What’s today? Thursday? It doesn’t matter, because every day is block day in GOPville! Why, here’s some blockitude now!
The first involves the much-discussed payroll tax cuts, and true to their hypocritical little selves, the Republicans filibustered their extension, which is curious because they’ve never met a tax cut they didn’t like. Until President Obama asked for one.
Middle and low income Americans, fasten your seat belts, because you’re in for an even bumpier ride.
The final vote tally was 50-48.
But wait! There’s more! Via Roll Call:
Senate Republicans made good on their threat to block President Barack Obama’s nominee to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau today if changes are not made to the way the agency is designed to operate.
The nomination of Richard Cordray was blocked on a 53-45 vote, short of the 60 votes needed to beat back a filibuster. [...]
It’s unclear if Obama will be given an opportunity to recess appoint Cordray. This year, Republicans have not allowed the Senate to adjourn in order to guard against the possibility of recess appointments.
Regulating the very corporations and financial entities who got this country into the financial mess it’s in does not appeal to the GOP. Oversight is icky! It’s more important to let them hoard their trillions without hiring desperate, unemployed Americans, and continue to line the pockets of supportive Congress members.
But wait! There’s still more! 45 GOP Senators Filibustering Consumer Protection Nominee Have Received Millions From Wall Street This Year.
Didn’t I just allude to that? Yes, yes I did.
