The chart above — which we have enhanced for readability based on a chart created by the Maddow show — shows the approval ratings of the 24 most familiar, nationally known political groups and personalities, Campbell and Putnam referred to in the New York Times.

In the chart, the tea party is the least popular, ranked at 24, just under Sarah Palin.

Yet Rick Perry is the current GOP presidential frontrunner when he should rank 25th.
