Romney campaign gave bonuses to top staff after convention

This guy ran a company? More than one, and well? SMH.

Mitt Romney’s campaign handed out more than $200,000 in bonuses last month to senior staffers, according to new disclosure records filed Thursday.

Richard Beeson, Romney’s national political director, received a $37,500 payment on Aug. 31 in addition to his salary, according to records filed with the Federal Election Commission.

In addition, records show at least six other top staffers each received $25,000 bonuses on the same date: campaign manager Matt Rhoades, general counsel Kathryn Biber, policy advisor Lanhee Chen, communications director Gail Gitcho, digital director Zach Moffatt and advisor Gabriel Schoenfeld. Two other employees received $10,000 bonuses.

A Romney spokeswoman did not respond to requests for comment on the payments Thursday.

You’re right, it will be interesting to watch how this unfolds.  In a departure from my usual protocol of not dancing on someone’s grave, I’m having the time of my life watching this unfold!  That said, I also consider it tragic that in a democracy that demands quality candidates, that we don’t have that, even if it would be a more difficult challenge for “my guy”, I still think it’s essential, and problematic that we are at a point in our history where we can’t really believe in the veracity of our candidates, even in the face of the ever-present video-in-your-face-truth-machine.

BTW, candidates, following a defeat can do much with their campaign funds, some choose charities, but I suspect that after paying off campaign debts (hmmm…a $2 million loan was taken out by the campaign recently – that’s now a debt that needs to be repaid!!!),  the money can be filtered off to assist other campaigns with their debts, etc.  Prior to 1980 that money could have been taken home by RMoney!!!  Glad that’s not happening anymore:)

Seriously, that $2 million loan needs to be looked into….

Yes you are correct on that . It will be interesting to see if the payouts continue. I am not sure what happens to the money Romney holds in his own campaign donation fund after the election.

It will be interesting if his large donors continue to send money for his campaign or if they will move to supporting Senate and House contests. After mid October these people will need to either go all in for Mitt’s usual bombing campaign or  admit defeat try and save the House and capture the Senate.

It would take significantly more than a $37, 500 bonus to not write a tell-all book!

Or he took the bonus and ran.

Sooo — THAT’S the reason Tim “Mr. Excitement” Pawlenty quit . . .

    . . . he must not have gotten his bonus . . .

CEOs have been known to make payments or change compensation before a bankruptcy. Perhaps Mitt is just giving money to his buddies, hoping that they will not need to write “tell all” books after the election.
