Report: Number of poor hit record 46 million in 2010

The President couldn’t have inherited a more f’d up country if the R’s had arranged it.

(Reuters) – The poverty rate in the United States climbed to 15.1 percent last year as the number of impoverished Americans swelled to a record 46.2 million, the U.S. government said on Tuesday.

In a report that underscores the daunting economic challenges facing President Barack Obama and Congress, the Census Bureau said median income fell 2.3 percent from 2009 to 2010 while the number of Americans without health insurance hovered near the 50 million mark.

What’s even more disheartening than hearing these statistics is that the republicans are unwilling to do anything – ANYTHING – constructive to improve the situation. Their (in)actions are despicable, and you have to wonder if people are just so bitter in general that they refuse to see the reality – the republicans cynicism is glaring. I’m just disgusted.
