VIDEO: Lindsey Graham called out by Milwaukee police chief during Senate hearing on assault weapons ban

Milwaukee police chief Edward Flynn wouldn't let Lindsey Graham get away with pestering him repeatedly with NRA talking points at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing about Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s (D-CA) proposed assault weapons ban.

Lindsey Graham:

...We absolutely do nothing to enforce the laws on the books…

Just for the record, from my point of view, the point of a background check…

How many cases have you made? How many cases have you made?

It doesn’t matter, it’s a paper thing. I want to stop 76,000 people from getting guns illegally. That’s what a background check does. If you think we’re going to do paperwork prosecutions, you’re wrong.

Feinstein found it necessary to scold Graham who then briefly brown-nosed the chief. But he continued to badger Flynn, who had no problem interrupting L'il Linds with his own points.

How many cases have you made for somebody violating the background checks?

"We don’t make those cases. We have priorities. We make gun cases. We make 2,000 gun cases a year, senator, that’s our priority. We’re not in a paper chase. We’re trying to prevent the wrong people from buying guns. That’s why we do background checks. If you think I’m going to do a paper chase, then you think I’m going to misuse my resources."

"We don't chase paper. We chase armed criminals."

Graham said that limited resources for police departments is a reason to bolster gun ownership, arguing that citizens would have to take the law in their own hands and protect themselves. “What this police chief is facing, is what every police chief is facing, less money so you may have to defend yourself,” he explained.

Hmm, who does that remind you of? Ah, got it, this guy: Sheriff’s pro-gun radio ads to be paid by taxpayers. “This has nothing to do with public safety and everything to do with self-promotion.”

sheriff guns protect yourself

  • Graham has shown us where his loyalties lie. He's a corporate shill and should be called out. Cut back on Police, Teachers and Firemen. Then rant about how we need more guns on the street to defend ourselves from criminals and nut jobs. Cut funding for Consulate Security by  Millions and then try to blame the State Department for an attack which could not have been avoided with a handful of security.
It's pitiful and painful to listen to him speak.

Actually Cory if you believe that Jesus was the son of God then you must believe that he had weapons at this disposal much more powerful than any arms cache you can imagine. The thing is Jesus didn't teach violence. When the Romans came for him and Jesus knew he was headed to certain death, he prevented Peter from using his sword. Jesus didn't believe in the "right to bear arms" - he believed in the neccessity of loving even your enemies. Jesus thought that we are all God's children and that there are no "bad guys" only sinners. You don't have to believe that too but if you don't then you are clearly not a Christian no matter how many times you go to Church.

  • Umm Sally... Didn't the bad guys kill Jesus?!

  • Yes, Lindsey Graham, R (Closet) thinks that "reality" is the future underfunding of police departments.  We should just get used to it, right? How about.......take away the damn corporate welfare payoffs/refunds and see how many police departments we could fund with that!  The stupidity of the GOP nowadays is just stunning.

The NRA has convinced these sheep that only guns can save them. Oh my..I thought they were all Christians and followed Jesus? Jesus didn't have a gun. Or a knife. Or even a whip. He used his intellect. Wait. I just answered my own question.
Remember that old Smokey the Bear slogan "Only YOU can prevent forest fires!"? I think the NRA believes that "Only YOU can save yourself..Buy more guns so we get a cut!" Somehow I never envisioned my grandkids growing up in Dodge City.
