Turkey responds angrily to Rick Perry’s debate remarks

I agree with Akyol.

The debate that the Republican candidate Rick Perry attended on American Fox TV turned into a scandal that contained very ugly statements about Turkey,” announced TRT state television.

“Rick Perry: what an idiot,” tweeted Mustafa Akyol, a columnist with the English-language Hurriyet Daily news.

Perry’s remarks came on the same day a Turkish foreign ministry spokesman announced that a new NATO radar station, manned by Turkish and American military personnel, went online this month in the Turkish province of Malatya. The radar station is part of a controversial, U.S.-led missile defense shield that both Russia and Iran have publicly opposed.

For more than 50 years, Turkey has been the only Muslim member of the NATO military alliance.

I’m a retired social studies teacher, and it continues to amaze me how little leaders of the GOP and their followers know about foreign nations.  It is also amazing that they have no idea how their words and actions affect U.S. relations with other nations and that they simply don’t care.  Insult and attack the world seems to be their mindset.  They never seem to think about retaliation—that one day these nations may join together in opposition to their fear and war mongering and decide to actually take decisive steps to put an end to it.

This association of a perjorative; Hadji in Americans minds unconsciously applies an

“all of those people” mentality that has good people afraid of Crazy Iranians getting nukes, or the mythical Turk-Islamic terrorist.
They all look the same, worship Allah, and hate Amurrica, why not just nuke them all(a real sentiment, sadly) back to the glass age?

This is an unconscious prejudice, the sooner examples like Perry can expose us for our brainwashing, the sooner we can recognize it and maybe change our perspective.

If I were a Texan, I would be pretty embarrassed that this guy has been your governor for as long as he has.
