Rick Santorum dropped out of the race because his campaign "basically raised almost no money."

Everyone was buzzing about Rick Santorum's young daughter, who, sadly, was hospitalized, as being the cause of his leaving the presidential race. But it turns out that wasn't the main reason at all. His campaign was broke, per the L.A. Times:

Rick Santorum said Thursday that he ended his presidential bid because he ran out of money, his campaign was in debt and he would have been unable to air any advertising in Pennsylvania.

As Ricky told Family Research Council President Tony Perkins, his campaign organization had been “just burning through cash” and donations slowed to a “trickle."

“I’ll be honest with you, Tony, in the last week after Wisconsin, we basically raised almost no money,” Santorum said. “We had solicitations going out and people were just emailing back saying the race was over.... “We were looking at probably not being able to spend a penny on advertising.”

Meanwhile, Willard the Etch A Sketch "Car Elevator" Romney was spending his millions on all kinds of nasty TV ads. Who says money can't buy elections?

Santorum said he'd spend his time working on getting conservatives elected to Congress and state legislatures. And if Democrats are smart, they'll be spending their time and money on more Progressives, because we need them to win local, state, and of course, national races.

If only we had as many billionaire sugar daddies as the party of Citizens United does.

C'mon people, we're going to give away the first t shirt tonight, so get your donation in to be in the running!

Donate to The Political Carnival using WePay

Now, if you’ll bear with us, we’re having a very necessary fundraiser; please help TPC continue to do what we do:

If we are one thing here at TPC, it’s being up front. We need to raise funds so we don’t have to worry about expenses for the next three months, both for site upkeep and our own mounting bills.

You can donate at any time by using the PayPal donate buttons in the sidebar (now with requested WePay!), or if you need a snail mail addy, feel free to email thepolicalcarnival@gmail.com.

In addition, if anyone wants to sponsor us for three months with an ad in the sidebar, please email Paddy. Since it’s an election year, any ad will be getting increased views.

BONUS! We’re doing something special this time around and giving away three of our brand spankin’ new TPC t-shirts to random donors! We’ll draw names out of the proverbial hat and let you know once the fundraiser is over. (You can’t even buy these yet.)

So, to be the first IN THE WORLD to sport your Political Carnival t-shirt, drop a little coinage in the kitty!

Remember, without donations, we have no Political Carnival. We have no way to fight for you, for our principles, or just to make you laugh from time to time.

Please never forget that we truly appreciate you guys with or without the donations. Every single day.
