Sedition

When in doubt, call in Merriam-Webster for the meaning of a word or term.  Today's word is SEDITION.

Crime of creating a revolt, disturbance, or violence against lawful civil authority with the intent to cause its overthrow or destruction. Because it is limited to organizing and encouraging opposition to government rather than directly participating in its overthrow, sedition is regarded as falling one step short of the more serious crime of treason. In the U.S. the display of a certain flag or the advocacy of a particular movement, such as syndicalism, anarchism, or communism, has periodically been declared seditious.

Reading that definition, I started to wonder about whether or not our good friend and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell wasn't guilty of sedition.

Would even McConnell deny that he's engaged in: organizing and encouraging opposition to government? If them's not fightin' words I don't know what is.

Think about it and McConnell's leadership causing his entire party to vote as a unit against affirming Presidential appointments, working and threatening to shut down the government, causing criminals to walk free because of lack of funding for federal prosecutors, keeping government departments inactive, defunded or without leadership, thus obstructing the ability of the country to work as mandated by law.

Perhaps most telling was when an open mic picked up the minority leader striding down the senate corridor singing to himself what at first sounded like the song, Tradition, from FIDDLER ON THE ROOF.

Fiddler on the Roof

MITCH McCONNELL

Sedition, sedition! Sedition!

Who, day and night, must scramble for obstruction,
Starve a wife and children, say his daily lies?
And who has the right, to hold up the majority,
To completely bring their progress to a halt ?

The Mitch man, the Mitch man! Sedition.
The Mitch man, the Mitch man! Sedition.

Who knows the way to make a proper filibuster
Hold a quiet minority, use a GOP-run House?
Who must raise some hell and run the Senate floor,
So Mitch can read and obfuscate the laws?

The Mich man, the Mitch man! Sedition!
With Boehner, with Boehner. Sedition!

Believe me, hearing his voice, he sings no better than he leads. Take solace in that he may be singing another tune when his primary is over. Could be the love theme from SAYONARA.

As for the Merriam-Webster's definition, I'd like to add a few more people to the list, who are even now, in the act of Sedition; Karl Rove, Dick Cheney, George Bush, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Michelle Rhee, John Boehner, Eric Holder and the list goes on ad infinitum ...
