In case you missed it, Stephen Colbert’s sister, Elizabeth Colbert-Busch, is running as a Democrat in the South Carolina House race… against C-Streeter Mark Sanford whose Appalachian Trail led him straight to political hell. And yes, he’s still with his Argentine “soul mate” and, yes, he managed to avoid criminal charges following an ethics investigation.
Stephen Colbert appeared on CNN with Jake Tapper:
“She’s my sister, and I’m willing to, you know, break the jewel of my own creation to try to do something for her. Like I’m not worried what it would do to me or my show to try to help her as myself, not as my character, and to help her as myself. And if people think that’s not the right thing for me to do, I don’t care, it’s my sister and I’m willing to help her.”
“The former governor of the Appalachian Trail is favored to be the Republican candidate.”
“I will make jokes about him. I said, ‘LuLu, if you do something funny, I’ll make jokes about you!’”
Also, in case you missed it, unlike her brother, who pronounces Colbert like this: Col-Bear, Elizabeth Colbert-Busch pronounces Colbert like this: “Col-burt.”
