Willard Romney may call himself the “son of Detroit,” but when he shows up there today, he won’t exactly get a rousing welcome.

See what happens when you write an op-ed titled, “Let Detroit Go Bankrupt”?

Via USNews:

The United Auto Workers union, a big Democratic donor, will protest Romney’s appearance by orchestrating a grand display of American-made cars that spell out “Let Detroit Go Bankrupt.” [...]

Michiganders won’t forget how, in their hour of need, he turned his back on an iconic American industry, the city of Detroit, the state of Michigan and millions of American jobs,” UAW wrote in a note to protestors.

Don’t mess with the UAW, and don’t diss the success of the auto industry, genius.

Then again, shooting himself in the foot is the one thing at which Willard excels.

“Willard Romney may call himself the ‘son of Detroit’ . . .”

. . . but Detroit will likely call him the son of something else . . .

I’m sorry, but he never really got to claim to be the “hometown boy” to begin with. He abandoned Detroit; Detroit abandons him. Fair is fair.
