What I will not write about today

Steaming mad anger

Sometimes I get so frustrated and/or disheartened and/or annoyed by some of the news stories of the day that I can't bring myself to write about them. Here are a few recent reports that made my blood pressure hit the roof. I am avoiding delving into them at length out of concern for my physical and mental health:

See what I mean? So who's up for a couple of Margs or a trough of wine?

  • I am SO right there with you! I don't even know where to start, so this will be disjointed, but at least I can vent here I hope. (Anyway--you started it! 😉 ).

I have been spending less and less time on Twitter and watching cable news, it's so unrelentingly disheartening. On every goddam front, I feel as though we are, if not outright losing, at best holding a finger in the dyke of horrendous RW legislation and dirty tricks. Unconstitutional laws are being passed in several states, and it'll take YEARS for them to be resolved in the Courts. And even then, with this Court, there are no guarantees those laws will be overturned.

But beyond that, what demoralizes me the most is the extent of the willful stupidity of the populace. I'm used to the realization that most people are too busy trying to get by and live their lives to spend more than a glancing recognition of politics. But it's worse than that, because about half the people who are politically active are living in a parallel universe, where basic facts are in dispute. I feel like I live among another species, alien life forms who don't share my culture, my understanding of science or history--or even the basic tenets of mainstream religion. I can easily blame the media for it's failures to inform us, but most of these active Republicans don't even believe the MSM--they read their own "news." I don't see how we can share the same society.

Finally--and let me preface this by saying I deplore people who claim there is no difference between the 2 Parties--finally, I have to say I am beside myself at the pathetic performance of the Dems in the Senate. They will approve Keystone XL, mark my words. They will approve Chained CPI. They opposed assault weapons ban, and a few even oppose background checks. I'm sympathetic to red state Dems, but there are baseline ideals that define what being a Democrat means--they have failed to meet that definition.

I'm overwhelmed by the diosgust I feel about American today.

  • But what about the new mop closet in the capitol in Tennessee...the one that was mistaken by the dumbest among them as a "Muslim foot washing sink". It's all a conspiracy... populate the power seats with the most extraordinarily stupid people...then operate behind the scenes, no one will ever know the difference...just like all the stuff you wrote about today...and every other day...You only have to pay them if they're smart enough to figure it out.
