VIDEO- Thom Hartmann: Destroying the Postal Service - another Manufactured Crisis

As Thom Hartmann said this morning on the Radio Machine, Darrell Issa is "Wisconsining" the postal service.

:

The United States Post Office is on the verge of shutting down. According to the New York Times - the Post Office is quickly running out of cash and may be forced to shut down this winter.

While the media story line is that the Post Office is dealing with the problem of trying to remain profitable in a world of decreasing paper mail - the real cause is actually something much, much different. Consider that this year - like every year since 2006 - the Post Office is legally required to make a $5 billion annual contribution to a retirement account to pay for future retirees who aren't even born yet.

For more on this Thom Hartmann is joined by Chuck Zlatkin - Legislative and Political Director of the New York Metro Area Postal Union.

How do you hate the Post Office? It's the post office the one part of government that has ALWAYS WORKED. Yes there are other companies that will give you multiple shipping times, with supposedly better guarantees and more services. But it's the post office, it gets there, in the amount of time they say it will, all over the country. You can't buy a PO box at UPS(yes you can buy it at other mail centers, but not at the main UPS office, Fedex either) and regardless of letter size you have to pay UPS' letter envelope rate, post office buy a stamp. Plus the post office delivers on SATURDAY's no extra charge, ask UPS and FedEx to do that.

236 years, they were here at the start, exactly who in their right mind wants to end a tradition like that. Damn I just answered my own question "right mind" if anything Conservatives and Teadiots have shown that they are anything but sane or intelligent

Now, Darrell -- are you trying to eliminate the USPS?

If so, you're violating the US Constitution:

"[The Congress shall have the power] To establish Post Offices and post Roads,"

    -- US Constitution, Article I, Section 8, Clause 7

You wingers really oughta READ the constitution you so claim to love sometime . . .
