This news alert popped up on my phone:

Jared Lee Loughner gets 6 life terms and 140 consecutive years for Giffords shootings. @TucsonNewsNow

The next alert I got was that the judge added a seventh life sentence.

A Fox email alert reports "Jared Lee Loughner, 24, sentenced to life in prison without parole after pleading guilty to January 2011 attack that left six people dead and others wounded, including former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords."

Prior to getting those alerts, this came in from the AP:

Former astronaut Mark Kelly spoke directly to Jared Loughner, saying he changed his wife's life forever but couldn't dent her spirit.

It was the first time Giffords came face-to-face with Loughner. She did not speak.

Nothing will make up for what happened to Gabrielle Giffords and any of the others whose lives were either ended or forever affected by that horrific shooting rampage. Nothing.

But at least this chapter is closed.

I don't believe in the death penalty so I'm glad that he is in jail and won't get out.
