Gov. Sam Brownback to teen: "My staff over-reacted to this tweet and for that I apologize."

As Paddy posted, the teen tweeter who expressed an opinion about Kansas Gov. Brownback's suckitude wouldn’t apologize, and for good reason. As you may recall, Brownback’s office saw her tweet, and she was called into the principal’s office and unconstitutionally ordered to apologize. Yes, she should have been called in... to be congratulated for knowing enough about Brownback to make such a comment, and for understanding her rights.

But guess who's avoiding detention now by issuing a badly needed apology? Nope, not Emma Sullivan. Via CJOnline (The Topeka Capital-Journal):

Gov. Sam Brownback issued a statement Monday apologizing for his office's reaction to a Kansas high school senior's disparaging tweet about the Republican after a visit to the Statehouse. [...]

"My staff over-reacted to this tweet and for that I apologize," Brownback said. "Freedom of speech is among our most treasured freedoms."

How nice of him to notice. Good to know he's become aware of the U.S. Constitution.

I find it very interesting that when the governor's office called the school, the principal acted immediately to do the governor's bidding without investigating the issue.  What a way to suck up to someone because of his/her status.  This tells me that neither the principal, Brownback, nor his aides are really concerned about the Constitution and/or freedom of speech.  Their main goal is using propaganda, faux outrage, and punishment to retain and exercise power over the citizens of Kansas.  If a governor really believed in the Constitution and freedom of  speech, he/she wouldn't have aides trolling Twitter and/or Facebook for comments about him/her and pursuing citizens whose comments they don't like.  IMO, this makes the politician look petty, weak, and spiteful.  This also makes Brownback's apology 100% BullStank because, after having his pettiness exposed for all to see, the apology is for CYA purposes only.

  • It makes me nervous when high elected GOP Officials with a habit of plundering call the 1st Amendment a treasure.

Now that you seem to be thinkin' Sam, how about these atrocious intrusions on women's reproductive rights?

Does the "State of Kansas" own a womans womb?

  • Apparently this Brownback staffer has a singular purpose: to monitor social websites for the governor.

Why aren't we making this person's life very difficult?  You know...... like EVERYBODY tweeting something about Brownback until he gives up the ghost about this person's job?
