Hi Rachel.  Until the Afghanistan War is over, there should be no parade.  Many of the same military who fought in Iraq are being re-deployed to Afghanistan.  Just as World War II had no parades until well after both theatres of operation
were ended.  And if there is a parade somwhere down the road, Viet Nam Vets, who were so villified but fought  just as loyally as the Korean Vets and todays Iraq/Afghanistan military, need to be recognized and cared for.  I have been so heart broken when seeing the way they were treated after having been drafted into an unnecessary war.  I’ve seen the men and women of the Vietnam war thrust out to care for themselves with no help from the government which drafted them.  Those who protested that war, and those who left in protest, succeeded in the ending of the draft. Congratulations Vets and protesters.

I don’t think a ticker tape parade would be appropriate. The Iraq war has been marred by way too much scandal starting with the Aubu Grabe (sp?) debacle and numerous other related/similar events.  I think Pres. O handled it well.  Quietly with a nice return ceremony, speech.  With as a large of death toll of both American soldiers and Iraqi civilians . . . . The U.S. already has PR problems around the world.  A ticker tape parade would be problematic at best.
