emails, tweets, IMs, and phone calls.

It feels like I have hundreds of close friends and family right here with me at all hours of the day and night, whenever I need you… whenever we need each other. I don’t know how to express my appreciation strongly enough, but just know you, every one of you, has made a difference.

I’m truly humbled and honored to be surrounded by such kindhearted friends, even though most of us have never met face to face. Please know it’s mutual, that you can count on me the way you’ve let me lean on you.

I wish I could do a better job of communicating how much you’ve helped. All I can do is repeat the same two words:

On my recent trip to Boston (I loved it there, even more than I did the first time), I took many, many pictures with my brand spanking new iPad (which I also love) camera… mainly because I somehow managed to forget my “real” camera. We did a LOT of walking, and as we did a lot of walking, I did a lot of observing.

What is pictured below was one of many amazing things I saw, especially in contrast to the exquisite, serene beauty of the image I snapped above.

More photos will be coming soon, but what was written in chalk on the steps below was one of the two most gripping moments I had in the two days I spent in this wonderful, awe-inspiring city:

The Warm and Fuzzy GOP

Health care reform is dead.  Let’s face it.  The Republicans are trying to establish a system to ensure that no taxpayer money goes to pay for health care for people here illegally.

“So let’s solve that — just not treat them,” said a distinguished southern gentleman member of the House.  ”Let ‘em die in the streets for all we care.  They’re illegals.  They’re not our responsibility.”  A House member saying that?  House of Horrors is more like it.

The GOP also stripped the bill of equal protection by removing an amendment to allow for same sex couples to be treated as family.  Another Republican House member said, “Good, we don’t need any more disease than we already got.”  Seems health care is a big GOP issue… even if their take on it is bigoted, crude and senseless.

The Senate Judiciary committee bill is recommending creation of a 13-year path to citizenship for the 11 million people already here illegally.  Another elected Republican said they chose 13 to appease the Jews in the House — jokingly equating it to “a Bar Mitzvah for illegals.”  This quotable soul wasn’t Rep. Cantor, but you get two more guesses.  You can start by saying “Way to go, Mr. ‘Boo-hoo my eyes out’ Boehner.

Wow, that’s some open minded group you’re leading there.  Slamming and slurring immigrants and Jews at the same time is your party’s solution to the problem?

What, not enough time to talk it over but you have enough time to vote to repeal the Affordable Health Care Act on 36 occasions?  Priorities, Mr. Speaker. And I don’t mean priority tee times at the golf course.

Gotta love the Republican leadership — warm and sensitive, like iced sand paper.

For the past 25 years, David Garber has been serving as the show runner and or writer on some of television’s biggest hits… Saved By The Bell, Power Rangers, 227, Bill Cosby Show and many other network series. Yes, regardless of the earnest civil disobedience of groups and individuals protesting the 4th phase of the Keystone XL Pipeline, the reality is that within a month or two, tar sands oil from Alberta will be mainlining its way to Houston and Port Arthur, Texas.

How can that be, you ask, when President Obama has not yet made an official decision on the Keystone XL Pipeline?

The answer is simple: he has.

When Obama approved what is known as the southern leg of the pipeline the spigot was opened to transport the climate-killing tar sands oil to refineries and ports in Texas – and facilities along the way.  The only issue outstanding is whether Obama will approve a northern branch of the Keystone XL Pipeline that will be more profitable and deliver much more volume than the current stitched together pipeline that is nearing completion.  The southern leg of the pipeline that runs from Cushing, Oklahoma, to Houston and Port Arthur in Texas should be fully constructed, with oil flowing, before Obama might even decide on the northern “express” leg that is a more direct and lucrative option for its owner, TransCanada. [...]

The reality of the nearly finished pipeline dispels the notion that the pending Obama decision about the northern leg of Keystone XL might forestall the ruinous carbon dioxide emissions created by tar sands processing is dismaying.  But it can also be a wake up call that even the most laudable goals to save the planet can become the victim of a diversionary shell game. [...]

What most US citizens don’t know – including most progressives – is that when the southern pipeline segment starts flowing with tar sands oil in a short while, the fuse will have already ignited the bomb.

Yes, it’s time to steal a few more jokes from my father-in-law (F.I.L.). For those of you who might be new here, he used to write for Alan King, Milton Berle and Jonathan Winters, just to name a few. And all those Dean Martin Roasts,  too: Don Rickles, Red Buttons, Phyllis Diller, Sammy Davis, Jr., etc.

A tiny respite from all the frustrating events of the day:

This week marks the 40th anniversary of the Watergate hearings. Back then the administration was spying on reporters and they used the IRS to harass groups they didn’t like. Thank God those days are gone forever.

First it was Benghazi, then the IRS scandal, and now this phone records scandal. What happened to the good old days when all we had to worry about was REP. ANTHONY WEINER showing off his wiener on Facebook?

The OBAMA administration was hit by three scandals in one week. The PRESIDENT called GOV. CHRIS CHRISTIE and asked if a lap-band could be put on the White House.

When it comes to Benghazi they keep looking for the smoking gun and there isn’t any. Where is the smoking gun? What a sad affair, an American not able to find a gun.

It was over 100 degrees in Los Angeles and was I sweating. Now I know how PRESIDENT OBAMA felt this week at a press conference.

It was so hot people in Beverly Hills were actually drinking tap water.

At the Rancho Park golf course, a squirrel was spotted putting Right Guard on his nuts.

O.J. SIMPSON was in court this week trying to overturn his conviction. He knows it’s a long shot, but as he said, “I’ll take a stab at it.”

He’s trying to overturn his conviction of armed robbery and kidnapping. O.J. said, “I’m tired of everyone thinking of me as only a robber and kidnapper. Remember what a great murderer I am.”

The most notable thing to come out of the trial so far is that O.J. has put on a lot of weight. Remember, “If the glove doesn’t fit you must acquit.” The new rhyme is, “If the pants don’t fit you must not sit.”
